Penalty for "leaving" game

Can you atleast stop penalizing people for “leaving” the game when you have issues with the servers?

Got kicked to the main menu during the Halloween mission = -7000 experience, lost a level in a battle pass
Then joined the game in the quick play mid game where i was the only one on my team, 30 seconds later - lost connection to the server, checking out battle pass = lost experience, and yet again, lost a level of battle pass.

The hell is going on, how can you penalize people for leaving the game if it is not even our choice?

Blizzard has learned nothing when the servers are unstable after every season update.

Don’t play until tomorrow. The servers are a mess during updates.

To be honest it really makes no sense to put a type of leaver suspension when someone will join your team anyways.

Nope, never. They’re hopeless.
No wonder OW2 flopped the way it did, and still is losing players.

i mean i sometimes get kicked to the main menu for no reason without the ability to join back the match, and it happens about 2 to 4 times a week (internet connection is super stable)

Strange. It might be a server side issue.
I don’t know enough about tech to guess about any of that though.
I just have enough experience about event updates since ow1 days to know that playing right after an update is a ridiculous thing to do.

There have always been server issues, disconnects and crashes during and right after big updates. It was the same at the start of every event.

Its so stupid and infuriating

Those issues are generally temporary yep.
When the server crashes, the match is “rolled back” so you technically didn’t leave because it stops to exist in the server.

That penalization is weird.
Also you might have left for sure at least other 3 games, otherwise it would not happen.

Its joining backfill games 9/10 times wich makes me want to leave the most.

I almost never leave the game, even if we are getting stomped hard (or whenever i join an overtime game just to finish the match 7 second later), as any completed game is still a + points to the progression on the character.

Thing is, penalization for leaving came straight after the first leave, which was strange.

I think the suspension from playing new games should be more prevalent as straight up deducting 7000 experience after each intentional or not leave is a bit harsh.

However, if it is only intended to do so after 3 abandoned games, it is fine, but that brings up the question, why it did so after the first game i got kicked out of?

Anyways, i doubt anyone from Blizz will take this seriously, as it is just another rant in just another thread on the forum. Just frustrating, nothing more.

P.S. People still leave games, even in comp, so there is that, surprisingly some people just don’t care about their battle pass being rolled back, as they presumably dont pay for the premium one with the real money (i do, i have a bad habit i cant combat in purchasing the cosmetics with the coins i get). What is more infuriating is to get the 20 levels of battle pass by buying the new Moira skin, just so 2 of those levels can be rolled back due to unintentional leaving. Sad, all i can say.

P.P.S. In case someone from Blizz actually read this thread, please fix the “Rejoin Match” button, or at least track that people are trying to rejoin the match they were kicked out of. 90% of the time it will not let you to rejoin with the “Failed to connect the game server” message, just so it can penalize you after (yes, if you will manage to click it while the game is ending, you will see the Progression screen as you have played it).

I have a mid pc and not so good internet for me first 2 match becomes laggy and if I get a mid match I cannot get out of spawn giving me 30 min penalty .I don’t play comp just quickplay .

Similiar to this thread AFK players in competitive

Options to resolve this, and consistent reports of leavers continually occuring have been detailed here.

Hopefully when MS uplift this game to be part of their Store, we’ll stop seeing Blizzard .Net issues - probably the worst idea ever to link a game connection to a client (but it’s Blizzard, so I guess it was their competency that driven this architecture).

Problem is, it seems that whenever you report players for using “strong” language, you will often see the “Thanks for reporting”, but for any other reason, it is less of a chance to see this screen.

I do report people who are either intentionally go out and straight up die in the hands of the other team, or just shoot and run back to spawn to not get kicked for inactivity, but so far, the most success i had with the report button is the “strong” language one.

I wish Overwatch team did something similar to the COD lobbies, if you cheat, you either have a funny side effects while playing or straight up queued with other cheaters.

The funny thing is, this behaviour probably also is due to the new punishment system. Or atleast more common.

I mean if you get 6 backfill games in a row into a team wich is absolutely terrible and has no chance of making a come back. Then you just want to leave. But would you leave and get that 30 minute suspension just because the matchmaking system keeps screwing you over by putting you in backfill?

I certainly wouldnt. So throwing the game is the fastest way to finish it, and then you can queue again in the hope of getting a proper game from the start.

You know, what people want. Having fun instead of being used as a janitor to clean up messes of other people

I fon’t understand the thought process here.

I always try my best even if it is backfill.
If it feels impossible then get some minutes in with a hero you don’t play often. That way you’re still playing, even if with a hero that you’re not that good with.

whats hard to understand? letting them win will maybe cost you a minute of your time. Prolonging the loss will cost you 6-8 minutes.

More than half games you get put into are backfill. Being expected to clean up a strangers mess is not fun. And with so many games being backfill the wasted time adds up.

I,m not a janitor wich needs to clean up other peoples oopsies. I am a player wich want to have fun in a proper match.

If i had the option to say no to getting backfilled then i wouldnt complain about being punished for leaving. But leaving backfill should not be punishable, but sadly it is. People don’t want to get a instant 30 minute ban because of horrible matchmakin putting them into endless backfill. So ofcourse they are going to take the way wich does not waste their time as much and does not give them a punishment just because the terrible matchmaking system does not allow them to have fun

I very rarely get backfill these days, maybe 1 or 2 times in a 6 hour session.
But even the nights when i get more, i just play. With even 2 minutes left there’s ample time to turn things around.

And as i said earlier

Practise something you’re super bad at or enjoy the satisfaction of managing to turn that “certain” loss into a win.

Sounds like a full game to me there.

well people who run out of spawn shoot and run back in technically also are playing.

If a backfill is winnable then i don’t mind playing. But with the absurd amount of backfill you get im not going to play a push the robot game wich hasnt started that long ago and their robot alredy is near our spawn. I say no thanks to trying to prolong that mess for 6/7 more minutes.

Whats hard to understand? afking and letting the enemy win will last maybe 1 minute in said situation. Trying to stop them and push them back wich is extremely unlikely will last maybe 6-8 minutes.

doing that once is fine but when more than half of your games you get put into are backfill then all those backfill matches will result in plenty of time wasted. Its not fun, and i certainly did not sign up to clean up other peoples messes.

I agree backfilling can be annoying.

If you want to avoid that and have a much more chilled experience. Just play ranked.

Weirdly, quick play is far more sweaty and try hard these days. The counterwatch mentality is very strong there. Where as ranked is usually pretty chill and fun.
