I think the title of the thread pretty much expresses clearly what I am talking about. Basically, a lot of journos believe that Sigma is a “Poorly designed” character. Not gameplay wise or anything like that, but they are outraged at the fact that he is a “Mad Scientist White Guy” essentially, and even recently, going on about how it is bad and wrong that he is “Barefooted” because “Muh offensive mental ailment stigma”.
Please, do not listen to those people. They aren’t interested in artistic design or to make a game better. They’re just there to ruin games in order to satisfy their deranged agenda.
So don’t retcon or redesign him, just because some estrogen-infused dude is offended by the design of a character.
In case someone asks “Why make this thread?”. I don’t know, I just felt like making it.
“But I don’t like his feet!”, Well I don’t like most of Mcree’s outfits, and yet I have to look at him. Point against his feet is moot.
“Why is he even barefoot at all?”, To that I’d like to ask a fairly fun logic question: If you were able to float, without the need of touching the ground almost ever, would you wear shoes just for the sake of it, or be barefoot for the sake of comfort? Think on that for a moment.
Basically, I don’t wish to see a character get redesigned due to stupid people crying about the current design.
as far as i can tell he does not have multiple personalities i think his brain is just wired backwards and forwards in time in crazy ways…
he get brain impulses from neural path ways that will exist in future… so he may get a mental image but when he reflect on it it’s no longer there causing him frustration… like constantly getting the impression of a song he has not heard yet… he thinks he should know what it sounds like but he has yet to hear it…
That is what i think happened to him…
He does not have multiple personalities he is just getting stray thoughts from future versions of him after working for talon more… or ocassionally stray though from when he was locked in isolation…
He has a perfectly sane mind… only it’s being effected by his future and past self… the future self being the most damaging…
As he ages if this hypothesis is correct he will stabilize and appear to be more sane as he has less future to cause him distress and confusion…
I don’t mind his feet from a lore/background point of view. I just don’t like 'm. I know, it’s personal, I have an iffy relationship with feet, especially from old men…
I couldn’t care less about his “appearance” or medical problems, or bare feet. I only cared about his actual game play and effectiveness as a shield tank.
I just find that he’s kinda boring to play as which I found disappointing. Primary fire and his hurling boulder thing are weak. His dmg sapping ability that gives him shields is ok but nothing new. The only somewhat original and unique thing I saw was his ult, and even that is just a mishmash of other abilities in the game revolving around cc.
I had high hopes for his actual kit and playability but it seems that his actual reveal and cinematic were more interesting than actually playing him.
That’s just me though, I’m sure others might love playing him.
I think in the beginning I would wear socks just because I’m used to always having something covering my feet, but after floating for a while I would probably stop wearing them.
Sure, UNLESS YOU’RE GOING TO WAR! If Sigma was floating around his living room I would understand, but being bare foot in the middle of battle is kinda odd
I feel like when you are essentially a levitating psychic badass, you have no real need for footwear… Unless you’re Achiles, then you may need some.
And even then, I find your argument a bit flawed. Saying “He is going to a warzone, ergo it makes no sense to have no footwear” is a bit redundant for a game that has characters run around in all sorts of attire. If you are talking about cinematics and comics, then… Well, Doomfist is shirtless, exposing a lot more.
This is a lot more fair in terms of criticism. At least it has somd valid game points, rather than some insincere moral babblings.
I know I think tribes like the Zulus, Aboriginals, etc have soles under their feet that are so hard that it’s almost like wearing shoes to some degree, just from years of living bare foot.
Care to provide an example? I have literally never heard someone complain about this. In fact, I’ve heard the opposite. I’m fairly certain blizzard made soldier like dudes just to quell the whole “MUH CIS WHITE MALE HOW DARE YOU BE PHYSICALLY WHITE AND HETEROSEXUAL”
