Competitive matchmaking in a nutshell

Wait 5 minutes. Oh great, now we match you with four other people who don’t care about winning. Coincidentally the entire other team cares about the objective and cares about winning.

One sided matchmaking.

Yep exactly this. One sided matchmaking.
Been broken since OW2 - two years into this failed project and they still haven’t fixed it.

They actually acknowledged the one-sided matches on the new best of 5 maps. Keep voicing your concerns as do I.

That just the (poor) design of the mode, not match making.

It clearly is the MM

Even with some of those early changes to Clash, we think more tweaks are needed. Here are some of our current priorities (in order) for adjustments to Clash:

  • Decrease current stomp rate and number of matches with an extremely short duration
  • Incentivize attacking objectives A or E even more for the Attackers
  • Increase overall feeling of fairness
  • Keep Clash clear and understandable

Ultimately, we’ll be implementing a series of changes that can independently target different aspects of Clash while keeping the above priorities intact. Why are these priorities so important? Let’s take a closer look.

Yeah, it’s just the mode. For more context…

"Decrease current stomp rate and number of matches with an extremely short duration

No one likes it when queue times exceed your match time, and some Clash matches end very quickly. While Overwatch can be a swingy game, often we find that matches stabilize after a certain number of teamfights. Giving teams an additional chance or two to not get blown out will be quite healthy for Clash overall."

The reason matches tend to stabilise and swing back is because maps, and especially modes like push, are designed to eventually give the defenders such a huge advantage they’ll essentially be handed a fight win. It’s why a lot of clash games now just go back and forth constantly.

Let’s not just shoehorn empty “match maker bad” comments into everything, especially when it’s not the issue. Clash was just a poorly executed idea that they are trying to fix.

In other words you are still in denial. Got it.

Well, I think clash currently sucks as a mode and it’s not the match maker. They explained exactly why that is in the article. So take from that what you will.

Yeah I cba reading his essay of nothing. Match making is a problem, period. Just like in WoW RBG’s.

Whether match making is a problem or not is irrelevant when it comes to clash as the modes is fundamentally flawed.

As he Devs have confirmed.

That’s the tldr of the above.

Match making isn’t actually a problem anyways.

This thread isn’t about “clash”, it’s about match making. Please stay on topic, thank you.

Actually it’s perfectly on topic and a response to your friends comment.

The games design is what causes the onesided elements. And clash highlights that. As they addressed in the Dev update.

The thread said nothing about “clash”, so how’s that on topic?

Reading from the start…

The first reply…

Then goes from there. Unless you’re also telling bubble the threads not about clash then fair play, but it’s not me that brought it up.

Have a good evening. I’m in party mode after a great night at Villa Park.

They just have “Fix” it for all of the other maps now. “” because I don’t think it goes far enough to fix the one-sided matchmaking on the clash maps.

For push, yes, tweaks needed (although that might be map rather than mode, as the changes to Colosseo were a big improvement). I think the others it’s just the natural flow of the game.

Or as they call it, it’s a “swingy game”.

Nope.

The horrible matchmaker algorithms is what’s causing the onesided stomps because of how EOMM works.

Had this been SBMM, the results would’ve been far different because it would use our actual stats to determine the best pooling options when setting up teams. We would’ve gotten actual quality matches instead, in every elo, but since they decided to rig the matchmaker and use EOMM, we’ll never get any quality matches, ever.

Still pushing that.

Anyways. They explained what they explained in the update linked above. Not going to engage again on your conspiracy.

It’s not a conspiracy, that’s the thing people with zero clue say. A former Blizzard Activision Exec producer for IW (Infinity Ward) confirmed it in a youtube video interview. It literally confirms it. Overwatch 2 uses the same matchmaking system COD have been using for a long long time now.
