guess im deleting the game its literally unplayable. i get this problem every day and it bans me for 8 hours. ive never ever left a comp match before this. and i only play comp so i feel like my account became useless. farewell

I mean re-read what you wrote, its disgusting that a company feels like they can do this and get away, absolutely terrible customer service.
There’s plenty of different gamemodes than comp.
It’s likely that they’ll try to patch this in tuesday’s update, but until then the most you can do is avoid getting banned.
Just wait until tuesday evening before playing the comp mode. Do quickplay or custom games if you have to play.
If you keep trying to play comp before a fix, you’ll end up banned since it can’t connect to the servers because of the bug.
So in essence, my advice (not fix) is the only solution here if you’re attached to your account.
Exactly this. It’s also been several days since they said they’re looking into it and meanwhile more people have commented to say they’ve had the issue and yet still no message on log in to warn people there’s an issue that could literally get them banned from ranked.
It’s astonishing the level of lacking communication you’ll get unless you’re actively checking the forums constantly I guess.
Yeah so I had this happen to me like 2 min ago… que rank and was gonna go in practice and it just says Applying Update and then I got into a match and well i couldn’t do anything so had to close the game and now got suspended for 15 min only but still. Like all prob report me for smth i can’t control… love it
its gotten me and my friend suspended from competitive play multiple times and I’m quite sick of it ngl
Context of the bug:
when loading into a match a screen that says “Applying Update” appears and will not go away unless a relaunch of the program occurs however servers find that you have connected resulting in a competitive ban if it occurs while queuing competitive. even if the bug occurs whilst loading a deathmatch you are still added to comp for a competitive ban.

I’m hoping that today evening’s update includes a fix for this, but there hasn’t been an official statement to confirm it.
Sadly we can only hope that the devs find the reason for the error and manage to fix it.
I contacted Blizzard because after 3 days of consecutive “Applying update” bugs I got banned from competitive.
Their answer was:
“After checking I found that there were no known issues with our servers when you made the ticket, and we’re not able to provide SR back anyway.”
Either customer support does not talk to the QA/Dev teams or they are not informed on current issues. Either way, there should be a way to compensate people that get suspended and kicked back ranks because of YOUR BUG.
I did not write the code, nor have I tested it, why am I being punished for Blizzard’s mistakes?

The issue is not mine. It’s theirs, they’ve even posted a workaround for their own bug, but there was no message in-game or anything, am I supposed to check the Blizzard website every day before I try to play overwatch, just to see if there are any known issues that would cause me a ban?
Yes.
If you don’t, sometimes S happens, you’ve not lost anything. You can just play other games.
Go through the support pages. It clearly says they don’t. So best not to just play something else if it happens.

If it’s a bug. Then it isn’t a server issue.
So they weren’t lying and weren’t incorrect with their answer.
If you knew that people are still struggling with this bug, why did you keep trying?
The newest update only went live an hour ago with a possible patch to this. (I wouldn’t know if there is a fix now because i’m not playing today.)
The ban is your own fault for continuing to try despite knowing that things are broken.
