The application encountered an unexpected error

Diablo 3 constantly crashes during any game play (solo play or multi player, does not matter) usually with an error such as: The application encountered an unexpected error A0830D64-5B0F-43DF-8B30-3D94A1988FD6

I have an excel spreadsheet with 48 other messages with the dates when the crash occurred.

so far I have attempted the following:

  1. uninstalled game and battle.net from F drive and reinstalled onto C drive
  2. repair game files from bnet launcher
  3. deleted D3Prefs.txt from \documents\Diablo III
  4. Ran game in 32 bit mode
  5. set windows desktop background to a static image
  6. tested in a new user account
  7. verified all drivers are up to date

I have been playing since the game was released and never had any issues with my old PC. The new PC hardware would not support windows 7 so I was forced to use windows 10. That appears to be where the problem is as I never had any issues on the windows 7 machine.

system specs are:

Gigabyte aorus z370 gaming 7 MOBO
Intel i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60 GHz
16 GB Viper steel series DDR4 RAM @ 3600 MHz
MSI GeForce GTX 970 gaming 4G
WD 1 TB SSD

anyone have any other ideas? thanks in advance!

I would try the steps here - Deleting Battle.net Files - Blizzard Support

Also you may wish to temporary disable any security software and then try playing the game, if crashing stops then that software was the cause and you may need to add exceptions to it for D3 and the Launcher.

Also please make sure you have all Windows updates installed.

Thanks for the reply!

I went ahead and followed the steps in https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/34719

  • removed the battle.net folder > relaunched the game launcher and choose to locate the game and allowed updates
  • verified windows 10 up to date
  • I also verified both Diablo 3 and Battle.net are allowed through firewall and added diablo 3 & battle.net folders to windows defender exclusion list

unfortunatly I am still getting these crash reports: The application encountered an unexpected error 5A66FD5C-1A9D-4420-821E-C6ED6CC635F3

would there be anything else I could try? thanks again

Okay first things here make sure you install the latest NVIDIA drivers: GeForce Game Ready Driver | 446.14 | Windows 10 64-bit | NVIDIA

And make sure your monitor is plugged into the GPU and not the Motherboard, as that could be why your intel graphics driver is causing the crash.

If the issue persists, please upload your system files to pastebin.com and reply with the links to the files using the preformatted text option to encapsulate the links.
