Blizzard please listen, TAA and Motion blur is putting player's health at risk

Hello,

My name is Eliott

I’m not the typical guy that comes whining on forums every 2 hours but I’m facing an issue that is severe enough for me to open this thread

Blizzard please listen : currently, with forced TAA and motion blur, your game is making people physically sick, which is unacceptable and dangerous. You absolutely need to take action to ensure the safety of players

It has been maybe 4 to 5 days since I started playing Diablo 4. Not that crazy game time, like maybe 3 or 4 hours a day, in multiple split sessions

And so, for the last 4 to 5 days, my eyes were totally unable to recover properly at night and my vision got completly blurry in the distance to the point that yesterday, I got worried when trying to drive home ; man this is crazy

Did you guys actually tested your AA settings with motion-sickness test players ? Do you guys even cared ?

I never, never, never experienced something like this with a game, it’s crazy. I played Diablo 3 for 15 seasons, for hundreds of hours. Never got any problem

I also tried any DLSS/DLAA based tips and tricks to counter the TAA effect, nothing worked. I tried to tweak the resolution, FPS settings, Accessibility settings, Distorsion. Nothing worked.

I just cannot play this game without putting my own health at risk, that is unacceptable

But, I mean, the fact that you purposely choosed to not implement a way to turn off TAA and motion blur is making me wonder what the hell went wrong in the game dev

I spent a lot of time looking at Reddit thread that are all saying the same thing from “The background is blurry I don’t like it” to “I can’t play more than 30 minutes elseway I’m getting headaches, eye strain and so” and “My vision is blurry since I started playing this game”

You definitely cannot let that happen. So please Blizzard, listen, please CM here listen too and carry my message to the devs : TAA and Motion blur is putting player’s health at risk

You guys need to do something about it

On my side, as for multiple players, I have to stop playing because it is literally endangering my vision which is the most precious thing in life.

Thanks for reading me

I 100% agree. The blurryness while moving ruins my eyes and I have no doubt that I can’t keep playing like this without risking my vision. I just don’t remember if it was this bad in the beta or just since release…

I would appreciate some changes.

It should not be putting lives at risk, if this is affecting you, and you are aware of it, for time time being you simply should not be playing the game, or refunding it.

“This is a problem but I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing and if I crash my car or choke being sick it’s someone else’s fault I cant control my gaming addiction” is what I’m hearing here, it simply wont fly.

On another note, I don’t experience ANY of motion blur? any that I notice anyway.

You should change the title to “My Gaming Addiction is Putting My Life @ Risk”

I’m sorry but i really wonder how you can play any game using TAA if you are that sensitive to blurry images.

What framerate are you playing at? 90 (preferably 120+) FPS and above make a huge difference when it comes to blur in motion.

Complete agree, ive had to quit playing it all together. This only happens with diablo 4 and it is indeed making me unreasonably sick. its a shame because i was enjoying the game but its not even close to worth the pain.

Cannot reproduce, I don’t have any blur, motion sickness or whatever, zero adverse effects, thank you.

I have the same issue. Please give us the option to turn these effects off.

Tried to refund but couldn’t because I was 4 hours in. 1 hour of which was spent idling looking for a fix. These things are an option in other games for a reason. This isn’t okay for a full priced AAA game from Blizzard.

From my understanding Blizzard are on the more forgiving side regarding refunds if there is a valid reason. If you have only tried the automated process then try opening a ticket to speak with a representative directly.

I agree it should be in the game, but it’s not, along with a plethora of other graphical enhancements and features they said would be in the game and never made the launch. They were clearly in a rush to meet the deadline, and I’ve said it more than once, they have released a minimal viable product knowing with the model they have chosen they can build on it over the next 10 years and act like its nothing.

100% agree, I stop playing day 4 because my eyes started to hurt but I didn’t know why until I saw the trees blur when moving the character.
I can’t play until I find a solution.

This is pure TAA madness, and while this is pretty common issue with many games, these other games do have an option to disable it.

We payed a lot of money for a “premium” game, but Blizzard has intergrated TAA into the game, with no option to turn it off. They just don’t care.

It has made the game such a blurry mess and really unplayable.
This is unacceptable, and i agree 100% that is an eyes/health concern. It made me feel dizzy after just a couple of minutes of playing and my eyes hurt.
If Blizzard doesn’t provide an option to disable TAA, i’m done with the game. Gaming is nice, but nothing is more important than your health, and Blizzard doesn’t seem to respect that.

Oh. I thought it was just me that was feeling the blurriness. My friends haven’t mentioned this at all.

I was actually digging into the settings last night to try and figure out how to turn it off.

Glad I’m not the only one.

I’ve put many hours into the game. It was causing minor headaches and eyestrain. I was dealing with it. Note, I’ve changed all the settings I could to reduce, flashing, render type for motion, etc.
Since the new season patch dropped, I’ve been playing Necro. I’m not sure if it’s the patch, class, or both but the game gave me a debilitating migraine with vertigo for two solid days.
Once I felt a bit better, I tried the game again and felt the same motion sickness headache start to return within 20min.
I’m going to have to shelf the game until they address the motion issues in the code.
It’s a shame because I really enjoy the game, but it is not worth the physical pain it’s causing me.

I also had that problem I fixed it with turning on DLSS “Balanced” locked the game to 60 fps, I have to that sadly cuz my cpu is old AF :stuck_out_tongue: and then moved the slider to 60 in “Sharpen Image” and then for me at least the motion blur was gone. Sadly I dunno what you can do with a AMD gfx card. Using a 2060 myself.
