D4 Update CPU BBQ (pushes CPU over TJMax)

often when D4 updates it pushes the CPU so extreme that it goes over TJMax,

I have a Water-cooled 7950x3D, with TJMax of 89 Degrees, my idle is 48 degrees and while gaming i rarely reach 70 degrees, however when Diablo 4 Updates, it happens often that it reaches 92+ degrees (I shut down battlenet launcher after a bit when it keeps the temps).

the only solution for now is to uninstall the game and just install it new, then the temperature stays around 53 Degrees.

So I would prefer to not BBQ my CPU just to update Diablo 4, especially since the process of installing it works perfectly fine.

PS.: also download speed is higher when installing over updating, but brings nothing when i have to download close to 100 GB every time

You don’t BBQ your CPU, the X3Ds are built to run at 90°s under high load.
This is normal because of the extra cache on top.

Here’s a quote from the AMD Ryzen Blog:

95 degrees is safe, targeted, and ideal for a multi-threaded workload

So remember:

  • 95 degrees Celsius is an absolutely safe temperature for Ryzen 7000 series processors to live in over the lifetime of the product
  • 95 degrees Celsius is where these intelligent processors target when achieving maximum multithreaded performance
  • Better coolers mean better performance, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get a great experience from your last-gen air cooler
  • Do not confuse measured temperature with the heat produced by the CPU, because heat is a pure function of power draw

We hope this helps you better understand the behaviors and settings on your Ryzen 7000 Series processor. Thanks for your interest in AMD Ryzen!

Hey, the 95 Degrees is for non 3D Cache CPUs, 3D Cache CPUs is 89 Degrees

On the Official AMD Product page of the 7950X3D:

Max. Operating Temperature (Tjmax)
89°C

You need not worry as long as your CPU is not permanently running at above 90°.
X3D chips are known to get hot but intentionally on AMDs part to get the max out of the clockspeeds.
The CPU usually only gets that hot in games when it’s maxed out on all cores by compiling shaders or when you patch or install.

hey  , please don’t misunderstand me, and maybe I should have written less lazy and more accurate in the beginning.

I know all of this and you are right in a general sense, I just want to put awareness on a potential issue.

My CPU reaches these temps despite the fact that it is running in eco mode and has a strong LianLi Galahad II 360 water-cooling AIO with Therma-Grizzly kryonaut extreme thermal paste , and for smaller updates that pushes the CPU for a short term over 90 its not a problem in thermal aspect, however what will happen if the update contains a hole expansion? and we speak instead of a longer duration?

Since no other Game or Productivity work is pushing the CPU to those temps and even the standard installation keeps the temperatures normal it shows me that there is an underlining problem that creates this phenomenon.

over all I am not worried for myself since I know how to handle my system, but compare to us there are less knowledgeable Gamers, and the problem should be at least investigated to avoid possible future issues.
