7 Year old account permanantly closed

My account of 7 years with over 1k hours has just been permanantly closed, the reason given in the email is violations of the code of conduct. I have never even had a chat ban, dont use voice comms, and limit my text chat usage and am especially careful with what I say as we are all aware of how strict the regulations appear to be.

If theres any chance for me to get my account unbanned I am open to suggestions. Thanks for any help.

Absolutely zero. I think so, but you can still try. My account is permanently closed, but this is not my first ban. But I got banned for 2 weeks, then a month and then completely closed.
If this is your first ban and complete account closure, maybe these are reports from other players about cheating. It is a completely automatic system. You will not prove anything. But you can still try.
I tried, it did not work.

That “violation” isn’t limited to just chat things. So might be behaviour or gameplay.

Just in case that jogs your memory for anything.

You can try appealing and keep badgering them. Won’t really get you anywhere, but you can try.

I know that theres no way to prove it but theres even less chance of it being my behaviour in game. I dont throw games or anything. Sometimes I can play bad but I have never inted or thrown a game so I continue having no idea. I havent even been playing frequently recently.

I went through this 3 times last year. First a 2 week ban, then a one month ban, then another, and each time it would say the same thing “violations of the code of conduct” and any time I reached out to support I would just get an automated email saying the ban will stay in place.

I have a feeling the bans were due to me typing in chat things like “team we gotta group up if we wanna win” or “let’s combo ults”. I don’t really use voice chat anymore in OW2 since the team comms has really gone down and whereas in OW1 I would find teams of all 5-6 players talking and having a really fun game working together, in OW2 it seems almost impossible to ever find a pub team where all 5 are in voice. So I just used chat.

After those 3 bans and basically taking half the year off from playing, I realized that it’s better not to say anything to anyone any more, even if it’s competitive and the point is to actually win and work together as a team. Ever since I stopped talking to people the bans stopped.

Just like in OW1, blizzard really doesn’t take much pride in their report system. It’s tick based so enough people report you over the course of a week for telling them to combo ults, you’ll get a ban and I believe that’s what happened. You basically have to play OW2 like an NPC, don’t talk, don’t have an opinion, and don’t ever tell your team to group up or combo ults, because the reports will start racking up and before long you have 10 soy boys reporting you just because they think “you’re taking comp too seriously and ruining my vibe, here take this report” and viola, you’re banned for a month.

Anyway, as I’ve said numerous times, they’ve ruined what OW was and are now finally realizing it and backtracking to 6v6. The report system will never be fixed. They couldn’t even deliver the PVE campaign when they forced us to switch to OW2, so I doubt the report system will ever be fixed and taken seriously. Like always, it’s tick based. You get enough reports for playing Torb, bam, account banned. It doesn’t have to make sense.

And the craziest thing of all is Blizzard is a multi million dollar gaming company. They could have dedicated a team to solely clean up the report system and review account before bans years ago, but it’s just not a priority for them, and this thread is just one example out of many where it just doesn’t work properly.

Yep. In exactly the same boat as you. Responses from Blizzard have seemingly been standard and/or automated, with no reasoning given as to why I got banned. It’s very upsetting. Best of luck to you getting unbanned.

Amount of reports against you. thats all it takes.

Incorrect.
It is amount of matches reported in. 1 or 9 reports in a match still only count as 1.

Eveyry one just block this Roku… forum troller that thinks his payed by blizzard.

Someone corrects you…

“Troll” “block them”… Pretty tedious reaction tbf.

Anyways. The report system doesn’t work on number of reports. Just on number of matches reported it.

Or to take it directly from Overwatch Devs …
“The effectiveness of a report is based on each match in which the disruptive player is reported. This means the report’s impact is the same whether just one or up to nine other players make a report.”

There’s no trolling. Just making sure you have all the information to hand to understand what’s happend to you.

It’s ok to be annoyed at being banned. But the first step to figuring out why, is to understand the system you’re upset with.

