Offline mode now!

And…wrong. Wrongedy wrong wrong wrong. Also, wrong.

Offline == no co-op/online components. Done.

I would happily wave goodbye to the co-op garbage. Offline worked fine in D1/2… Perma-online helped nothing in D3…

Where do you think these off-line components currently sit? They are on the server, with a server architecture, security and operating system !! They are designed to work completely separately form the client with many security protocols and ways of exchanging data. There are two approaches to achieve what you require:

(1) Blizz convert all the so-called off line components to be able to work properly on local PC Open architecture … expensive, takes time and the only commercial way to proceed.

or

(2) You effectively copy the whole server, OS, and client to a powerful local PC, just like a private server setup … and play it solo. Something I have experience of - but Blizz would never do this because it exposes all the server side code and data traffic translations/algorithms to potential hackers for use against the online version of the game.

So you don’t think the real reason servers are total online is so Blizzard sells more Shop stuff?

D4 was never meant to be played local so the moment the severs stop is the moment your 80 bucks are gone.

Absolutely no. You can buy shop stuff online or offline - makes no difference. If they were serious about shop stuff you would be bombarded with new things to buy everyday etc - our shop is very crap and is not a serious income stream for Blizz … look at how Destiney 2 has evolved if you want to see an example micro transactions.

Blizz strategy has always to been to move online with all their games … because online is were people create communities … which in turn hooks the customer deeper into the Bizz brand.

Thinking online designs purpose is to sell more shop stuff misses the 10 x Elephants in the room of why else they might want to do it.

Edit - TBH I’m surprised off-line games are even made anymore … I would never buy one.

Luckily there’s ways to play offline “only” online games.

What you mean create communities? There’s 0 community sense in Diablo, most of the players that are playing.>

  1. Play with friends
  2. Play Alone

There’s no in between, excluding the “forced” cooperation.

This is an ActiBlizz problem not a me problem.

Deciding to lock product access behind servers prone to online attack? Then deal with the consequences. Properly.

The assets and game state are sync’d, not owned, by the servers. If the game existed entirely, as per your delusional and uninformed claims, on the servers, the install would be minimal and would present an interesting design choice made by barely qualified chimps high on… sucrose.

The servers are not required. Never were. They exist to manage co-op gameplay, cheaters and the idiocy that is the store.

Your post, in general, is a pile of shame. Sit in it and bake.

Are you mad - I play in a clan with around 70 people onlien at same time  and use are own Discord server … this has been my prevfered style of gaming ever since on-linme became serious.

Most proper Clans formed before D4 even launched and had full rosters … i was lucky as this one still had 2 or 3 spaces available. Sometimes I feel I am playing a different game to some folks, and they miss out a good 50% of the game.

You are brain dead :skull: :skull: :skull:

Edit - Well not fully — the gaming consoles use a form of Peer to Peer Networking infrastructure (like Destiney 2) but its still massively server in a client configuration.

Article explaining Destiny 2 — as you can see a number of key components are not on the client:

https://www.pcgamer.com/the-strange-science-of-destiny-2s-uniquely-complicated-netcode/

The aim was to create exactly the same concept as D4.

“Bungie set out to create a game that blurs the line between singleplayer and multiplayer”.

You have a completely child like understanding I am afraid.

Ignorance != informed opinion or fact. But do keep the personal attacks going. Definitely adding weight to your uninformed argument.

Notably not an ARPG… but do feel free to try and draw parralells to… potatos, corn bread and… I don’t know… lithium… somehow?

Speaking as a dev of… more years than I care to count, I’m going to go ahead and assume the only child here is the one slinging insults and ignorance around like a mentally impaired marmoset.

Don’t forget to Flag Wolfblass’s comments/insults as inappropriate.

Not a very nice person, quite toxic.

The analogy to Destiny 2 was not about the game genre ffs but the networking, game component architecture to achieve a game that was also single/mmo hybrid … like D4.

The rest of you post makes no sense and you definitely need a training refresh on systems development or try to progress from foundation level.

Anyhow - time for D4 Clan runs now … you made your point, I and other developers have made ours - we are different. Blizz have taken all your money and there is almost zero possibility they will convert it to a off-line game due to time, cost other priorities.

No one is against the idea of offline,. we just recognise the complications - hope you get your fairy tail wish.

Thanks - seen yours also Bummbulance … as if Blizz care!

Yup, I’d say 99% of my insulting words were in response to you trolling.

Your lack of comprehension is, again, a your problem not a me problem.

Sorry but none of your claims are based in any sort of experience in development. Falsley claiming said expertise to support your ill-founded claims is… juvenile.

Surely you can do better? Maybe claim you’ve been contributing to dotnet NIO projects?

… DITTO + DITTO … and you still won’t be playing D4 offline this century. :sob:

Do you know that you don’t have to care about DDoS when you are playing your game offline?
This would be a step in the right direction.

It isn’t when battlenet goes offline… and that’s the ops point. Some of us would like to play the game when blizzard breaks something.

The thing about this is people claim it’s the cross platform that blocks offline gaming, yet you can disable cross platform gameplay… so why not disable online gameplay completely? Then people in uni or armed forces or on the moon can play the game in offline mode, coming online to patch or if they choose to play with other people.

It is purely a netcode issue, there’s no need for anti cheat or anything in an offline game, so no excuse for not providing it.

Don’t forget the 5 hour maintenances on the 26th and 27th of June, right in the middle of EU peak times (18:00 CEST). Brilliant
