Why leveling is so boring?

Hi mates. I’m trying to get from level 40 to 50 but it’s hard. I can’t do more than two whisper tree a day. It feels repetitive and uninspiring. I did all map and faction rewards with my main but now, what else?

This game is about a repetitive grind. If you don’t have fun doing that, that will be a problem. Try different builds, chars or activities like nm dungeons, helltides or events. If you don’t have fun, stop and come back later if you feel like it. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

Bad news, from 50+ it is only going to take longer.

The game do lack in things to do and that is part reason to why it actualy is a boring game. Outside of the story, there is only whisper farming, helltide event(tier3+), legion/world boss event and nightmare dungeon (tier 3+).

So in t2 you basicly have to do what you currently are doing until you unlock tier3, aka sidequests, whisper farming and dungeons. (and that is basicly all you will be doing until you hit 100)
So play an hour each day not more, you will get burned and bored so fast if you do.

If you find it boring. Don’t play it. Diablo 3 was spamming rifts. Diablo2 was spamming mf runs and sanctuary/Baal. Here you spam nm dungeons, helltides, events and tree as a side if if you feel like it. That was to be expected and if you don’t like that, why did you buy the game before informing yourself? It was totally expected to be exactly this grind. More grind content will come with seasons and expansions but it will be the same. A game that is about grind.

I think it could be funnier playing an alt, when you choose passing through the campaign, if you could make hell tides and get unique aspects since the begining, so you could be testing setups and getting some interesting items while leveling.

Please. Diablo 1 to 3 each showed an evolution of the ARPG series, why did they suddenly stop? Even taking a step backwards in many cases in the game?

I’ve devoted thousands of hours into Diablo 1, 2 and 3 and suddenly I cannot play for more than, well, I got to level 73 and that was it, unsure how many hours I played, something is wrong with Diablo 4. Sanctuary never felt so dull. Diablo Bore, Diablo Chore.

You are dismissing an open world shared with others, group events and world bosses as evolutionary step or call them steps backwards. Why? Because you don’t like them? Diablo 4 changed a lot of things. Apparently just not to your liking. I agree that it needs even more and some of those new steps are not as I wished them to be, I still think d2 is the better game in case of the item system and trading, but you can’t dismiss that they did steps in a new direction.

  1. Having a max level that is too high for current content. It should have been 70. Then transition to WT4 then have the gear grind.

  2. Detaching gear completely from level. You can find BiS gear theoretically at level 50.
Gear is completely random. This was different in D3, where stats were random, but gear always dropped at your level.

  3. Rewards don’t scale with difficulty correctly (also because it is completely random).

I don’t think it is about the type of activities. I think it is about how (un)rewarding completing them feels. ARPGs are about grinding, but there is more to it. It is grinding with a purpose. And once you get detached from that feeling of purpose the boringness of what you are doing shines through

Edit: I have faith that this will be addressed in future patches. Currently it is a bit messy though.

Edit 2: One thing that comes to mind is decreasing XP needed from 50-100 drasticallys. Decreasing that grind, then linking ilevel of drops to character level.

I’m not dismissing them, I would not call them major evolutions and the kind of game content I want, they are simply not enough to make up for the flaws I do feel the need to mention.

I don’t like the open world system but this is not a factor in why I dislike that game, I found World Bosses unrewarding and repetitive, especially boring having to wait minutes for it to start, but again not a major factor.

I played to level 73, I obviously think some of it was ok. Although I forced myself to do a lot of that.
