The game consumes all the VRAM of the graphics card and causes the computer to freeze!

the paging file should be on the same directory that your OS is on and hopefully the fastest drive you have

Aside from the usual stutter fest that a town can be (especially when using evade to get around quicker), today upon teleporting back to town from a NM dungeon my PC stalled out for a few seconds (noticeable because a stream on my 2nd monitor also paused when this happened). Turning down textures to Medium now since I read that that might help and judging from MSI Afterburner, it does keep VRAM usage at around 7000 rather than the full max out that comes with High, but this shouldn’t be happening regardless, the game needs to dump old textures far more frequently.

I have a 3070Ti and play on 1080p, with a Ryzen 7 5800X and 32GB of RAM.

Same here. I use this oportunity to link my thread:
VRAM Memory leak suspected - Technical Support - Diablo IV Forums (blizzard.com)

Went out yesterday and bought a worse card, 1050ti and so far i have not crashed but yet i can put either of the 30 series cards in and with in 15-20mins crash bam boop. 9hrs in with no crash seems 30 series cards are getting the stiff end of the stick here. But of course it would all depend on what means worse now eh, In this case the worse card seems to be either of my 30 series cards And the winner seems to be the 1050ti like come on blizzard WTF.

Im using a 980Ti 6gb liquid cooled on a 16gb ram pc (mid-low graphics, high textures, 4k res) and not crashing at all in world zones except: when I open inventory at blacksmith /or/ randomly in cities

The 1050ti draws alot less power, have you maybe considered it to be a weak or faulty PSU?

It could possibly be that if I was having the same issue across multiple games, But D4 seems to be the only game I currently own that is having this issue at all. But I shall check that out non the less.

i arrived at the same conclusion of the vram being full then crashing the PC … somewhere i read that playing in windowed mode avoids the freeze and i’ve been playing in window mode since… it looks bad but i rather play with borders than to have a bricked GPU.

RX 6600 XT- for the card.

A simple explanation for that behaviour would be that D4 rapidly spikes the GPU hard when doing simple things like opening the inventory, vendor uis or even the char select screen.
You can literally see it with MSI Afterburner overlay on.
These powerspikes can cause problems if the PSU is not up to the task or you have something lik a Gigabyte 3080 (TI) which are now known to be faulty and should be replaced via RMA.

My 2070S fans with default 100% powerlimit when opening the inventory sound like a jet starting to take off
Luckily i have my powerlimit set to 70% to make it rather silent and reduce heat with only losing a few FPS.
This is something you can try with every GPU and i would recommend especially in summer.
Saves alot of power, reduces heat and more silent fans for like 3-5 FPS less in my case seems like a good deal

Crashing because of VRAM overflowing will not brick your GPU but i really hope they will adress this in the big patch they announced which supposedly contains performance fixes.

game represents no trouble for my card… not even a raise in temps.

out of the sudden sound kept going screen frozen pc kept going but screen ā€œa pictureā€ that’s why i arrived to the gpu vram conclusion, it stopped when i started playing in window mode.

having to hard reset the pc everytime freeze happened was what made me think of having a bricked gpu.

Edit: repetitive hard resets.

I’m starting to experience this issue too. I disconnected my PC for the night and mind you, I’ve been playing this game nonstop with my boyfriend and never had issues with the game crashing, but yesterday I tried getting on and every time I boot up Diablo it goes to the character loading screen then just automatically crash. I have a rtx 2060 super, and 16gb ram.
