Diablo 4 discord is ran by awful people

Just wanted to share my experience with their awful moderation, poor treatment of new users and unprofessional behavior. Banning without a reason literally and denying appeals as well with no explanation given. And before people here start saying “you got what you deserve” just know that I am not the one who got banned yet I decided to speak out after my observations…
This kind of stuff does really leave a bad taste as far as the impression of entire community since Blizzard somewhat supports what they are doing and they do have a lot of members in there.

you are not the first one to mention this. reddit had posts about it, the hypocrites deleted it ofc

It’s not a big thing. I took a look at said Discord and it’s a waste of time anyway. There are better sources to educate yourself about the game and the people on this discord aren’t exactly the people I would looking forward to play with anyway.

I don’t use Discord much (because of how bad it is) - but is it run by Blizzard employees, or is it a Fan-run channel?

why care about Discord? I have not even have Discord installed on my PC. When I wanted to install it asked me lot of sensitive data, like my phone number, full name… … so skipped it.

If you call someone or even if you refer to someone outside the discord being “mentally ill” or “mentally disabled” you will get warned, however when an admin says the same thing about people he bans (according to message history)… it’s fine. Those messages are not moderated. Double standard community.

You need to keep in mind the Diablo 4 Discord is being run by a company not a community, You are entering their domain when your participate there.

Instead of complaining that the corporate overlord was not nice to you look for a private community that will likely put up with more drama than a businesses discord.

Company? What company? Business? Blizzard doesn’t run that discord.

If Blizzard does not have the final say in a global communication tool that all their media in relation to Diablo 4 points towards and uses direct branding of their Intellectual Property, I will be very surprised indeed.

PS. If they have nominated members of the community to manage the day-to-day operations, that does not necessarily mean that those nominees own and run it.

Then I am here to surprise you because their discord is a partnered community discord (quoting their own words) not an official Diablo 4 discord. They do have contacts with Blizzard and Blizzard supports the server, but in no shape or form they manage it.

Quote: “If you are looking for a direct line to someone from blizz, this isn’t the place. Only people from blizz here are CMs”.

Then I stand corrected.

Blizz is hyperbole anyway so don’t think about it to much. They want to empowere certain people by dimishing others :man_shrugging: .

No. It is set up and run by the r/diablo4 reddit folks. They do have a partnership with Blizzard like streamers and such do, but Blizz does not own it, run it, or moderate it.

They have some Community Manager staff in there to collect feedback the same way they read forums, twitter, reddit, and other sites. They may also answer questions and provide press release/event information to the r/diablo4 reddit folks.

Yeah, I checked it out the other day based on a US forums thread. Not run by Blizzard. Most Blizzard can do is drop them as a partner if they cross enough lines that Blizzard is not comfy being associated with them.

Here is the other thread and discussion from a few days ago.

Tbh it seems mods delete comments here as well. It seems d4 is too sensitive topic to have open discussion.

Yes. Blizzard runs the forums here and if people do not follow the Code of Conduct, and their posts are reported, the Mod may opt to remove the post/thread and also action the poster.

You can find the forum guidelines and the link to the Forum Code of Conduct here in the pinned post at the top of the forum.

It is not sometimes what someone says, it is how they say it. Name calling, insults, slurs, profanity/masked profanity, etc are not ok. Nor is flame bait designed to just create arguments and fights (religion, politics, etc). Stick to the game discussion on the forums and be polite.

Hello there!

That’s really unfortunate to be in the obligation to spread rumors and false information to justify actions.
Anyway, I am using here my right to answer -one time only, I don’t plan to expand further-.
I am Ketraies and I run the community Discord partnered with Blizzard.

The comment you are refering to is a one time answer from me saying “it’s not, people have mental illnesses” when you yourself said “that is funny” when we were discussing HCPs (High Conflict Persons) over a DMA article.

Therefore, you forgot to mention you were banned after cumulating 14 infractions in less than 2 months, issued by different moderators.
We rely on progressive discipline and clarification, and ultimately end up banning people being overly disruptive and failing to respect the community’s rules and standards.

We have 111,000 happy people in here, and we’re sorry for you that you couldn’t find something that suited you enough to be a positive and relevant user to share a common passion!
Our goal as admins and moderators is to provide a secured environment to ensure our users safety, all while cultivating a healthy environment for them to share about Diablo 4.

With 110K+ members, we currently only have about 120 registered bans, which is an incredibly low ratio, especially considering the fact most of these bans are alt accounts or newly created accounts being immediately disruptive/trolling or breaking discord ToS.
Thing is, for some reason, banned people tend wanting to come back again on a regular basis to antagonize the Staff and being disruptive with the members.

Of course, a loud minority of people will always be more seenable than the silent majority. I invite people to come and check the positive atmosphere and will to help from our Staff and Members

Thanks a lot for your input though, we will continue to work on becoming even better to foster a healthy environment.

Best,

o.O

“Le Drama”! Heh
At least that’s cleared up.

This is extremely unprofessional, why are you publicly airing dirty laundry in relation to a user especially given the the rank you are assigned.

It does not excuse any actions that you are making public, however it does scream amateur hour from the rooftops.

I am not in any moderation postition, but I do have an opinon on that one.

What you post on someone’s platform is not your property or private. When you falsely accuse people they have a right to clarify the situation.

You see it pretty often on the Blizzard WoW CS forums. They don’t usually give the exact quote that resulted in the infraction, but they do clarify the generalities of it and why the person received the penalty.

If someone does not want their dirty laundry aired, they probably should not make public accusations and a thread about it.

Blizzard can, and does, correct the “I did nothing wrong this was unfair” folks all the time.

“We do not comment on individuals bans, however we will/have investigate(d) these claims and been in touch with those involved.”

This is not very hard. Only a complete novice gives a full account and specifics when it is unwarranted, and serves only to protect their ego, especially at the very top of the hierarchy such as the root community administrator… Does Bobby Kotick take to twitter to address all the WoW bans in painstaking detail?
