Why is it so easy to lose rank, but not gain rank?

You really are some special little guy hahaha.

“Joined 24 mins”, sure a few hours.

Seek help dude, you’re just making an idiot out of yourself now (again)

Thanks for clarifying who you really are.

No, I didn’t.

I said that because of RNG people initially usually place lower than their actual rank.

You turned it into…

… which is something completely different than what I said.

All players are affected by RNG but the better personal skill the better chance to combat the negative effects of RNG. It’s clearly visible in premade which have the best chance to rank faster and higher because they bypass part of that bad RNG by cherry-picking their own players so you don’t need to worry about ppl being AFK, trolling, leavers, etc.
Premade only loses when they lose RNG roulette and get people better than they are where solo Q people can lose simply because they get bad teammates.

No, you don’t. The only people who get back to their rank in the new season are people who premade with people on their own skill level and even then they can easily be placed a rank lower.
Every solo Q player is subject to massive RNG roulette which gets worse the lower the ranks are. You can easily have leavers, AFK, trolls, and so on and it’s enough to tank your ranking to the point of being dropped a few ranks.

No, you just need to solo Q for placement and get bad teammates which will tank the games by trolling, quitting, being afk, or just being bad and you will get placed in lower ranks.

Seems like the only thing leaking is your intelligence

aka being a better player. Nothing to argue here thats what I’m telling all along.

Dude, do you even play this game?? Sure you can drop rank lower when you were on the brink at the end of the previous season but this should be obvious anyway.

so does the opposing team, they have to deal with the same crap giving you easy wins to shore up. So its almost a net zero argument.

Good to see you abandoning your sinking ship and cherrypicking something just to agree so you don’t look completely stupid.

Anyway, RNG is still mostly dictating the rank so my argument still stands.

Ofc. and what I said is a conclusion of what I saw and experience myself.

Cool, but the argument was what decides your rank, NOT whether another team also has to combat the bad RNG :man_shrugging:

your performance and ability to deal with a team game you’re playing.
Otherwise everyone would be just gold.

RNG has a major impact, personal skill has minor impact.

In a nutshell, your rank is decided mostly by positive or negative randomness, and then it’s modified a bit by your personal skill which creates the difference (ranks) between the players.

Since rank is dependant on whether you win or lose, your skill can’t be the major decider because you are (on average) only a 1/12 (8,333%) of the whole input in the game.

weird, I perceive the skill difference of people I play against as huge between 2 subsequent ranks, so I’m not going to agree with your view on it.

We are argueing wheater your skill rating is the same as your skill level… which is not.

Also. fyi, the way it is set up now is that the skillrating system works better* if your “medium skilled” as there is a higher player pool that all share the same skill level, thus there is an “equilibrium” due to the many players that share the same player skills.
*(still not anywhere near satisfactory)

Thats perhaps why some people >feel< that the skill rating is working and others do not >feel< that its working.

feels are a subjective feeling, so lets stick to math.

maths say:
the skill rating system is poor at evaluating individual skills when those individual solo que. in solo que rank does NOT reflect your player skill, whatsoever.

Thus ranked games with 12 soloque:ers are pretty much never going to be an “even and fun game”.

thats cold hard facts…
if you feel anything diffrent, thats cus of the above… you have same skill that alot of others has aswell.
pretty much anything that is “competetive” about overwatch is just a big joke and when the rank system behaves like this… well this is reflected on the 50 viewers on the “pro” overwatch league games.

+1

you are apart of the >big group< of players that all share mediocre game skill, thus, the ranking systems works somewhat for you…
so now you know why your feelings on the matter is not important for this discussion.

