Seems like a win/win situation if people where allowed to bring eternal characters to play on seasonal content. Those that want to start from scratch can do so if they please. You’d get a lot more people playing if they weren’t forced to reset every season.
As an eternal player, this would be awesome to be able to use season buffs and not have to grind everything again. It shouldn’t make any difference allowing this, in fact an incentive for a lot of people I would think.
For those concerned about leaderboards then make it if you’ve imported a character you can’t compete for leader boards, simple solution. I don’t think anyone that plays eternal cares about that, it’s more about not having to go through the painful grind of leveling not only to 100 but also the glyphs and not to mention Duriel. I don’t see how anyone will want to have to do thousands of Duriel runs every 3 months to get their Ubers.
The game is not made alt friendly another reason it would be nice to be able to use the characters we have and not be forced every time to do dumb boring chores
No you can’t have your eternal character in season
Season is about starting from lvl 1 and progress your character with new stuff and new seasonal mechanic
You will understand this when leaderboards are added
you can go into season with your 100lvl character vs people starts from lvl 1
cause it’s unfair
Season is everybody start fresh and test yourself how far can you go with your new character on leaderboard
that’s how it works for almost a DECADE in games like POE/d3 even d2 has leaderboards and you start fresh from lvl 1 when ladder resets if i’m not mistaken
A selling point of seasons is a fresh start.
Sorry OP, but what you find troublesome, is the whole point of the season.
It has existed for 7+ years, it wont go away. You either accept it, or you dont play, that is your only 2 options.
why only those 2 options? why not the option to upload your existing char… seasons works fine in immortal with no fresh start… we dont go ladders and stupid shits if we didnt have a seasonal characters… simple… i also dont play seasonal bc i worked on my char i like to play with it… i dislike farming again same stuff all over…
The strange thing to me is that they’re making content only for seasons.
Vampire season, then arcane robot season.
People who like to have permanent characters miss out then. They never got to play around with the vampire stuff.
Eventually the game will change on eternal too from the data gathered on seasons. Eternal will only get solid changes. So seasons is a testing ground and now we’re testing the merc. Before that we were testing complementary character powers.
Thing is that people like to play the content. But not all like to start over. For some it’s a considerable journey to 100 and gathering all the items past that too.
I think it’s a mistake to make seasons like this but I understand the idea.
To me it’s enjoyable to start over. The journey is the destination. Once all things have been gathered it’s over. New run is best. Can’t have that without a wipe.
In the beginning it’s all fresh and I’m looking forward to that.
as I mentioned, for those that care about leaderboards, just exclude character’s that where uploaded. Read the forums how no one is wanting to do duriel again, it has the largest discussion right now, starting from scratch should be optional to those who have endless hours to do so. But you can have a win/win situation letting casuals also be able to enjoy new content without forcing to reset for 3 months of play.
A good idea would be to bring the past season to the eternal world (naturally without rewards).
Or without making Blizzard lose money, activate with the premium both the rewards of the new season and the past season in the eternal world (always without rewards).
I can say with certainty that the leveling in the game in the eternal world is extremely slow and boring, excluding the story line, so an update of this type would improve the number of players and eliminate boredom in the eternal world.
I myself have a barbarian at level 55 in the eternal world, + a sorcerer at level 100 in season 2. In the season 3 i’m going to level the druid, of course I’d like to level the barbarian too, but not in the eternal world, boring!!
I like the idea to roll past seasons to eternal.
Don’t have to have all rewards, just a flavor.
Problem then, as the guy above illustrates, is that people like permanency; which was perhaps the reason they chose to play on eternal.
Now problem as I see it is that there’s nothing to do with permanency. The game is finite. There’s nothing to explore beyond a certain limit. You already have the gear and you’ve tried the ideas so you’re done. That’s when seasons refreshes you with a reset. Should’ve been worked into the game more naturally but we’re not there yet.
It’s also like: Wait, are you “working” the game? Why are you doing that?
You play for a long time and get stuff. Are you playing to get that stuff? Why? So you can play? Isn’t that stupid if anything is. It sure is stupid design: Play so you can play.
If I don’t like the game as it runs base, it’s not a game for me.
Simple solution.
If you want to be on the ladder, you start at level 1.
If you don’t care about the ladder, you can play your existing character.
To avoid boosting or cheating, existing characters can not interact with Ladder characters.
If they could program something like that, then the inventory issues would not still exist…
I’m wondering what the difference between seasons and eternal is if we play seasons with eternal characters? A choice to not participate in content?
Seasons doesn’t come with a drawback other than having to start over. The point to that is economy but also the general fresh start it means.
If you let eternal characters play seasons they’re developed and wealthy. It’s not really, in my opinion, about the fairness of it but the fun of trade and the comparison too. Like you see a guy and inspect what he got, thinking what you got. If there’s eternal characters this comparison doesn’t hold. But the comparing of gear is the lesser item of interest, it’s mostly about the trading. The trade game would be ruined from eternal.
But let’s get back to my initial question: What is the difference between seasons and eternal if eternal characters can enter seasons?
The way I see it eternal is supposed to grow slowly from solid changes to the game, gradually developing, while seasons is there as a testing ground for whatever concept they’re thinking of and want to try in practice. It’s also there to give a reason to make a fresh start and ladders will be there for those who like to start over in rapid succession.
We haven’t seen changes to eternal to make it interesting yet. Eternal should be that long term acquisition of items but the problem is that there’s nothing interesting to do long term in Diablo 4. There’s no interesting bosses and there’s no interesting goals. There’s hardly any interesting gameplay even, to be harsh.
Eternal players get to see seasons as the only game mode that gets attention and content because, in my belief, eternal is meant to grow slowly as they try and solve the issues that the permanence bring.
I recognise that as unfair and problematic but I also am troubled seeing the solution. Making eternal seasons isn’t the solution, all it does is break season trade and the incentive to start fresh while at the same time not dealing with the problems eternal has.
It’s a lose lose.
No NO, and NO! That is such bad idea and season lose its potential
