So, I have never really done challenge rifts before. I checked some video now on how you should do the challenge rift when season starts so you get rewards where you can then craft level 70 gear and use that with the altar.
However, I just test-ran a challenge rift… because I never really do them. My friend now told me that I now cant run another until next week? And I am like… wtf?
This really pissed me off… because I couldn’t care less about the challenge rift reward in non-seasonal. I though you had a fresh seasonal opportunity. But apparently not?
So, is there any way, you think, to get this reset? Because now I am pretty annoyed that this was not clear…
Nope.
Challenge Rifts are reset weekly, around midday (Pacific Time) on Mondays.
That’s why the people that make Challenge Rift guides have thumbnails like this for the challenges that are on the Monday immediately prior to a season starting…
The guide video has a pinned comment of…
Wait until the Season starts on Friday before completing!
And the very first thing he says in the video is…
This is the one for the start of the season. So, whatever you do, do not complete this challenge rift until after the season starts on Friday.
So, you’re going to have to start your season on Friday the old-fashioned way, i.e. without the contents of a challenge rift cache to help with the 1-70 levelling process and contributing to the Altar. You’ll need to wait for next Monday’s Challenge Rift to obtain a cache for the Altar’s sacrifice.

I would argue its a big design failure by Blizzard if you can somehow mess up your Season start even before the Season begins…
Which is exactly what this is…
Its not the job of random youtubers to inform about this. Its blizzard themselves. This was not clear to me at all. But this shouldn’t even be an issue in the first place…
You can argue, but, it’s how the game was designed.
Random or not, you don’t need to watch a video to clear a Challenge rift.
You do realise that we used to do seasons before Challenge Rifts even existed and we managed just fine without the materials / gold head-start it gave. I’m sure you’ll cope from Friday to Monday until the next cache becomes available.
