Why do people think Brigitte is OP?

I mainly play heroes like mercy and Moira, however I am starting to play Sombra, And I can’t help but ask, why is everyone claiming that Brigitte is OP?

Sure she has high damage, but her healing is laughably bad, most of the time I don’t even notice her healing me with her aura, not to mention that she is so predictable, if she is slowly closing in on you, it is immediately indicating that she is going to shield bash you, then you have a variety of ways to prevent it since she moves like a snail with her shield up.

every time I see a Brigitte on my team, it really bothers me, because they most likely think that she is op, but she really isn’t…

…if anything, she is more annoying than OP, simple as that

Because we play other things than 2 supports who either don’t have to engage her or simply run away from her.

Its the same deal as junkrat, Mercy one tricks never believed he was too strong because they never had to deal with him head on. Meanwhile they were crying and moaning about Genji because he was easily bypassing the front lines and hunting for them.

Maybe, but as I just stated, I’m playing sombra as well, and even then I rarely ever have a problem with her

That must be QP, QP really doesn’t matter as far as character balance goes.

People still play aggressively on QP, so people would still have problems with a Brigitte

It doesn’t matter how they play, QP is mostly deathmatch and filled with snipers while having no organization and proper team comps. This makes Brigitte appear weaker than she really is.

She doesn’t have high damage. She has some burst damage, but her overall damage is in line with Lucio & Moira.

Brigitte is not OP, that’s why she’s only seeing 24% usage in OWL. Well, assuming we’re considering balance at the highest level of play where people are playing with lots of money at stake and anything else is about players improving and adapting.

The only numerically overtuned part of her kit was armor provided, hence the ultimate nerf.

I feel that people get ‘OP’ and ‘Annoying’ mixed up sometimes:

Annoying would be that they just get on your nerves

OP would be that they are capable of taking down any one with ease

The only thing Brigitte has that is considered ‘OP’ is her shield bash, and even then it is so predictable that she is going to use it

Are you playing tanks by any chance? Having your character bashed and thrown around all the time? You do realize characters do get nerfed because they are being annoying as Roadhog more than proved?

So yea, her major issues is the same as before - while she counters flankers she also counters tanks, a class she has no business countering. Tanking right now is a joyless and thankless experience because of her and there is no reason to mince words on the matter.

Yup, some people think Bastion is OP too. Bastion is annoying when used somewhat competently against a disorganized team but hardly OP, more like UP. Some people don’t want to admit their own flaws so they blame the game balance.

Because she can just waltz into most engagements, pressing W+LMB. She provides a lot of value very easily (almost independent of player input) until you confront skilled opponents, basically Symmetra 2.0. She can heal AND shield AND use CC AND provide armor, whilst most heroes in the game have 1 or 2 of those functionalities.

The problem with Brigitte is her effectiveness against people engaging her in close range, mainly bad and average players. If you keep your distance, if you have a lot of heroes with burst damage and range and AoE, she cannot do anything and will usually just feed ult charge.

Also people always perceive stuns as OP. Roadhog hooks were the bane of most players for several seasons until they nerfed him hard. Reinhardt pins would be considered OP as well, if it weren’t for the fact that most Reinhardts are not very good and 5 charge kills/10mins is considered top 5% (on top of the fact that it is inconsistent and should not be used regularly).

Brigitte is a hero that you can mindgame to death. You can’t mindgame getting double-tapped by an insane McCree and you can’t mindgame the dreaded RMB triple headshot+Shift instakill combo by Genji, or taking a damage-boosted Pharah rocket right to the face as Tracer. You have to avoid them or dodge. But Brigitte you can beat before she starts smashing into you - and you have to because almost nobody can miss with her kit.

Because it’s apparently easier to complain on forums than to switch to a counter.

Second highest win rate, fourth highest pick rate in competitive. The place were we actually play the game. It’s well and good to balance the owl but that doesn’t mean jack for the actual playerbase

That comes down to what you should balance for, because not all balance works for every skill level. I personally would argue competitive should be balanced for the highest level play, but other modes don’t necessarily need to be. A one size fits all approach doesn’t really work.

Sure but there is a difference between balancing for the highest lvl play and the owl as they are drastically different.

Is OWL not the highest level play?

Yes, it most certainly is but Grandmaster is the highest lvl of play for the community. You’ll most likely find that there are Gm players that can compete with members of the owl in terms of skill but they’d be at a drastic disadvantage if they played a match in the owl.

Ummm, no Top 500 is the highest lvl in the community / ladder.

Okay, same thing applies
