Let’s start with the perspective of why this one established online mode should be the only one? After all, no one forbids access to multi, playing in a group, creating clans, but to the real “solo” offline game, unfortunately YES. Why?
There are several reasons why such a mode should always be available, I will list a few that are important to me.
- Technical matters - queues, overloaded servers, technical breaks, etc. when someone has only a moment to play, from time to time the whole technicalities of online games are at least irritating.
The fact that you have no influence on whether you will be able to play or not, whether your character will suddenly disappear, or the whole game will not fall apart just when you have time chili to play.
And the atomic option, the creators eliminate the title because they can, and you are left with nothing, even though the game was not free.
- Immersion - the game has its own story and atmosphere. our hero is almost always someone: chosen, marked, heir, etc. in the multiplayer game, it doesn’t matter, there are tens, hundreds of such chosen ones, so what’s special about them. We can assume that multiplayer kills the story.
Can you really enjoy returning a quest NPC hearing thanks, accepting a reward and seeing a queue of characters returning the same quest?
Or artisans of all kinds, there are always a few heroes standing around overlapping each other and creating a nasty mass.
When we play solo in all hubs, cities, we do our business, but when there are other players in the city, it’s enough to stand for a moment and we literally have pinball one after another bounces from point to point.
In the form that the game has now, even attempts to empathize with the world are pointless … because when we are going through the harsh and dangerous wasteland, facing all kinds of threats … suddenly BOOM another player comes to the location ,smash the enemies and disappear, and so much for the atmosphere of the dangerous wastelands.
- Because you can play with others…? I much prefer meeting and talking with friends but also meeting new people face to face rather than through headphones and a microphone. Moving all interactions online comes with a price, especially after so many people have been forced to stay at home not so long ago.
- Controversial hardcore
I don’t have much time to play, especially I don’t have time to play which makes me tired. I play for fun, I have challenges in the real world, so I like to use various boosters in games to make super easy story mode … and I hear this scream - CHEATER!!! Yes, and what does it matter if that’s how I like to play. And for the sake of clarity, I am against any hacks, bots, exploits, etc. in multiplayer games. Separate offline mode is needed so that there is no confusion.
To sum up, I don’t want to force anyone to do anything, I just point out that in this way, games stop connecting in a good sense and divide into those who can play and enjoy the so-called live service game and those who simply will not use the title. We also know that two modes are possible on the example of Diablo 2 Resurected and other titles.
In the case of Diablo IV, it’s especially sad for someone who grew up on the whole series.

Absolutely agree with everything you wrote, I sincerely hope that at launch they will put the option to play offline or otherwise party with friends without necessarily being online all the time with other strangers ruining my gaming experience.
I love and have always loved Diablo for the ability to be able to play on my own and do whatever I feel like because it’s a damn PVE

I was very excited to play this game with my girlfriend as we did D3 together. But since our playstation is set up in a separate house in the yard where there is no internet connection, it seems we won’t be able to enjoy this one together.
Was going to purchase PC and Console versions but I don’t really see the point now.
Sad.

I completely agree with this, and have been against the always online and GAAS approach for a long time, despite have great internet connection. Don’t think it will matter now, it’s 2023, it’s the age where consumers rights are diminishing and we don’t truly own anything anymore. The online aspects are a goldmine for companies, so there is no incentive at all to make an offline mode so we can probably scap that idea.
I know the main reason why the game is set in a shared world is to increase sales on cosmetic items due to players being more likely to spend money on it if they can showcase it to other players. I really enjoy the game so far, but the online aspects are very worrying for the future due to all the reasons you mentioned.

if want offline then play D2R.
D4 shall not have offline.
Why? What’s the difference?

I agree with this. I am not liking this hybrid mmo approach at all. I just have a bad feeling to how this is going to turn out. Hopefully it’s something they can turn off but why should they? The only reason I see for this approach is to sell cosmetics. I am fine with seeing players in cities but I don’t want to see them out in the world.

All i can say this will never happen bro and forget about it.

To be honest, even having a separate offline mode for characters does not necessarily mean no access to the cosmetics store (and microtransactions), so … the more the lack of offline is not clear to me.

God no, I will never understand the point of the offline games as this means you will need to have files downloaded which allows you to change any stats you want xD
It’s better to call for help against the boss.Sorry, I couldn’t resist😉 It’s not really about understanding the other side’s position. It’s just about being able to give the decision to the players (all).
Totally agree.
Or minimum private sesion (only manual invited ppl or friends can join) like d3 and guild sesion (only guild members allowed to join).

Completely private gameplay but still online- yes, but with some optional changes. I don’t remember where it was, but the “difficulty level” was broken down into several modifiable factors where you could get an ultra hard effect or a walk in the park for total noobs.

I agree with this. While I would overwhelmingly prefer a straight offline mode, at the very minimum a private mode. I don’t like dealing with rando’s and I utterly resent being forced in with them. If I want to play with people, I have plenty of people to reach out too. Otherwise I want to crank my music, get my grind on and not see other players in my area.

Agreed, I doubt Blizzard will add offline mode but there’s no excuse to not have a single player session.
I absolutely hate the shared world but I love the game which makes it very frustrating.

It’s too late for that anyways… should have been year or years ago…
NO it’s not too late for anything, D3 came out with Auctionhouse, they spent a lot of time and resource developing that mess and what happened ? they binned it becuse it was a stupid idea.
Now is exactly the time to voice our concerns and opinions.
Once again there is ZERO reason not to add at least single player session like in Diablo 3
