All you want is confirmation bias on some one that might be throwing unintentionally so you can report them for intentionally throwing, abusing the report system, and bullying players.
<snip>, all i want is for people to have the same profile as i do, the same way of easily seeing and communicating usefull information. I know that sort of thing is less relevant i your kind of tier prob, but it isn´t for me.
Besides why is it bad if you have the option too, if they can hide it from me, i should damn well be allowed to not want them on my team either.
Not a single other “E-sport” has stats private as an option. Cause that is not how competition works.
Side note, i can definently say i aint a person to throw fake reports, sure i report people who throw, i also report people who intentionally are ruining games.
I would like a “public profile only” filter in LFG (only when recruiting for competitive) but in any other case (solo queue, LFG for QP) I’m fine with private profiles.
You can create your own groups in lfg.
I mostly only join groups with open profiles.
If i join as solo player without lfg. I always insta lock dps. When i see at least 2 other dps have better dps/10 minutes then me i swap to what is needed. If not or there profiles are hidden i will not swap and fill.
I think hidden profiles are a big mistake.
True, rating and medals, win/loose rating, on fire, don’t say much but the damage and eliminations /10 minutes stat are a good indication on how good a player is.
A player who runs in solo a lot dies a lot even a genji who can kill 3 players every death. Players with better teamwork and positioning will live longer and most of the time get better eli/dam/10 minutes stats.
For example i will not join a group when i see on of the dps players that their main have <10k damage/10 min in gold. Or he played only one dps hero.
I am more close to plat now and i think when plat i will adjust this stat to 13-15k(not sure yet).
Because i started doing this i finally started to get out of gold hell. No more filling , just to see your dps sucks. And a lot more good games because I pay more attention to who i group with.
And it also increase may own playstyle, when i was around 10k a few seasons back on my main and between 6-8k on other chars. I am paying more attention to my surroundings/team(a good main tank to create space is very important and very rare in gold) and positioning and now i am over 16k damage on my main. And over 10k on most of my other dps chars.
Have you ever considered not playing a competetive mode, if you are not interested in cooperating as a 6 man team ?
Public profiles is the only way for very high ranked players to get information fast, easy and reliable. If you have to ask 5 players every single game, what they play, how much they have played it, what they can flex etc. There is no way to make it a team game. It becomes a huge Meme fiesta.
I know you like hiding your stats, all the power to you, but it is disgusting, that i am forced to play with guys like you. It is generally disgusting, that i cannot even have the choice of saying no to having you on my team for your actions.
It is beyond ridiculous, that they felt it necessary to add this feature, even though it helped nothing that it sought to fix. Overwatch is as toxic as it has ever been, yet it is way more disfunctional cause no one knows, when people are throwing on heroes they have no business playing or roles they cannot play at their level of play.
Sure if we had Role queue and role specific ladders, it wouldn´t matter at all. But we do not.
LFG is not usefull either. Especially for the few players in GM+ to top 500. That is too much effort to find players to play with.
Being forced to play what some one else wants you to play is bad teamwork, this is a team game that does’t mean that you the only one filling get over it, public profiles aren’t gonna come back, you’re in a minority.
Also if some one wants to one trick that’s there business private profile does’t equal one trick, one trick is just a way to spread hate to some one just stop.
You’re by far the minority, as i am advocating, i am talking a choice for high ranked players. No one wants the private profile at these ranks, it has no use.
There is nothing forced here. Again it is the collective good of a team, not the selfish individual. If you only played x role, you should play x role unless you are flexing.
If you were an attacker in football, but suddenly one day decided to try out being a goal keeper, what do you think your team thinks of that choice ?
If you are going into competetive thinking “I bought the game, i shouldn´t listen or do anything, that is in the teams interest over my own.” Then you sadly have no place in the mode.
Blizzard messed up with their implementation of the private profile.
Most peoples profiles, myself included are private, not because I wanted to hide anything but because that’s how the game altered it for me and I am yet to change it.
If they had left the profiles open and then told the community that they added the option to choose for the profile to be private I think the majority of the profiles would still be open for all to see.
The first thing i did when the patch came out
No hidden profiles!!
I filled a lot before that patch came out.
After when i got with players with hidden profiles i almost stopped filling.
