Account Closure? Why :(

Hi there, I’m usually a forum lurker but in the last couple hours I’ve decided to reach out to anyone else that may have had the same issue.

I only play quick play, custom games and AI on console (Xbox), but today I received an account closure for ‘ Recent activity on this account has shown various and continued actions deemed inappropriate for Overwatch.’ I have of course appealed this to see what could’ve happened as I don’t cheat, I don’t use voice chat and my match/team chat has never worked. I got banned whilst playing a Mercy Parkour custom game…

I truly don’t know what could’ve happened unless I’ve falsely been reported, as like I said I don’t do anything that could lead to a ban. Has anyone else had a ban like this? Does fighting and keep appealing work? I’ve played for 7+ years and I collect skins :c to see them all go was heartbreaking.

I should also mention I’ve never had a ban, temporary or permanent, or a single account warning in my time playing overwatch 1 and 2.

Many thanks. Very heartbroken :frowning:

Are you using a mouse and keyboard while playing on Xbox by any chance?

No, I’m controller only  I hate people who use xim and they detect things like that now

Good good thought I’d just check.

Then you’re only course of action is to appeal, and keep appealing and submitting tickets.

Worst that can happen is the totally ignore you. At which point, you can stick your middle finger up and take your business elsewhere.

I would love to keep my account after playing for 7+ years  hopefully they reply. I’ve asked for a GM to respond to my ticket with evidence as I believe an immediate account closure was extreme, before a warning or temporary ban :frowning:

Based on what they said, if true, that would be an immediate close without warning.

But, seems like it’s not true in your case. So id give it a few days and chase your ticket. Then keep doing that till you get answer.

Only thing I can think is have you moved house? Maybe they think you’ve shared your account with someone… Bit of a long shot.

I’ll keep waiting and being persistent. Thank you for your replies. I haven’t moved house and never shared my account either. Truly at a loss for words as my chats have never worked for the game since changing to overwatch 2 so I don’t bother typing at all. I do believe it’s probably mass reporting as I don’t think I’ve done anything that warrants an account closure. How frustrating!

The ban you got isn’t report based. Something would have just triggered it, either on your end or theirs.

Good luck!. Hopefully it is resolved fast

Do you know what it could be?

No idea, but they should tell you.
In a very far-fetched theory it could even be a CM running amok because he’s dissatisfied with his work place and about to get kicked out so he takes it out randomly on players.
This is super unlikely of course but so is your situation so why not… this kind of stuff happens “often” at companies that employees start sabotaging.

I’m honestly at a loss for words and still no GM reply on my appeal. I asked for account data and got it, nothing on my account is ban worthy. I feel like I’ve been treated absolutely horribly, someone really needs to take a look at my account

In the cases of people who were wrongfully banned in the past they usually had to spam Blizzard support with requests until they finally got through.
Only way to accelerate that was if it was a famous streamer in some cases.

As a last resort, there might be a legal way. Now I can already hear people typing “it’s all Blizzard’s property and they reserve the rights to close accounts whenever and for whatever reason they want to” but it’s actually not that simple. Image you buy a game (I know it’s F2P now) and the company immediately closes your account, so you basically just lost all your money. A company would legally NOT be able to cite their ToS/EULA in this case, it would simply be violating law. Now here the case is of course different, but there is still the matter of good faith (law) and fair consumer treatment practices, there might be a significant chance that instituations such as the BBB or other consumer support associations might be able to help - that’s basically the point why they exist.
So if you are at your wits end and spamming support doesn’t help you could still try that too.
Even if the case just gets cited on a gaming podcast or on reddit it could already be a success. In the past, as soon as Blizzard got “bad press” that was the latest moment when they finally revoked unfair bans.

It is the weekend. Probably won’t get a reply for a couple of days.

Very true, played overwatch for 7+ years and basically the only game I play as I work so much (with 3 jobs it’s hard to juggle time) but when I do all I want to do is play Overwatch. It’s sad to have such an unfair ban. I may look at a legal route should support just ignore me, my appeal is still open and I’ve uploaded as much proof as I can. Just hoping I get through to a Human at some point that can actually look at my account data file and see nothing I did was ban worthy (as I can see it for myself)

It’s great to know that I report players for constantly being toxic, i.e them telling people to unalive themselves, r*pe threats and much more… yet and I don’t so much as get a thank you for reporting response. The report system is heavily flawed and seems it can be easily abused… yet innocent people are receiving straight up bans? Even people who play on streams, don’t cheat, aren’t toxic, etc are wrongfully receiving bans. Without a suspension or warning first? Just because of salty mass reports??

All replies I see, seem to be the same automated nonsense. Would help if they had a helpline to call, but instead you have to persist through their bot system and push for an actual human to respond. Which can take weeks… months even. I’ve been reading so many of these cases and it’s just getting worse and worse, makes me not want to play the game at all seeing how players get treated. The quality of the games have gone downhill too, and all this just adds to it. Really hoping you don’t lose your account and an actual person can review the case for you, even a first time suspension is better than a ban. How incredibly harsh. It’s like they actually want to lose their player base who have supported them for so many years, ironic that we can’t get any support back.

Got the age old response of breaking code of conduct and still no one looking into it. We go again. Hoping I’ll eventually get through to a human for this massive error. I’m seeing more and more people getting the same email as me, some who are streamers who stream every game, but getting reported and banned as a result of this. It’s all over Twitter, and if you talk in big streamers chats, a lot of players have similar experience

People can report anyone for anything, they don’t need a reason and you will get banned. They won’t change decision.

How upsetting… 7 years of collecting gone

Idk on my end GM’s reply fast, had my email hacked and stuff connected to it taken, blizzard fixed it within 2 days, other game companies took a week but they also fixed it.

You should try live chat or ticket spam, they might take a day to reply and they dont work on weekends.

They are currently contemplating if they will retain their job or not after… the purchase.
