Well that’s the problem right there. Find someone to tank for you while going some heavy one shot build or just reroll.
The damage is there if you spec for it but the survivability is crap and the minions go out the window pretty soon. Hopefully they will sort the minions out but in the meantime i’ll just play my rogue and barb.
i dont have the lack of survivability with my minions actually . the real problem is damage but i dont have the 2 uniques for my build yet . didnt follow any build but managed 34 nightmare dungeon yesterday and can push higher . i think that with the 2 uniques the build will become really strong but need luck … No luck yet
You’ll find the people who are complaining the hardest just want instant gratification. They want to roll a new character and demolish the game from level 1 to 100 with minimum input and time investment, I suspect they don’t like the idea of building a powerful character from nothing and have been spoiled watching over-tuned classes such as the rouge and were never taught that life is not fair. I’m in the same boat as you, minions rarely die on 40 NM lvl. 83, and I’m playing casually AF, I’m just making everything vulnerable and it’s the minions killing.
yeah i have the feeling that we can really find a way to make a really powerfull build , just need to think a lot between all aspect interactions … idk how good it will be when i’ll get my 2 uniques but it’ll be definitely really viable. The pleasure comes from creating my own build , people should start thinking by themself and stop stupidly follow what ppl do .
I dont think Minion necro needs a buff, it needs a edited by moderation fix and some qtl changes.
Frist of all give us console corpse tarting who came up with the idea that targeting corpses with the mouse could work, klicking abilitys so the auto targeting works is so bad.
Fix the Minion legendarys/Traits etc, yes for endgame it might be ok that a more complex build is needed but atleast enable the casuals to have a semi workable build.
Its absolut not ok that you pick everything you think should be good and then hit a wall with ~70 because half of the traits are bugged and working Minion Builds are absolut counter intutive.
Its just bad that one of the weaker builds the game have dos need a big amount of wired knowledge to even work.
It made me allmost quit the game because i was so frustrated that my build didnt work and did get weaker and weaker while i had the impression i have everything i need, right paragon board, all minion legendarys and uniques and still no results.
After a weekend of testing makes sense why, and how to manage it and now i have working build that is absolut counter intutive.
Tip for everyone that wants a minion build, dont use minion legendarys and avoid most minion notes/boards in the paragon tree most dont work or are not worth it, you can scale Minions way better without those.
It’s not about being the strongest or the most efficient, there is not even leaderboards in the game yet. It’s about playing something you enjoy. There will be plenty of other builds that min-max sweats can play to pretend they are good at the game when the power carries them, the minion build is more fun to play that anything and only really works if you manage your playstyle and corpse resource/use on a situational basis in tandem with other supporting skills. Find something else you enjoy if you don’t think they are viable instead of having man tantrums.
Why should it be an issue when minions would be really strong? In Diablo 2 i really loved my Paladin Zealot, despite hammerdin being the ultimate build in the game. Sometimes it was cool to just play my summoner build necro where i just stood in the back and cast iron maiden. The skill expression in Diablo is minimal compared to a lot of other games and genres. There are so many builds that basically insta delete the screen but minions are too lazy to play? Nahh, let people just have fun!
I 100% agree, but blizz wants to patch things that are fun and have some kind of weird wait on what should be an easy fix. Unlike the insane bugs that basically break the game. For instance, golems in infinite charge, key stones not working for minions, stats not working for minions, legendries and abilities that should apply to minions but due to the weird interactions they stack once, then stop stacking ever :P.
Honestly I have given up on minions. There is no point in having them. U don’t invest in them. You will have to spam that sum button, because they lack the ability to live. If you do invest into minions, your build is terrible because you could be buffing talents that do actual damage lol. If the argument is that they are just utility. Then why have them take up a button slot or even die. They are just utility. Honestly why even have a summoner build lol. I just don’t understand why they are so against minions doing the damage.
You can’t expect people to take you seriously when you say “input for damage”.
A summoner build is viable, though rightly not S tier, as at that point the game is playing against itself while your character just stands at a distance, debuffs and watches ai minions fight ai monsters. but this requires specific aspects, gear and paragon nodes. This however takes time to accumulate, and when this thread was made people wanted them destroying the content out of the box as they foolishly became accustomed to how strong they were during a beta and wanted the same instant gratification.
That I have to slot the skills is a big problem. If sorc can use 2 skills to passive why do I need to slot skeletons and golem. The points in should be enough. Would be good if you could bind them to the radial and can just assigned to a key.
If you all just want a bone spear necro it just proves OPs point.
Yes if Minions wouldnt need a skillslot there would be no problem with them beeing “utility” or an addition.
But as it is now they compete with core skills, and they are often just worse then the other utility skills.
I think the biggest problem is the lack of a focus fire button. The curse modification they did in the latest patch still appears to not be working as intended. The mobs will still take off and just randomly target whatever they please. I figure a good solution would be to just add a focus target to the Golem taunt. I have no clue why this isn’t a thing already. They have that feature in D3 and Immortal. But aside from that I think as it stands to make a good summoner work you are going to need to really dig into your paragon board to figure out the best survivability of your minions. Also you absolutely need to be running Mendeln to even think about making this spec viable. I’m running a thorn summoner build with Mendeln at the moment and so far (at least in solo dungeons) it seems to be working well. The pets do a monsterous amount of damage. It’s to the point now that I can literally just run in circles and heal. I do agree though that some sort of focus fire button is probably the best solution to the problem here. Even better yet a gather and focus fire option (For the bubbled mobs at least). I don’t quite understand how they make a pet class who benefits THE MOST from not having pets. Its almost a meme tbh. I’m not expecting them to fix this at any point in the near future so I’ve been working around it. I am enjoying Necro’s for the most part, but they’ve sorta dropped the ball on this.
the wording was off on that patch. if you notice how your minions start attacking is that your character either has to attack something or get hit. the curse skills weren’t engaging the minions in combat before the patch.
I agree with you that a focus attack would be great but one of the bigger things hurting minions is that they are not inheriting buffs they should be. for example most of the minion damage buffs only benefit the minions by 20-50%, so 10-25% increase from the nearby paragon board minion damage buffs near a maxed deadraiser glyph on the cult leader board instead of 50%.
