Treatment Of Overwatch 1 owners

I purchased Overwatch 1 Legendary edition quite a whiles before overwatch 2 came out and when it launched I was given the impression that because I owned the first game I will continue to receive new characters for free yet despite that, now that Ramattra is out I have to grind a (what I consider to be an awful) battlepass for a character that should be given to me and others who owned the first game, I am honestly appalled as to how new characters are being handled locked behind an arduous battlepass with horrible rewards unless you purchase the premium version, by making the system to acquire new characters like this, Blizzard is actively invalidating my purchase and it feels almost scam like, I am quite upset that my purchase of the first game is now completely meaningless, I am honestly starting to hate blizzard and overwatch for all the horrible changes that are taking place regardless of purpose or reason, I simply find it unfair that my purchase now ultimately meant nothing.

Lmao how about you listen to what the devs told you. Kiriko was free but not the Heros after her

You bought access to a game. The game changed after 6 years.

Like it or not, it’s definitely not a “scam”.

Same as treatment of OW2 owners… godawful.

It could be described as a scam considering that it was originally promised that all the heroes would be free (back in overwatch 1’s release)…

I’m not happy either with heroes locked behind pay/grind walls. I think you should just get the new heroes right away. Other games like Fortnite has shown that you only need to monetize cosmetics to be a financially successful game. I think most people buys the BP anyways mainly for the cosmetics so I don’t think removing heroes from it will make any major changes with the amount of people purchasing it.

Oh, that’s interesting. I didn’t know that was a promise. Is it just a memory or do you have a link for that? If no link I’ll have to spend a lot of time looking it up, it definitely sounds like something Blizzard might have said.

If that’s true you have a point and I wouldn’t be opposed to agreeing with you (on a moral level, not legal, of course).

While I won’t call this whole saga a scam, it’s left a sour taste in many people’s mouths and it’s easy to understand why.

But like others said, we didn’t buy OW1 as a game we get to keep like in the traditional sense. it was like loaning a car, a long term lease if you will. And while we loved that car that we leased, it has to go back one day, and then a new version comes out. We can either keep leasing or move on to other car manufacturers or means of transport.

OW1 was a long term lease that I loved for 5 years. I don’t like this new updated version as much but hey that’s life. Blizzard have to make money and this is the best they came up with. I can either keep playing or find something else that does it for me. Calling it a scam though isn’t right, technically and legally, it’s not.

My 2 cents worth =

  1. We can’t have constant free updates to any game after the initial purchase forever, it doesn’t make business sense, so I get & agree with buying cosmetics.

  2. Heros locked behind a pay wall = A dangerous path, if corperate greed creeps in u get a situation where the new hero is a must buy as it’s so powerfull. You Buy it, then a few patches later it’s nerfed and becomes an uncompetive pick under the guise of ‘Balancing’ then rinse & repeat. Hey presto a few months after that the next new hero is OP & again a must buy to be competive. Walk this tightrope carefully Blizz lest ur game become pay to win…

P.S. When are the OWL Team hero skins coming out for the new heros?
Yeah & why are they 50 OW tokens dearer than OW1 tut-tut :rage: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
This is a prime example of corperate greed already creeping in!

Blizzard are simply abusing the fact that most countries don’t have robust, consumer protection laws with online media.

They are a predatory (both business and workplace) company, that have no qualms maximising profit by abusing human psychology and consumer laws.

The only way to affect any kind of change as a random person, is to stop supporting them. You have to completely give up on the idea of Blizzard being a company that has anyones (even their staffs) wellbeing at heart. It exists for money to be funnelled to shareholders and nothing more.

You are the product.

But kiriko was not free. i owned ow 1 and i still had to unlock her. So stop talking out of your rear end.

And it does not change that its a terrible idea. New heros are the reason people return to the game after a while. People finding out they have to buy a battlepass or grind for weeks to unlock it makes them bugger right off again to other games

Tell that to Grand Theft Auto 5/Online. Sure they re-selled the game for new consoles with updated grapics, but other than that Overwatch more than supported its cost through Lootboxes, the same way GTA 5 has its main source of income from sharkcards.

Note: I don’t think micro-transactions are bad. I’m saying FORCING people with 8 months of grinding for a single legendary skin is whats scummy. We should be able to earn at least 2-3 legendary skins of our choice each season. I don’t care how they do it, give us item tokens instead of coins if they don’t want us to be able to buy the battle pass for free, but not being able to get anything we want ONLY what they decide they include in the battle pass is straight up cheating people out from the original game’s experience

They’ll prob put these ‘behind a paywall’ cosmetics on the shop sometime down the line for one of the currencies, like “Special limited offer, don’t miss out. Only 10 days left!” or whatnot.

Altough they’ll prob be for way more than their actually worth (Edit- “they we’re originaly worth”)… How much do you really need that item in your life that u missed / couldnt get

You mean more than they are currently sold for.

What they are worth is what someone buys them for. If people in this community keep paying these prices, then blizz win.

Stop buying the stuff, the prices have to come down.

So like every sequel/expansion to a multiplayer game. They never said you’d get new heroes for free as soon as they’re released but you can still get them for free you just don’t like how long it takes.

You got 6 years worth of free content out of a ÂŁ30/ÂŁ45 game, your purchase is not invalidated. Can you play MWII multiplayer for free just because you owned MW2019? No, you cannot. At least in OW2 we actually get to keep things we unlocked in OW1 instead of a complete reset.

not a clear promise but heavily indicated…

Hero’s are still free, so there is literally zero legs to that claim either way.

Hero’s are only free after you have unlocked them through grinding the game more than 2 or 3 weeks. People maybe don’t want to spend their whole free time only playing OW2. If in the future there are a new OP hero in the BP, you could be at an significant disadvantage if you play competative while you yourself or a teammate hasn’t unlocked the hero/heroes.
Blizzard has also multiple times showed that it can take some time for them before they nerf heroes, sometimes months.
The issue are that people who haven’t unlocked heroes can still play competative giving the team that has the op hero/heroes a big enough advantage that they win the game.

True, I am in this boat. To them I say, they are no longer the target audience for this game.

So just play for fun and you’ll get what you get.

As for balancing, yes it can take awhile sometimes. This is mostly down to Sony. Because of them it takes a minimum of 3 weeks from patch being submitted to going live. This is why they introduced the hotfix system the other week which should speed something’s up, but big patches will always take time.

There is no real competitive disadvantage if you don’t have the new hero. Unless you are a meta sweat, then it really doesn’t make a difference.

All heroes should be free and unlocked instantly for ow1 and ow2 owners, the whole game is built on counter picking, its annoying when the enemy team is playing a really good hero or comp and you or your teammates dont have the hero to counter them
