Diablo 4 crashes my internet connection

I can play the game for a couple minutes but then my whole ethernet connection crashes and the game closes itself. The router shows a “disconnected” light and a minute later everything goes back to normal. It happened every time I opened the game, maybe 4 times in a row. When browsing o watching Netflix I didn’t experience any issues.

It’s been happening since the Monday 5 patch. Haven’t tried again today. It worked fine during the weekend. Nothing weird on the router logs other than internet down messages.

My GF has the exact same issue here.
No solution found yet :-/
She can’t play at all, getting disconnected every few minute. And her whole internet connection crashes too. It’s the only game where this happens.
Strangest thing is that it worked fine during Betas. Nothing was changed on her PC between Betas and release. No program installed

What we tried :

  • Completely reinstalling both Battle.net and Diablo IV with fresh installs ( removing every battlenet / Blizzard folder everywhere )
  • Rebooting multiple time her internet box
  • Flushing DNS
  • Switching off power management settings that could “disable” the network card ( under network settings )
  • Optimizing overall power management settings ( she had some basics settings like processor min load at 5%, etc )
  • Tried removing some in game options, like lowering all graphisms and disabling cross-network settings
  • Updating NVIDIA drivers to latests
  • Updating Windows 10 with latests updates
  • Updating intel network drivers
  • Temps are fine, 65°c for GPU / 35°c for CPU

Contact your ISP, the router/modem clearly does not like a port or connection type the game is using. A game should not be able to disconnect your entire connection, so common sense would suggest you contact your ISP for their Tier 3 or above to look at the actual logs on their end.

How come it used to work fine during betas ?
Also, she still has wifi working. Only her PC lose connexion for a few seconds.

I’ll ask her to try to contact her ISP tho, thanks

If it’s just the PC then I would not contact the ISP, I was under the impression the connection for the modem was dropping rendering everything offline, all I can suggest now is open an official support ticket with Blizzard, and they will guide you into giving them system logs to get to the bottom of it.

I have the same issue. Game lags out, then my whole internet connection shuts off for only a few seconds (which is enough to get kicked out of the game). This connection loss only happens on my PC, every other device connected to my modem works fine during the connection loss. Only happens since the latest patch.

Any solutions to this issue? I am struggling with the same problem. Log in play for few minutes, only and ONLY my pc internet connection gets shattered (same time i can use my other pc on router with wifi and it works), few minutes passes, connection to the pc restored. Connect to diablo, play few minutes, disconnected and repeat…

I have the same issue since 2 days.
Had no such issue the days before. (played early access and beta).

But the pc of my girlfriend, who is watching youtube at the time for example also disconnects. So it not only my pc but the whole router connection that goes south.

It only happens, if one of us or both play Diablo 4 during day- or eveningtime. In the night everything is ok. If neither of us plays Diablo 4 also everything is ok.

Same issue here, started happening today.

Game lags out and breaks the internet connection for everything connected to router for 3 seconds or so. No issues when game is not running. Happens for wifi and ethernet connection.

This is not possible, except you installed viruses which gained access to your router + pw.
Are people trying to cheat already?

Found one report where disabling crossplay helped…still very strange stuff.

A suggestion for those who are only having their PC only connection drop, try setting your firewall to Gaming Mode if it has it as an option.

What is your ISP bandwidth ie. (speed / throughput) that sounds like an unstable connection tbo, the only way the game would disconnect everything is if the diablo 4 servers were sending so much information to your client that it would be the equivalent of a ddos attack saturating your entire connection.

I’m having same issue on PS5. I’ll play for 20 mins or so and then game lags and disconnects my home network. Ive been offline now for an hour trying to get the router to connect

700 Mb/s both download and upload. Connection is stable. It breaks randomly only when Diablo IV is running.

From what’s been described, it sounds like this may be down to an aggressive Quality of Service setting in your Router, over-prioritising game data to the detriment of everything else.

Since the game has no influence over your network, we would advise reaching out to your respective ISPs, as it may be either a config or hardware issue with your router.

Thanks for your suggestions. I did try to use another router; an old Pentagram Cerberus P6362 with dated protocols. And it works fine on it, no disconnections. So I think its reasonable to assume the issue is most probably not due to some ISP’s settings. However I do not think it is fair to blame the hardware 100% and swipe it under the rug as there is clearly something fishy going on. There are other topics on the forum concerning the same problem and new ones start popping on Reddit too. I understand that all of this is only anecdotal evidence, but please be so kind to notice, that the issue appears only while playing Diablo IV and started recently. I am constantly playing other games, using Internet to work, stream content, etc., without problems.

Definitely something wrong here. My router still wont connect 4 hours later and still no internet. Even if it does start working im scared to play Diablo 4 incase the problem reoccurs.

Same here. It was all ok until some recent update of the game.
Do not listen to people who advise you to contact ISP. Name one hecking game which crashes your ethernet except for Diablo IV.

Fix your game. Diablo IV is breaking hard drives, rams, graphics cards and now even etherenet ports…

By any chance, do you have an idea of settings that could cause this ?

Im on ps5 but i have crossplay enabled, ive seen other posts saying turning that off and it could fix the issue but i cant even try that now as im 6 hours without internet. Got to wait till tuesday for an ISP engineer
