Nexus anomaly FPS problems

TL;DR Rain and Snow make the match into a slide show

Longer story:
All major updates in 2020 shaved some FPS off. Which was fine to an extent.
Now the rain and snow (= the particle effects) cause my FPS to drop way below 60 and more towards 20.

The “stabiliser wheel”-approach of only running the game on one core-complex (1st Gen AMD Zen based system) is not helping as much as it did before.
The other crook I have the game on is Thread Wrangler which fixes some of the affinity problems and gives me ~10 ish FPS for a grand total of 30.

System spec:

  • AMD R7 1700x
  • 2x 8GB 3200MHz (running 2666Mhz) (Part: CMK16GX4M2B3200C16)
  • Sapphire 5700xt
  • Win10 Edu (build 2004)

Failed attempts:
Settings do not seem to matter. Rain and Snow just kill FPS, even when they are not displayed.

Thoughts:
The game (as is SC2) is obviously running on a single thread (as evident when looking at the “Thread”-tab in Process Explorer), so maybe it would be an idea to move all the system calls (HID, storage, network) to a 2nd Thread to have less context switches?

Apart from that, I am out of ideas (except throwing money at a faster CPU, which is a non-option).