I cant check if they are any good on dps.
I dont care if they main something else, since i am in gold.
(I have seen lots of main healers and tanks with still good stats on the dps heroes they play most after their mains.)
But i want all dps players have at least a certain amount of damage/10 minutes or/and eliminations/10 minutes on their most played dps hero.
When i join a lfg(with ofcourse open profiles) and see someone on the dps spot with low stats i leave. Same counts for other roles.
They gave us LFG to be able to chose the players to group with ourselves. So it is less random. But with the same patch they gave us hidden profiles so we cant even check out or team mates… Blizzard logic…
Option in privacy section to show only private > friends only > team and group only > everyone
Aditionally have option to decide what you show and do not show with aditional options to show what you interested in to make intrest based matchmaking a thing possibly in the future, this could include things like first second third languages spoken etc, heroes you want to play, team comps that you consider optimal for your current choice of hero pool, and team comps you do not consider optimal, then ai learning can just take over and keep track of win rates per team comp and decide for you after long play time and based on intrest in what heroes you play what team comps are optimal for you etc, while ai learning will always keep track of if you actually throwing under specific conditions and flag you for investigation by a game moderator aka GM.
Btw players that will kick players for private profile for groups will do that anyway, lfg option to set requirement for profile privacy could be implemented in such way that if you joined such group in lfg you get a warning upon joining that your profile will be visible etc, you can then decline to join or join and your profile be visible but only to that group, other then that it should never be a thing for outside group aka solo queue like for real, that’s not gonna happen they would instead just remove profile privacy options all together, that would create outrage.
I think in plat and below this is unnecessary but I haven’t played in higher ranks.
Developers often use machine learning only when necessary otherwise the results are difficult to predict - this can have serious consequences from a practical viewpoint (developer deadlines, customer service workload, etc…). The definition of “throwing” is also something that seems to be rather subjective.
Blizzard introduced private profiles to make it easier for someone to commit certain kinds of “throwing”. If I want to learn a new hero then do you want me to “throw” or buy a new “smurf” account? People have very different opinion on this. If you reached a high rank and can play only 1-2 heros there then can Blizzard force you to play only those heros from that point?
It’s even worse. If I ask for public profiles in the group title half of the joiners still have private profiles. Many of them don’t even seem to know that it’s private (the default setting) and we have to navigate them through the menus to make it public and then it often takes seconds for the servers to make it available for others and sometimes 1-2 players in the group still can’t inspect it - a huge waste of time for the whole group. If someone doesn’t want to make it public then we ask him to leave. If he doesn’t want to leave then kick. Some of them are begging to try it that way (NO, we create the group because we want to win/climb!). Some of those who get kicked for something try to rejoin about 20 times because there is no ban, only kick.
A lot of filters have been implemented already both for the joiners and the creators of the group: a group simply doesn’t show up in the list when it doesn’t match the search criterion of either the joiner or the group creator.
No they given that option because lot players bully others based on profile, like oh look this guy plays Brigitte he’s opinion does’t matter cos its biased etc, feedback is feedback and is valued equally no matter what, devs have systems in place to detect actual throwers, they are better at detecting them then a bunch of profile bullies.
I think there are a lot of players who like private profiles because they aren’t forced to play their most played heros. This isn’t a problem for some (mostly OTPs) but can be a problem for flexers and those who want to learn a new hero. And again, the definition of “thrower” is far from being clear. Until defining it well you can’t really detect them. Am I throwing if I pick doomfist because I want to learn him and I underperform? If you consider me a thrower than should I be punished for learning a new hero? If learning a new hero isn’t allowed by picking it then how am I expected to learn it?
Misinterpreted stats are also a common problem. For example this season I had pretty bad stats with my favourite heros on one of my accounts. It was an unlucky streak of bad matches at the beginning of the season. Some people could easily or intentionally misinterpret that info (like win percentages, etc…) in various ways.
How about you just let players play what they want, there ton of bad players that you never notice on a daily basis, and you worry about just 1 that has a private profile ? you just contribute to a problem much bigger then this.
Or, how about, I try to help my team a bit by checking out their profiles?
“hey madamada1, madamada2 has better stats on that hero than you do, could you go something like a hitscan since you seem to have amazing accuracy, but madamada2 is a better tank”
