Bring back 6v6 in Arcade

and of the couple hundred, how many wanted to play 6v6, you would need 12 (5%) which i doubt, as most players play quickplay and ranked, then taking in timezones you divide that number by 3 as nobody likes cross-server modes, and looking at this image (although outdated a bit (why cant i add links?)
your best chance is in korea, and even then im assuming this server is mostly english speaking so i would make an esitmated guess its american servers, which have a distribution of 3.8 for workshop and ~5% for each arcade. ofc 200 players wouldnt fill a game easily. plus rage quitters who tilt after a game the chances of 2 consecutive games from just a couple hundred players in a niche gamemode is going to be rare, its a mode that needs to take a % from a large group of players

They were all on the “interested” list. So at some point they were all up for trying and over time that’s faded.

Maybe trying at the beginning of the new season is a bad idea and not a good sample. They did say they now have the biggest % of players playing rank than at any point in OW2 atm, so it would make sense if people would rather play that.

How so, where’s this information from? I’d be interested to analyse it.

go to steam charts, since OW2 release theres been a drop, currently looking for OW 1 stats, but sure there a huge drop

edit: statistica noted ow1 had a player base of 7 mil may 2016, and 40 mil 2 years later, however when ow2 was released the player base , dextero claims that number this past 28 days is closer to 24 mil, nearly a 50% drop

It is also massively up since Season 9 and only 40k players (I am surprised more didn’t take it up).

Compare start of OW2 to now.

Because yes, OW peaked well , but you are talking 40m in 2018… 3 years of neglect, there wasn’t 40m when OW1 ended. (if that figure is even accurate).

“The launch was so successful that Overwatch 2 has already achieved a daily player count peak that is nearly three times higher than the original. However, its transition to a free-to-play model will also play a part.” This was when it hit 25m in 10 days.

The also noted similar figures in their quarterly reports back in July. Although if I remember rightly is said “more than double” so take from that what you will.

All this is irrelevant. The post suggested that player numbers have dropped in OW2 by not bringing back 6v6… I am waiting to see a source for that information from the poster.

The info i saw only went up to may 2018

correct, there was years of neglect, and one of the straws that broke many peoples back was removing 6v6, now each player had to put in more work if one player wasnt up to scratch, how can 4 players cover a single bad player the same as 5, or even worse when 2 arnt on their best game, OW1 was 4 players carrying two, not it is 3 carrying two.

yea, the highly anticipated overwatch two, of course millions of players will redownload the game, as well as new players, but when the playerbase realised half the promised ideas were removed and the game was worse, there has been a huge decline, you cant deny that, what with new management, and companyh layoffs, this is the sign of downsizing.
6v6 wasnt the only reasons, but it was a main one, and if they left it as 6v6, i think the game would still have shrunk, but not as much

The current wave of layoffs in the gaming industry is down to over hiring during the covid period. There will be a lot more across the industry in 2024 sadly. Games are also getting far to expensive to make now.

So if OW2 had “25m players” after 10 days, roughly what does it have now?

So the last 30 days we are down a little. But that includes mostly season 8. So in a week or 2 it’ll be interesting to see where these numbers are. Interesting that daily numbers are massively up, so whilst overall numbers aren’t necessarily going up, players are playing more often.

But, and yes they should be taken with a pinch of salt, it would suggest that player numbers dropping is a myth, let alone associating it with 6v6.

honestly, i think its worth giving it a shot in arcades, and gauge the player enjoyment out of it. If enough players choose to play it to the point ints profitable, no doubt blizzard will readd it, especially as its now under microsoft, and theyve never ruined a game before (minecraft) literallty the only other microsoft owned game i play i think

There probably 250 million players active players

Well, use the quick play hacked event as an example.

They were asked why not do that in an experimental card/arcade mode. And the answer was simply, people wouldn’t play it, they would try it once and then crack on with what they intended to play.

It would have to be a full take over of quick play to get reliable data, but can you see them coming up with a complete reworking of the game for 1 weekend. Doesn’t seem like a good use of time. Especially when it isn’t your plan going forward.

They should just change back to 6v6 and rework the heroes to make it work. But that’s too much work for them…

What’s the business case for it?

can you show evidence for this claim, if no respectfull, dont make random numbers up, at least without stating “at a guess” or smth

tbf to him, at least he isn’t trying to claim player numbers are dropping.

just wait for overwatch 3

the only reason for player increase is the change to ftp and a minor bump for seasons and new heroes, 6v6 and PVE being cancelled / cut back created a huge drop in the playerbase, and i cant believe your siding w somebody who makes up statistics.
