Choosing Which Server You Want To Play Tutorial

Recently everyone knows that Blizzard has opened the middle eastern server, and that raised so many issues to middle eastern and European players where they sometimes auto-connect to either European or Middle Eastern servers and cause them lots of lags. I’m here to share my solution on how to have a choice on which servers you want to connect or avoid without using a paid service or VPN. Also, it can help Middle Eastern players that wish to return back to the European servers. Let’s get started.
In order for us to blacklist servers from auto-connect, we need to first block them in our PC firewall, I will show the full steps you need to do in order to do that
Before we start you need first to enable your firewall (Public Network)

The easiest way to load the firewall controls is the following:

  1. Use Windows-R to bring up the run box of the operating system.
  2. Type WF.msc and hit the enter key.

Once you have opened the firewall controls

  1. Click on Inbound Rules on the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security window.
  2. Select New Rule under Inbound Rules on the right.
  3. Select Custom rule on the next screen and click on next.
  4. Leave everything as is on the screen that comes up and click next (all programs selected).
  5. Leave everything as is on the ports and protocols screen and click next.
  6. Select “These IP addresses” under “Which remote IP addresses does this rule apply to”,click add, and enter the scope using these values
    Add these ranges:
    From: 157.175.0.0
    To: 157.175.255.255
    Then click OK
    Then add again
    From: 15.185.0.0
    To: 15.185.255.255
  7. Click ok, the IP range should now be listed under these IP addresses. Click next.
  8. Select block the connection on the next screen. This blocks those IP addresses so that connections cannot be established anymore.
  9. Leave everything as is on the next screen and click next.
  10. Name the new rule and add a description to it if you want.
  11. The new rule appears in the inbound rules list now.
  12. Now do the same to the outbound rules list.

Doing all this will help European players avoid connecting to the middle eastern servers, and will also let middle eastern players play in the European server with MUCH fewer queue times if they wish to play there.

If you wish to connect back to middle eastern servers then you disable the rules. Hope everyone finds this helpful and happy gaming overwatchers!

No problem man  glad it helped, better than other solution where you need to pay for VPN service and you’ll have to deal with gaming lags because of that. This permanently helps European players to avoid auto-connecting to middle eastern servers, and at the same time help middle eastern players return back to EU servers if they wish to.

Hello,

Just a quick question. What are these numbers? I’m from ME and want to switch to EU, does it mean I have to use different numbers?

Nope no need to use different numbers, just use the ones I put in the guide, since these are the ranges of ME servers and once blocked it will reroute you to EU directly. Make sure your firewall (Public Network) is enabled.

If i did that, is there a way to reverse it later?
like what if they fixed the servers, would it cause a problem then?

sorry idk much about these things, im worried but i want to enjoy the game again :cold_sweat:

Don’t worry it’s safe, you can anytime just disable the rules that you put to connect back to ME servers, and nope won’t affect you when Blizzards decides to fix their servers.

thank you! will do that

YOU ARE MY HERO!!!
i was about to quit the game too
thank you for posting this and sharing with us

What if I want to play exclusively in ME servers and avoid connecting to EU servers? I always get 150+ ping when connecting to EU. Is there a range to enter similar to the one you posted in order to avoid EU servers?

Yup it’s possible, I will update my forums soon with the ranges for Eu servers.
To block Eu server you need to put this range:
From: 5.42.100.0
To: 5.42.255.255

Now, I can finally play Overwatch again.

Thank you,

Hello, I tried this method on the windows firewall. My launcher is still connecting to the ME servers, and all the launcher posts are in Arabic. I’m guessing the game itself is also still connecting to the ME servers. I really want to switch to EU servers. Is there any way to fix this?
The mentioned way above doesn’t work for me.
Thank you in advance.

Make sure you followed 100% and also your windows firewalls on. Public network.
If you want to know which servers you are connected, just do CTRL + Shift + N and if it shows cdg or ams on top lefr corner, then you are in Eu.

I did everything what you say, my firewalls is on in public network and i uninstall antivirus apps but it didnt work w me <\3 ):

Make sure you followed EXACTLY like my guire, and you put the same range ip values as the ones I gave. You can check which server you are in by doing CTRL + SHIFT + N in a game and look on your top left corner, if it’s either cdg or ams.

I did it, the first time it shows “cdg” to me but when i play qp game i go to ME servers :frowning:
