Sym's new ult a result of lazy design?

As a Zarya main, I hate it. I hate that she can just throw up an unbreakable wall every time I grav, meaning much of the front incoming damage is blocked, unless the team flanks and attacks from multiple angles. I just feel like it’s a wall, wow. There’s absolutely nothing exciting about it.

Am I alone on this?

Nothing particularly exciting about any ults. What syms ult could be described as is satisfying for the one denying the ult of an enemy.

The ult last only 15 seconds… so its not a wall that stays there until you break it, you can break it emidietly if you use an Sombras EMP too if the symm has just used her ult

Finally a zarya/hanzo counter that is not zen… I’m all for it.
Super good rework.
I dont like the alt-fire speed/dmg though. Too spammy and strong for that.

But… The dragon goes still through the barrier right?

Absolutely yes.

Hanzo can do whatever he please.

Didn’t see that coming…

Didn’t encounter much sym ults in these short days since its live. Even less sym ults protecting me from something. But this can have different reasons. What about defense matrix, does it block stuff if the sym barrier is between matrix and projectile?

The new Symmetra ults is basically a huge Rein shield that last for 15 second or goes away afther it has taken over 5000 damage or has been EMPed away by Sombra

Is it even possible without changing to a bastion junkrat phara comb, to destroy the barrier in these 15sek? Or is the 5000hp so high, you basically do the same when infrasight gets used, at a verry high lvl. you stay at spawn (behind the choke) and wait 15sek? (same was with the OP valkyre) just not worth wasting anything during this disadvantage.

well… 15 sec in not that long, and it’s not like you cannot walk though the barrier you know

Her ult is very boring design. A barrier is something that already exists as many heroes regular ability.

Her ult should have been an “energy pulse emitter” that deals small/regular damage over time to all enemies within a large radius around the emitter. This would act as a secondary objective for the opposing team and give flankers a greater role in games. This is essentially what we had with shield generator however I think a more offensive/damage dealing version of that would be more prudent in the environment we have now as there are more sources of health buffing abilities from Briggite.

didnt blizzard say they wont turn overwatch into shieldwatch ?

huh how things changed

ikr. I mean shields are fine, in proportion, so for example Rein or Orisa, I don’t mind them having big shields, because they’re big tanks, it makes sense. But this big wall/shield across the entire map just doesn’t feel like it takes much imagination, and it doesn’t fit sym’s role.

Idk, whenever I play her now I miss the shield gen/team teleport ultimate. It gave her a kind of purpose. This wall is just…a big wall. I’m still trying to think of where it’s really practical and useful.

Even Trump can build a more exciting wall, the size of it as well, seems like it was an after thought, a place holder.

It looks like old graphics glitches I used to get in sourced based games.

yup , every dps have offensive ult ,except symmetra for some reason

i think trump would be proud tho

MAKE OVERWATCH GREAT AGAIN !

support symmetra to build a big wall to keep the throwers and trolls and your hopes and dreams out of overwatch

It is a less than stellar change. An ultimate easily dealt with by employing the masterful tactic of bloody-well walking through it, stop me if that sounds to complex, is not much of an ultimate ability unless the next match is against a gang of legless war veterans but even then they could just wriggle through it… or just wait the pathetic 15 seconds… why does this barrier exist again?
I like the rework a lot more than most, it seems like a more fun way to play her and fun is what it’s all about, I will even put up with her faster light-ball which just aren’t as satisfying as the old way but the barrier? It feels like the could have just made her ultimate ability the shield generator which is more practical in almost every way and is not overcame by anything which has mastered walking.

See? You got the point. The barrier forces repositioning, and the part about barriers you seem to be forgetting is that they not only block damage, but healing too. Only a foolish tank would walk though the barrier and cut himself off from the healer(s) and you sure need to have a deathwish as a healer if you position yourself next to the tank rather than behind them.

Don’t know if Reaper’s shadowstep or Widow’s grapple work through that thing, but regarless of that, being able to essentially pause the fight and stand your ground while waiting for your respawns appears to actually be quite powerful.

But how is sym countering it?

You get gravd with your team, sym activates her ult infront of them to shield but hanzos ult still goes through.

The world doesn’t revolve around freaking Hanzo. There are wonderful things you actually can do with barriers, like this:

It’s the kind of stuff you come up with while you’re rolling your thumbs and wait for things to happen.