I just got a warning or whatever, first time ever in playing this game in almost 8 years for ‘inactivity and gameplay sabotage.’ I pretty much have only played support since 2022 but in the last week or so I was playing some QP (and only QP) as a tank to try it out and while some games went poorly I was never inactive or intentionally throwing, and last I checked when your gameplay isn’t up to par it’s NOT considered sabotage, how else are you supposed to learn how to play? Is there any way to defend yourself from bad reporting? I’m afraid to even play the game now for risk of being reported and subsequently banned for no good reason.

My 7 year old account just got permanently banned.

I think it was because a couple nights ago I tried 6v6 in arcade mode, loved it and wrote in chat “Bring back 6v6. FK 5v5!” lol It’s kinda childish when I think about it but I was kinda tipsy and having a good time and got carried away. Oh well. Once operation backtrack is complete and they bring back 6v6 to comp, I’m sure some youtube videos about it will pop up, and then I’ll try it again with a new account.

It wouldn’t have been because of that whitty one liner.

However, the report from that snappy quip might have been enough to tip you over the edge.

Who died? I didnt kill em. New player on the field?

I like them on sunset, if its not me then its not me.

Then I guess I was permanently banned for a few one liners too many. So be it

Same thing happened to me on this account, though this one isn’t that old. I haven’t been through the toxicity punishment tiers and I don’t cheat. Basically what you have to do is keep submitting support tickets until you get through to a human. If that human refuses to investigate, then keep submitting tickets until you get one who actually does their job.

Whatever you do, don’t go over to technical support if their websit/ticket submission isn’t working. The little “tech mvp” over there will openly mock you through a very condescending, poorly thought out paragraph then cry to the mods when you correct her who will take her side and delete all your stuff.

Is that true?

That is actually quite funny tbf.

Yeah, you won’t get your account back.
I have the same issue. Instant, permanent ban. After numerous tickets, a human finally responded…“malicious third party software affecting the game process” etc… erm… I have never cheated in my life. I am hard stuck Silver, and even reviewing a game or two will show you I am not using any software to give me an advantage.
I keep on resubmitting tickets, asking what I can look at or send them to show that it must be some sort of software/driver update or something that their system have mistaken as “malicious third party software”. Even sent them some screenshots of recent software and driver updates on my PC.
They just keep saying they have reviewed my ban, and it was fair and correct and will be upheld.
Now, that is fine. If they want to wrongly ban people who are playing fair and have never cheated, and people who are also mostly mild and respectful in chat, that is fine.
But, why do we see so many cheaters running rampant, making it all the way to Masters and GM. Why do we still see people, who are very vile and insulting, discriminatory in chats, etc. active months later?
A game that can’t even implement proper anti cheat and unfair play systems. There seems to be a lot of people who incorrectly get their accounts banned for said reason.

I do get it though, “you can have your account banned for any or no reason”. So they have a right to ban whoever they want.

Looking at it, none incorrect and even the couple that got over turned recently are just proof the anti works.

Something triggered the anti cheat and it auto banned the account. The fact that it got over turned show that they can review and adjust as they go along.

I get what you are saying, and I am no tech head or programmer, but should they not have a system in place that is capable to distinguish between true cheating software, and gpu or other driver updates or other normal software updates?

Then I guess having incorrect/unfairly banned accounts unbanned, depends on which “gamemaster” you get to help you on the day, and if they feel like trying to help you with which info they need or not.

I get that they do not have to help you at all. It is just sad that some people will do so, while others just don’t care.

I would have thought that they would at least want to keep fair playing members of their player base. I wonder how many of those “over 800 thousand” cheater bans, were accounts that got unfairly/incorrectly banned due to their system picking up driver or software updates, and mistaking it for cheating software. This does not really give any current or future players much confidence that this very same thing won’t happen to their account as well, and that their chance of getting someone willing to help them is not great.