Yeah… ANY team game out there, >that rank the team and not the individual players.<
overwatch rank is suppose to be a individual benchmark. it is not. Thats the point.

im guessing 3-5 games… which is totally possible scenario.
also… “drop multiple ranks” … like… why are you not asking a neutral question like: “drop one rank?”

yup. +1
thats becouse the majority of players are “mediocre rank” aswell as the ranksystem that adds a “difficulty modifier” in the ranking system… so the rank system actually works double shifts to keep people down.

i often play in diamond at some point of the season… then end up in plat… funny thing is… i’ve seen top500 players in my “diamond” games… its not rare at all. And when you lose that game… well your in platinum by default.

i cant see your profile, so its hard to know what 2 ranks you talk about…
ok i see you talkingg about feelings etc… which is subjective af.
so i chip in with my feelings…
I frequently see top500 players in dimaond… and i do not feel there is any skill difference between plat or diamond.

i feel like the closest/evenly matched games and the most fun games i have, every season… is in fact “the 10 placing games”.

YOU ARE THE SAME RANK AS ME

So your “feelings on the matter” are not important either then, based on your own logic.

Your SRs are 2214, 2409 and 2239.

And don’t talk about open que… there isn’t enough people playing it to get accurate games 100% of the time.

(post deleted by author)

  1. we are NOT the same rank.
  2. all you talk about is your feelings, you never state any proof that back your claims up.(althou you always make sure to ask others for proof, obviously as a way to stall, as you dont really care about the proofs that are given).
  3. your an emotional troll.

also fyi

We are not the same rank, im 1000 pts better then you. thus, as previously explained… and totally ignored by you…

there is enough people at your rank, so the margin of errors are decreased enough to make THINK that the ranksystem is “ok”.

when you get higher up, the player pool are thined out, and the ranksystem are more pprofoundly irratic and troublesome.

also fyi.

when i talk about your skill lvl and my skill lvl, im obviously talking about how good we perform in a group of random people, as rank is not an tied to individual performance.
and also evident on your social skills in this topic, always talking about your needs and your feelings, and never care anything about facts or even other peoples feeling.

The simple answer to you question

There are 2 sets of metrics in Overwatch, SR, based on win / loss and MMR based on your statistics. In a nutshell the game wants your SR to to be as near as possible to your MMR. so lets say you have an SR for some reason above your MMR you will get less SR for a win and more SR loss for a lose. It also works the other way round, if you decide to not play comp for a while and get better at OW through playing QP, as you get better your MMR will get higher so when you go back to comp and play, your SR will be way below your MMR, now the game wants your SR to be higher to get near your MMR, so now you will get more SR for a win and lose less SR for a loss.

i think it’s simply due to win ratio, the higher you get the higher win rate you will need to maintain to stay at a rank.
hence why very often very high ranked players get a bit miffed about needing to carry games that could set them back a lot of SR because the players in the game on both sides are lower ranked than they are.

but yeah MMR and SR are 2 different metrics that control how much you win/lose in terms of SR for each game, if you play well consistently win or lose your MMR will rise which will make it easier to gain SR and harder to lose SR and equally the reverse will happen, if you play badly and win your MMR will decrease making it so that you don’t gain as much SR and lose a lot more.

because MMR will try to pin you at a certain rank where you should belong and that only comes with a lot of games to average out the numbers where you should belong.
how we know this is because SR is at first explosive and rewards you a lot more SR for wins on a new account than it does on an older one because it is trying to quickly situate you at a proper rank without making you have to face enemies that you can face roll for a long time until you hit the rank you belong to.

and as such the longer you’ve had the account the harder it will become to change the MMR the game have decided your account should be in and makes it equally as hard to gain rank or lose rank after a while.

that’s why a lot of players who are stuck in a rank sometimes decide to buy a new account to try and crack that rank to get higher much quicker than needing to play a ton of games to basically impress the MMR to push it higher so it would start rewarding them for winning again.

you lose more points when losing than you gain when winning.
Competitive ranking is purely based on the team your are in. Sometimes you are in a great team that wins easily and sometimes in that trash team that can’t get out of the spawn room.
I used to group up with players before competitive and that gave me a lot of victories. But being randomly placed in a team has given me a lot of looses.

Only if your SR is too high and you are not performing to that level.

Because overwatch is pretty much like a game of monopoly ,meaning “Aws you lost 2 but won 2 also? Well… YOURE STILL IN THE F*ING RED YOU DUMB A WHY DO YOU EVEN TRY TO PLAY OUR GAME YOU GARBAGE!” need I say or explain more?
