Same here for both me and a friend. No information at all?
wow 1 month to fix one of you most popular modes wich implies that we cannot do 2 quests?are you waiting for more money with the bundles?or is it a new version of unity?
Had the same issue and also noticed that i can no longer spectate…
Until i tried it with Hearthstone on my (android) phone.
There i could spectate - tried it with 1 friend. Switched back to PC and could then spectate, too.
And sure enough - after his match was finished i could challenge him.
( I was in main menu and he was “searching for opponent”)
Cannot challenge a friend, this has been going on for some time, across diff clients. I’ve tried what’s listed above, alas, no luck. Please fix. Can’t spectate or challenge any of my friends 
Having the same issue. After both I and my friend have restarted the game a couple of times, we are able to invite each other.
So I’ve narrowed down my problem. It’s that every time I start hearthstone, it sets my privacy settings to all be unchecked. As soon as I activate Chat Messages, my friend and I can play together.

Tried installing the android app, same issue here, the privacy settings are unchecked. This made me believe it’s an account setting rather than game specific setting.
Went to my account on battle.net to verify settings, but everything is enabled except “Receive News and Special Offers about selected third-party products”.
Tried activating parental control to see if anything blocking there, same issue.
Changed to Americas (never played there), same issue.
I don’t know when the issue started since I haven’t played Hearthstone for a while (with someone). I did however noticed that when I played battlegrounds, it didn’t show the player names, it just showed the heroes name, which made me think it could be related to streamer mode (i may have had that activated at some point). But pressing ctrl + shift + s didn’t do anything

Same issue here on all of my devices (Macbook, iPhone, iPad). Need to restart HS and then sometimes it’s possible to challenge friends, sometimes not.

Still the same, impossible to challenge my friend
This issue is now solved for me as of the patch today. All privacy settings are enabled when starting and friend had no problem inviting me.

Indeed it seems a fix made it in to the recent 21.3 patch. Check out the full notes over here:
That said, it seems it can still occur in some specific situations, for which there is another fix coming in 21.4.
So hopefully an improvement for now anyway, but if you still run into problems just hang tight and keep an eye out for the next update.
I’m still having this issue. Reset password, logged in and out multiple times, did all of the “fixes”, but I can’t even see or message friends in the Battle.Net Launcher. Tried sending a support ticket, got no reply. Any suggestions?

Found this topic after it stopped being possible to challenge friends since today’s update to version 21.6.0.124497. When can I expect a fix?

Issue still remained here too. Cannot challenge, spectate. Same error message.
Same issue for me, can’t challenge any friend or spectate their game. tried to update version, reset password, uninstall, trying from pc or phone but none works.

This problem is back! (If it was ever fixed at all. First time I’ve had the “Play a Friend” quest in forever.)
Both clients are on the same version.
Other suggestions here have failed.
One client is Windows 10, the other a Samsung tablet, if that helps.
I have been having the same problem for SEVERAL YEARS now. Unable to challenge friends. During this time I have had different computers, different operating systems, pc vs phone, different versions, changed the passwords, changed countries, continents, etc. And I still cannot challenge friends. The latest is that whenever I send a challenge request it just says “declined” before the request would pop up on the other side. To say that having the same bug for YEARS is annoying is the least.
