Failed to connect to server bug

[UPDATE]

Hello everyone!

We’ve managed to isolate a possible cause, and as a result, adjusted the routing to our servers so that the problematic spots will be more or less avoided.

It may be necessary to perform a relog (close both the game and the Blizzard App, then restart) as well as clearing your local DNS cache. [source]

I still wouldn’t recommend queuing for Competitive Play to further avoid any unwanted penalties or SR loss. Will send an update when the issues have been fully resolved. Also, be sure to keep an eye on the @BlizzardCSEU_EN Twitter feed.

:bangbang: [EDIT] Can confirm the issues have now been fully resolved. :bangbang: [source]

This (restart apps and flush DNS) works for me, thank you!

the comp is working now?

You might have gotten lucky with it. After my first dc I thought it was a one time thing, played 3-4 games and had the same issue again. Be careful

5 qp connects, 1 qp-game and now 1 comp connect. Seems to work in central Sweden at least  :slight_smile:

I’ll write again if my comp is sucessfull :))

Connection issues have been resolved. Thanks for your patience and sorry for any inconvenience. #Overwatch

Guess it has been resolved but nothing about any type of reimbursement. For someone who has never left a ranked game early I am kind of disappointed that I basically just lost 5 wins I worked really hard for. Oh well…

Thank you once more for all the provided details, it helped the engineers troubleshoot this issue and find a solution. If you are still having trouble connecting, please do let us know.

Have a few seconds to spare? Let me know how I’m doing!

I feel your pain buddy, I never once left the game mid match in comp, and yet we get punished for literally not doing anything.

City: Thessaloniki, Greece

Well thank you, for thanking us for helping you resolve your issue, what about our lost time/rating? did that also have been resolved? cause i see my rating as it was after the suspensions of your network’s problem.

Thanks in advance.

This just happened to me and it kicked me from the game, said I could rejoin then kicked me again and suspended me. It kept my on the opening screen showing your team and enemy’s.

It happened again. I just lost connection to the server. I did get penalty. So it’s already -150SR for me in two days just because of your servers.
I did check if internet connection was stable - yes, it was.

I’m starting to hate you so much, but I’m doing my best to keep myself calm. I know there’s no reason to flame, since I won’t be able to explain my anger because there’s no such words exist to do so correct.

Nah, they don’t care about that. We just have to deal with it…

are we going to get back the sr? losing 200 sr for sucha stupid game bug is not some easy to just deal with and go along

Hey there

If you have been banned, suspended, or lost rating from competitive mode due to a disconnect, crash or being unable to connect to a match, Game Masters cannot reverse those in any way, as those are an intentional thing for any disconnect or leave. Customer support has no ability to see competitive penalty status or skill rating at all, which means we cannot assist with SR loss or leaver suspensions in any way.

There is a good post on the reasoning behind the leaver penalty being so strict here: LINK DELETED including why even failing to connect causes penalties. Long story short for that, even if the disconnect is not your fault, if a player disconnects from a match it is still inconveniencing up to 11 other players, and so any reason for disconnecting is treated the same. If you have connection, freezing, or crashing issues it is highly recommended you do not enter any competitive matches until that is resolved.

There was an incident under investigation earlier today which was possibly causing some connections issues for Europe Overwatch which was being tracked here: LINK DELETED - This should however have been resolved some time ago and seemed to be a very temporary issue. LINK DELETED

If you wish for assistance in troubleshooting any connection or crashing issues you are experiencing, definitely let us know, and we can assist you with troubleshooting to find the cause of that issue! I would highly recommend checking the more common troubleshooting steps beforehand though just to make sure you’ve covered the major reasons for disconnections or crashes.

this is all I got back from web ticket… basically sorry, but it aint our fault…
