Diablo IV huge disappointment, cancelled my pre-purchase

I thought Diablo IV was going to be the saving grace for the Diablo but for me it was just meh.

i joined the server slam and well… heres my thoughts.

Character selection;

the character classes look all very interesting on first glance, but then we have this customisation where i can change the hair and skin colour and the gender, i certainly would have played much more sorceress and amazon back in the day if i could have been “me” as a male character.

but then the Druid and barbarian in 4… the druid more so, he is wider than the San Francisco golden gate bridge, in fact he is bigger then the werewolf he turns into, and probably would get stuck in the suez canal.

why am i forced to play a body shape like that? if your going to customise characters… then let us customise them otherwise dont bother.

then we have the view on the screen, it reminds me of the first grand theft auto, the angle is terrible.

Gameplay / skills

its just so disconnected and quickly turns into mashing of keys rather than thinking about anything.

you have this basic skill, than then you just mash the other buttons occasionally when they allow, and spirit / mana regenerates with your basic lame attack

my character never really progresses, theres not this one skill i unlock which then replaces the old one, im using the same skill the whole game, and then the passive things arent passive, i have to ocasionally mash another button every 12 seconds for the passive thing to do something else as well.

theres no synergies with skills, and the skill tree is just a mess and visually a ui nightmare, i detested spending anytime looking through it and felt rushed just to shove skills into something to try it, because the descriptions were overcomplicated

i did like how you could swap skills around with gold, that was a very nice thing.

the cutscenes, jeez, leave them out, and why would you have “hold B” to skip rather than keep it as A, i dont wanna watch crappy cutscenes and nonsense chatter, non of it is well scripted or well thought out, get quest, go kill stuff, got it, i dont need endless waffle and cutscenes and some diabolical attempt at backstory, some of them were even cringe…

i also dont like the numbers on screen when you do damage, feels silly

Items

the inventory and item information is just terrible from a UI point of view, why cant i just have the basic info like in the old D2 days and make my own mind up whats best? and theres no set rules anymore, blues yellows, golds, it just feels poor, i dont know what im picking up, and i find myself not wanting to learn because a green + or red - does it for me, it looks like a dogs dinner too, theres some nice art, but the menu screen is cluttered and aweful and feels like im looking through a website from the 90s

item stats are just meh, wheres the faster attack, and life leach stuff, faster run/walk, i mean it just compounds the terrible skills tbh

summary
theres loads more i could go on about, but overall its just poor, i would rather buy an expansion for D2r and have an act 6 or something idk

i think the annoying thing is it had so much potential, the art, the visuals are great, the ui, the skills / attack system, and items - all terrible.

overall i’d give it a 2/10, but thanks to the server slam trial i saved myself £60 and can go buy something else instead.

a forum is probably the wrong place if you cant read anything before replying tbh. 500 words is circa the reading comprehension of a 4yr old so its not a tall ask, there’s even a summary.

i mean if you like it fantastic good for you, but it seems rather childish to run around posting that without reading any context as it dont improve the conversation or add value to the thread, i mean why even come to a forum if you refuse to read anything?

anyway have a great day and enjoy your game.

This is the most customization a Diablo game has, I understand that people like to play as someone they can identify as but to say that it’s a determint to anything is strange to me.

If you found that there’s no synergy with skills then you most liikely didn’t look that hard to find synergistic skills. I played a Rogue in the Server Slam and my build revolved around using Puncture to proc Vulnerable and then Flurry to spread it to every other mob. I theory crafted this build shortly after the first beta ended and finally tried it in the Server Slam and I have to say it’s very synergistic.

If you’re wondering what it looks like I’ll link it here.
https://d4builds.gg/builds/0abecbb4-ce74-4737-b4c8-ed1c6b85d227/

There are attack speed bonuses on gear, certain gear stats might be locked to specific classes, I saw it all the time while I was playing. Life leech however, I don’t recall seeing that.

I don’t know what you mean with item rarity.
Gray is broken, White is common, Blue is magical, Yellow is rare, Orange is legendary and I believe that there are uniques and potentially artefacts? I think it’s pretty cut and dry.

Cya don’t let the Butcher hit ya on the way out

Why does everyone who cancels their pre-purchase think they are important enough to warrant a pubic announcement and their reasoning for this life changing decision.

Genuinely looking for some insight…

I’m curious. In your build link you have a number of points invested in exploiting the daze mechanic, yet you don’t have any skills that apply that status effect. Perhaps I’m missing something …

Definetley D4 is not for D2 players! really, for D2 players the mechanics in D4 will be just too complicated and they will not manage to understand a build and to play it. I played D2 back in 2000s and D2R, this game is just one click play, no skills combos, no build mechanics, nothing, just farm all day long, find some good items and press one button…

Sorry, D2/D2R players really need to stick to D2, as Diablo 4 will be simply too hard for them to understand.

I do agree with the skill tree, it is a bit messy. But overal, I had much fun with the game. So I don’t agree on everything.

it’s funny that so many people come running to forums when the game was too hard for them to play. so, they make long ass post about getting a refund no one cares if you are playing d4 so get over yourself.

Everyone is the main character in their own story

It’s the chest affix.

Mangler’s Aspect

Lucky Hit: Dealing direct damage to a Vulnerable enemy has up to a 25-45% chance to daze them for 2 seconds.

Which I can see being proc’d quite often with Flurry.

Yea me too. Where is the runes that they show at first videos? I dont know what all your expectations but for a 100$ game they must give us something that diablo lovers want.

Why do you say too complicated ? There is nothing hard, or difficult, to understand about the mechanics in D4.

I think everyones tought must be important like you or others.

Personally, i dont really see the problem with the fact that the character is in a bigger size. I´d say that the animation of the model is what made it feel a bit off, that is i felt like it was moving around almost in slow motion. If they would just fix the animation of the model, make it a bit quicker in movements the feel to it would be better.

It´s a good and valid question as it does seem pointless. I´m guessing that most of them are probably quite passionate about the Diablo franchise and this is the only way they know how to express them selfs. Even if they do so i think they will most likely pick up a copy at the end anyway.

Sounds like a skill issue.

Personally, my clan loved it. It was literally the most fun we have had in a game in a while.

Evade and potions matter, skills have weight and impact, the gameplay is more involved than d3 by a factor of 10. Learning fights and synergies, testing builds, the graphics.
It was a 10/10 for us.

Can’t wait to play, booked the week off work and ordered a bottle of Blanton’s , and a 30 day Himalayan Salt aged 500g Rib Eye steak from my butcher, going to devour that then get stuck in at midnight and game until I crash. 5 days off all on diablo 4. It’s like Xmas!

Fwiw, I gotta agree that having body types or customisation options restricted per class is very… idek. 2000-something. Those things should all be available across the entire spectrum.

No, this is not you making a custom avatar, this is being able to customise an avatar.

They have specific silhouettes, they have specific cosmetics.

It’s by design, just like skins in overwatch. You know it’s still roadhog or Genji despite all of the available skins. Exact same principle. So you can tell among the carnage where the necro is so you can gank them. Etc. In PvP.

It’s a modern and clever choice that makes combat more slick. With all the on screen chaos at a silhouette glance you know which enemy is the barbarian… rogue etc.
