As a casual player the game gets harder for me with every new update they make. The new cards are way strogner than the older ones and if you don’t spend lots of money or time on this game you won’t have them. Now I can’t even win at the lower ranks. Even at the ranks 21 people come up with new cards I have never seen before. Additionaly the older cards get nerved, cost more mana and I barely see any people using the older cards. My opponent suddenly has a reborn effect on his minions. I never had access to all cards before the updates and just a few hours/days after the update I already have to face people using ful decks with the new cards. How should I even stand a chance? Using basic cards vs the new overpowered ones? Nice one.
I don’t have the time to grind every season or pay a lot of money for packs just to fight versus meta decks. This is not fun.
I know people who have access to all cards are better but now they are already at the lowest ranks and I barelly win a game anymore.
Arena - Paywall
Casual - Full of people with new cards
Wild Mode - Hahaha. Should be fun when you have access to all cards and pwn people who don’t do so.
Tavern brawl - It is less fun with every new brawl. For many brawls you have to build a deck which is just not possible if you don’t have access to cards.
So there is nothing left for me where I have the same chances as the opponent. They always start with better cards and stronger decks. The only fair situation is when they make a random brawl where everyone has access the the same cards. Besides that every mode in this game is unfair. If you don’t grind or spent lots of money you will always start with worse cards and be a freekill for them.
A few years ago I played this game more and had better cards. It was easy to beat the opponents. Now I don’t spend so much time on this game and I can barely win a game anymore. I log and play a few games where I can rekt by stringer cards and then ragequit and move to another game. I don’t think this is how it is supposed to be. The game should be fair for all players. If you are a creditcard warrior or spent your whole life infrotn of your computer it’s yyour decision nad you should also play versus players who do the same but the lower ranks should be at least fair. Im a casual player and expect a fair game with other casual players. I don’t want to face meta decks of creditcard warriors and no lives.
If you want to win and rank up, it’s fairly difficult and very unlikely to happen if you don’t either
save up gold and resources in order to buy tons of packs
cash in with some money
Personally I managed fine with point 1 (the only thing I’d spent money on in this game would be probably of cosmetic nature like a skin or new hero for my favourite class that I actually like visially) but it doesn’t really matter that much if you don’t enjoy playing meta decks.
I’ve had a blast playing a non-meta handlock (no genn and doomsayers) in the year of the raven back pre-rotation and it happened to be quite competitive in the standard ranked queue. Reached my highest rank back then.
The difference between league of legends and hearthstone might be that you can’t effectively climb with decks that are fun to you but totally out-of-meta and heavily outclassed (like my handlock in saviors of uldum. Urgh, kinda sad). Another user in here wrote that you have to adapt if you want to climb. Right now I’m working on a resurrect priest which hopefully does bring me back to rank 10 range (dropped heavily after expansion release).
You don’t have that issue with league. You pick a champ and if you re good enough you win, no matter the updates and new metas and what not.
Though hearthstone is my ‘on-the-go’ pick. Playing ocasionally a game of cards while traveling is priceless for me.
This game is just full of unskilled players who pick top tier decks into casual play mode and tryhard instead of tryharding in Ranked gamemode, thus ruining the gaming experience for unranked players.
They should balance matches based on the collection weight. Like if someone has all cards/decks - they should be matched with those players because it’s stupid when a new player after several successful matches gets matched vs players with legendary card backs several games in a row (I had this, my friend had this). So it becomes an unfun experience.
Also it becomes impossible to farm quests if you don’t have friends but even if you have friends, they don’t wanna waste their time into helping you with “win x matches as specific class” which is understandable.
its not too easy at the start but since rasthakan in december i didnt spend a single dime on the game… (no wait i bought the hero pack with the storm guy because the vallue was very good)
but other then that i didnt spend money and i certainly didnt spend a ton of time on the game.
i opened 76 packs in ROS and 92 packs now. i admit i got lucky with the amount of legendaries but the majority of those i dont even use.
so far from the new legends i got i mostly use warrior quest and the others are more on the side line
if you dont miss out on your dailies and play a few games a day then it will bring you gold. but you have to be consistant.
if you loose then you will get paierd with easier match ups after a while.
important part is to manage your resources. im allready saving for the next expansion but i understand if you try to get your collection bigger in the start.
buy classic packs with gold because those wills tick after rotation. (learned that the hard way last year) then save gold so you can buy packs with that gold on the day the next expansion hits.
there is a ton of f2p and budget content on the internet like youtoube ofc (jeleniowatyy for example is a very well rounded channel for f2p or budget stuff) or hearhtpwn has a section of budget decks.
for example you can alwasy create a strong zoo warlock deck with nothing but rares and comons
there were a few people who even got to legend with those decks.
i recall a guy on hearhtpwn showing a zoo deck which didn thave a single epic or legend in it and he took it from 25 to legend.
he went about 250/180 (damn that guy was persistent) but he pulled it off
if you need tips on resource management just stay here in the forum and people can help you with your decks and help you improving your strategies
if youre one of those guys who dont want suggestions or not talk to people who have a different opinon then maybe make a forum which is not for open discussions.
so dont CALL ME A LIAR for trying to help you.
with this mindset you might as well go for another game.
In this game you have to pay in one of 3 ways
money
time
resource management
your choice but dont take your anger on others when you lack all 3 of those tings
Complains about how people have played the game for longer than them to amass a greater collection, while they themselves haven’t played 1 full year of this game yet.
