Game worked perfectly before the changes to frame gen. Now it seems that frame gen gets turned off when you open certain uis, like the map or the smith. The stutter that is caused by turning it back on makes the game unplayable.
Nah even last time before they turned it off it had these stutters when talking to an npc or opening the map, it just seems even worse now.
Good thing, you don’t need FG at all if you don’t use RT and that barely makes any visible difference in this game
You would get lower fps when rendering multiple scenes like vendor 3d model + high res char in inventory. This is something different. Before they reworked frame gen this was not the case. The disabling frame gen is something other games use as well.
Obviously the game is still broken but i have to disagree with you on that FG disabling.
If that were the case i would still have my FPS at 138 (reflex cap) when its disabling at that moment (4090 here) but it drops and especially after closing the vendor screen i get a huge stutter and the game actually freezes for a sec.
Something with the FG implementation is still broken af.
Without FG no problems except the usual minor stuttering when traversing.
It seems to have improved since they borked it last, but it’s still a bit funky at times. But then FG does funky things in other games I’ve noticed. It’s AI. I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw Lilith to start eating spaghetti.
The only problem in other games with FG that i have had so far is when i am tabbing out to my 2nd monitor, then sometimes FG breaks and i have to disable/re-enable it, tab in and out several times till it fixes itself or even restart the game if nothing helps.
Had that happen in Remnant 2 and RoboCop and others.
the huge fps drop and stutter comes from when the game changes gfx settings. its like when you press apply in the options menu
Doesn’t change anything for me It just stutters.
the game does literally the same thing on ur 4090 as on my 4080. it disables frame generation and turns it back on. it did not do this before they ‘fixed’ frame gen. its not the only game that does this because the way the ui is rendered doesnt allow frame gen.
here high contrast fratime graph. its capped at 50ms. but the spikes are 120ms. should be more obvious like this

You are running with RT on judging from your low FPS, right?
RT is very heavy on the CPU in this implementation.
Try without and it should improve, but then again… u don’t need FG without RT on a 4080.
So basically RT implementation is really bad and FG too…
Absolutely unplayable
the same happens when no rt with high fps, its frame gen not anything else. i just chose this area cuz its worst case for max rt. there are tons of candles that have their shadows raytraced. the diffence makes it easy to see that frame gen gets turned off when uis active.
