i was under the impression, back when magnetize was introduced, that it didnt count as ‘play’ a minion because it was magnetized. maybe im wrong. maybe not. i was surprised magentizing works with mimiron, the mastermind even though it says if you ‘play’ a minion.
but that would mean the hunter secret zombeeees should pop when minions magnetize! but it doesnt.
Magnetize counts as play as you can see from both the tooltip and cards like Mimiron. Zombees doesn’t trigger cause the minion isn’t summoned and therefore there isn’t a target. However, there is an inconsistency that objection doesn’t trigger when you magnetize a minion.
Edit: Fixed Autocorrect
but zombees reads play not summon so it should trigger.
It does trigger. But you don’t see it.
Okay, step back to explain. The trigger of a secret is in most cases checked twice. Once when the triggering action happens. And once when it is time to actually trigger the secret.
Example 1: You have Explosive Runes and Mirror Image, played in that order. I play a minion. Both secrets trigger. They are queued for evaluation in the order in which they were played. So Runes triggers first. It deals its damage. Depending on the health of the minion I played and whether it has Divine Shield, it might survive or die.
If my minion survives, then Mirror Image will trigger next and you will get a copy of the damaged minion on your side. But if Explosive Runes killed my minion, then Mirror Image will not trigger to summon a dead body for you. That is implemented by the second trigger check. Once it’s time to evaluate the secret, a final check is done to see if the triggering minion still exists. It doesn’t so Mirror Image goes back to sleep.
The same happens with Zombees and a magnetic card. The secret triggers and is queued, but the magnetize effect was first in the queue. By the time Zombees can be evaluated, the target has disappeared, and hence the secret does not trigger after all.
your explaination just doesnt make sense. saying that the secret triggers but then it doesnt because the minion ‘disappears’ as being magnetized sounds rather made up to justify the interaction between zombees and a minion being magnetized.
also taking your explaination and use it on mimiron; wouldnt that mean that its ability shouldnt trigger because as a minion is being played it disappears as being magentized hence shouldnt trigger its effect?
Well, I even added an example with a very different secret that works the same. Mirror image does not trigger on a minion that is already dead due to Explosive Runes, nor on a minion that is magnetized, because there simply is no target left for it to copy.
And Zombees does not trigger on a minion that is already dead due to Explosive Runes, nor on a minion that is magnetized, because there simply is no target left for that the summoned bees can attack.
Mimiron’s ability does not require a target. So it doesn’t care that the played minion has already disappeared, the ability was triggered and nothing blocks it from continuing.
What makes Zombees and Mirror Image (and a few other cards) different is that they can only trigger when the minion that was played still exists.