Doesn’t seem to realise that Toad is giving GENIUNELY BENEFICIAL advice and, fuelled by arrogance, ignorance, anger and denial, accuses Toad of lying instead of admitting to the fact they are being unreasonable and incorrect
Wait, i have to stop you right there and tell you:
This game is not for you, or any other CCG out there.
You can’t hope that in CCG with playing game for few hours a week without spending any money on it, you’ll have all the cards. There is not a single CCG out there where you can do that.
2nd you are calling out a company because they are trying to make money? You do understand that there are people that need to be paid regardless of how good or bad game is? Shareholders?
3rd are you working for free or do you expect from your boss that he will give you a paycheck every month/week?
I see that people did try to tell you nicely what to do but you don’t care if they don’t agree with you.
And for the end, i’ll repeat myself, again:
In EVERY CCG you have to invest either money or time, period.
You are saying that you know that, but somehow i don’t think you do understand what that means.
If no one would buy packs, how long do you think the game would last?
i mean if i need help with my quests my friends always help me as i help them whenever i can
i mean i agree on the point why people taking their ranked high 1 tier decks into casual … thats … i … i dont get that myself … but anyhow
i even like the suggestion on the collection weight balance but not sure… it kinda smells like there would be downsides i dont see right now so im out of that atm.
but if you dont have friends and the “friends” you have dont wanna help you … it kinda tells something about you …
if everyone is harsh to you then maybe not the whole world is bullying you but its a little of your own fault isnt it?
i mean i was bullied in EVERY Class or School for my entire life. I could write a book on why that happend or why it developed that way but i came to realize that none of those other people phoned the guys im going into my next class or the next school and told them to do the same to me … so it kinda reflected my personal behaivour in some way and it led me to CHANGE myself in a better Person…
maybe try that. it helps
but if i read your post correctly and the Anger you put into it youre probably far younger then me so dont worry theres a chance you will get there.
it only took me nearly 1and a half decade to come to a realizaiton.
I have friends, they don’t play these games like hearthstone. And those friends I have in friend list are some guys who are too busy with their rank 1 climbing or haven’t played HS in a month and catching them online is problematic.
Don’t talk about other people without knowing some facts.
From your perspective its unfair. From my and most posters’ in these forums perspective, playing since 2k14 with a Season 1 cardback, having spent countless hours, energy and even money from time to time in Hearthtone, what makes you think we deserve to have the same card collection with you?
You’ll reap what you sow
That’s ^ how life works, that’s how games work, that’s how anything works. Don’t expect to be handed goodies without putting the least possible effort. Hell nah, you 're tripping.
I’ll just drop a unpopular opinion here: the game is expensive IF AND ONLY IF you want to build whatever you want to build. It is not expensive to compete in Rank. I played Rank with budget decks for months. It was only when I wanted to start building decks and stopped to try to rank up that spending serious money began. And thinking that to play Wild you need a lot of cards is just nonsense. The best deck in Wild for the past year costs about 9K dust and has barely changed, so no further investment. Imagine a full year playing the best of all decks without spending 1 single unit of dust…
I am fully aware that Standard top decks are now more expensive than they were when I started playing and I’m not trying to fool anyone by saying that it is as easy to build a good budget deck nowadays, but time put in the game, both to get resources AND to improve your gameplay still beats money.
Hearthstone is brutally expensive for collectors, Johnies and Timmies. It isn’t for players that want to improve step by step, grinding the ladder. But Hearthstone is relentlessly punishing to anyone that expects large collections without investment of time or money (or both) and assumes that a large collection is what wins matches.
Almost all F2P regulars in this forum beat me and my expensive and extensive collection. If money is what matters, then I’m entitled to my top 100 legend in EU, you hear me Blizzard?!
I don’t get this point… Arena is a very good way to play if you don’t have a lot of gold: you don’t a collection to play it and if you manage to get good at it, you can end up going infinite (even without counting dailies). The only things that can hold you back in Arena are draft RNG and your own skill. Not money, not time, not your collection.
Yet almost every expansion, there’s a streamer making a new f2p account and reaching rank 5/legend.
Keep in mind that there are several players that dust a lot of cards in order to make 1 or 2 meta decks. Their collection would be as small as a new players collection, so new players will still be facing netdecks.
As a final point, have either of you ever wondered why those netdeck players are still in ranks 20-15 or even below 20?
You know what, I’m gonna stick my neck out there and say…yes…it IS difficult for a completely new player get started in this game without spending money and it’s something I’ve had concerns about for a while. Yeah, it’s doable as Toad has shown. But it’s not easy for everyone.
I mean, when you start this game…brand new, you’ve got basically nothing! The basic set and that’s it. Now I have always said to players that, if you just log on for 20-30 mins a day and complete your quests you can rack up probably 7k gold per expansion. That’s enough for 70 packs ……which is a nice amount. Problem is, as a brand new player in the current game you’re already a minimum of 3 expansions behind everyone from the start. Now you’ve got to play the game for 3 months, with just the basic set, before you can get enough gold together to buy a decent-ish amount of packs with your gold…and you’re going to have to spread that around the minimum of 4 currently active expansions…while there is likely a new expansion hovering on the horizon that you need to save up gold for as well.
Simple fact of the matter is, without spending any money you’re probably looking at about of year of play before you get a decent-ish collection together.
What concerns me most about this is it’s going to discourage a lot of new players from sticking with the game
