Your Rendering Device Has been lost error frequently crashes games

Hi,

My settings in Overwatch are already in low and I’ve tried many solutions from the main thread about this topic to no avail.

Please can I have some technical advice on what the issue might be?
I’ve pasted my MSInfo and DxDiag below if that helps.

Thank you

Hello Shinee,

Please note that necroposting is against the forum rules. If you see a very old post that mentions the same problem you are having, create a new thread where you may refer to the old post. I have now locked the other old thread you bumped.

With this said I checked your diagnostic files and first seems you are using Bootcamp to run the game through a Mac system which is not supported and may give issues that we cannot completely troubleshoot.

Keep in mind this error also happens when the graphic card is not receiving sufficient power. Generally, this seems to be caused by, Insufficient PSU (power supply unit), Failing PSU or improperly seated GPU.

  1. Check to make sure the PSU has enough wattage to power the hardware in the PC, especially when the GPU is under load.
  2. Make sure the GPU is properly seated.
  3. A local computer tech can test the PSU to see if it is failing.

Try also to reset the Overwatch settings as some setting maybe incompatible with some graphics cards or monitors.

This type of crash can be also caused by overclocking, overheating, software conflict and corrupted or missing Windows system files. So try the steps here.

That happened to me on my old PC aswell and my friend said it might’ve been the motherboard not being able to keep up or smth. I dont know alot about specs and all, but maybe look it up

I asked about this issues and got a response saying to use pastebin to send a link here. I got an error saying that my pastebin file was too large. Unless I’m missing something and there’s a different way to upload a file to pastebin, I don’t think the website provided will work for me. I made those MSInfo, DxDiag, and WinMTR txt files though.

Hey Phrygia,

You just need to click the Create new Paste button on Pastebin with your text file inserted in the section above it, then you don’t need to download any file or upload anything you just need to check the page address and copy it here using the preformatted text option you have in the forum response window (</>). The link should look like this https://pastebin.com/kU6WVgTw . Then we basically just follow the link and pick the file from there

If the problem happens when you are trying to Create the new Paste on Pastebin then you need to cut your system file in two or three parts and save those separately on paste bin creating a link to each part we will then rebuild it using the links you will provide

Thank you for your help

Hey Phrygia,

Try this first as we have to be sure your machine is using the main video card when playing the game:

  1. Right click on the desktop and open the Nvidia Control Panel
  2. Click on Manage 3D Settings on the left
  3. Go to the Program Settings Tab
  4. Browse and select Overwatch using the dropdown menu, if the game is not present there click on Add and select Overwatch.exe to add to the list
  • If there is a drop-down menu called Select Preferred Graphics Processor, choose High-Performance Nvidia Processor. This drop-down may not always be present
  1. With the program selected check the Specify the settings for this program option ensuring you are using the Nvidia card for the various settings and selecting Prefer Maximum Performance in the Power Management mode

With this said it seems the MsInfo is still missing lots of data did you remove some parts of it? If yes we need everything, to provide you the best course of action. So if the above solution doesn’t work (including the ones posted before). Please provide the full MsInfo even if you have to cut it in 10 parts is fine.

The WinMTR trace seems fine with no problems there

I believe I got the MSInfo according to the steps I was provided, but I did it one more time.

edit: I also did the steps you provided; it was defaulted to “use global setting (optimal power)” so I changed it like you suggested

Hey Phrygia,

Thanks for the full files, I guess with the changes suggested the problem still persists, so something to try in order to fix is to remove the following programs completely if possible:

  • Avast Antivirus, Windows 10 has a good antivirus and firewall built-in already so you don’t need an external one. To remove an antivirus uninstalling is not enough you need to use the removal tool you can download from the antivirus website
  • MSI Nahimic, this is a program for the sound which is also known to cause crashes and freeze in-game
  • Tobii Service/Eyetracker Overlay that can cause crashes as well
  • Alienware On Screen Display another overlay that can cause crashes and errors in game
  • Nvidia Share another overlay that can cause display issues and crashes
  • Windows 10 Game Bar can cause crashes in Overwatch so remove this as well
  • Alienware Command Center may cause stability and performance issues and you also have lot’s of errors in the report involving the command center

Please help me, i have the same issue too. This is my dxdiag and MSInfor file.
