Game freezes when trying to connect

I can start Hearthstone, check stats, update decks etc. But whenever I try to connect to a game, HS freezes and doesn’t continue. This is the case for all game types, including solo games.

It happens since yesterday evening. I didn’t change anything to my system. Yesterday during the day, I played tons of games with no issues. Just in the evening, it suddenly didn’t work anymore.

I tried just about anything: check network, restart PC, delete Battle.net folder, uninstalling and reinstalling the game. No result so far.

I play tons of other games and never have connectivity issues with them. It’s always Hearthstone that seems to fail every 6 months or so. It’s highly annoying.

Same here. Cannot play at all. Freezes on the spinning wheel loading.

It only happens, when looking for an online match vs players.

Even re-installing the game does not help.
Also using HS Deck Tracker or not doesn’t matter.
Deleting config folders does not helo.
Obviously restarting the game doesn’t work as well.

Yep, freezing on spinning wheel.

Edit:
Ok, I found something out. Whenever I’m using Cable network, HS freezes. When I use wifi, it DOESN’T freeze and I can play.

I had a similar problem a while back and turned on UPnP on my router. That helped fix that problem, but it doesn’t now.

Seems HS is using some weird networking stuff. Other games never have these problems.

I opened a ticket to the support and got this response. I didn’t do all the steps, I just set my card to max performance for HS and it worked.

Here is the full walltrough (have in mind that this might be specific to my case and could possibly not help everyone):

In this case we should try a clean driver install. To do this, we want to •uninstall the current driver by using DDU: guru3d com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

On this page, scroll to the bottom where it says Download Locations, and choose the link closest to your location.

This should automatically start a download and when that’s finished, right-click the folder and choose ‘Extract All’ and click Browse, then choose your desktop for the location on the left. Then click New Folder at the top and name it DDU, then click Select Folder then Extract.

When that’s finished, the folder should automatically open, but if not, find the DDU folder on the desktop and open that.

Inside you should see a DDU file. Double clicking this should give you the option to Run and then Extract. When that’s finished, you should see a Display Driver Uninstaller file. Click on this to open the file.

On the right-hand side, you should see a drop down box and in that, you can change it to your graphics card. Then choose Clean and restart on the left.

This will go through and completely remove all the old driver files which will allow a clean install of the new driver. This helps, because sometimes old files can cause conflicts with the new driver.

You can also find a video walkthrough here:

Once your computer restarts, download the latest driver by going here:
nvidia com/ Download/ driverResults.aspx/166629/en-us

Run the installer and select the Nvidia Driver option only. Then I would recommend doing a Custom install and selecting the ‘Perform a clean installation’ option.

Once the driver install has finished, change the Nvidia settings so that the game is using the Nvidia card:
• Right click on the desktop and launch NVIDIA Control Panel --> Manage 3D settings.
• Go to Program Settings tab.
• Select the game to change the graphics processor under “Select a program to customize”. If it’s not is not available, select the specific game from the drop down list.
• Select your “Prefer maximum performance” graphics card under “Power management”.

Then reset the game settings to set everything back to default: battle net /support/article/126203

That might be a good solution for you, but for me it’s a network problem. Game runs fine when I’m on wifi.

Update dec 14:
Either Blizzard changed something in the latest update or someone fixed the internet connection. I changed nothing, and since a few days I can play HS the normal way, cabled connection.

Problem solved. For now.
