⛪ What Cathedral services would you like to see?

Hi everyone!

One of our core goals as a guild is to help create an RP hub around the Cathedral, generate RP and support people’s in-character goals and development.

We’ve started to grow a little now and as a result - we’re hoping to start offering some additional ‘services’ to your characters and I wanted to see what the appetite might be like for the following:

  • Interactive Sermons - Sermons around the city aimed at bringing followers together, sharing important messages and building stronger links in the community
  • Weddings - Offering LGBTQ+ friendly wedding-style ceremonies to help your characters affirm their bonds of commitment
  • Ordination/Initiations - For independent paladins and priests that want to develop their character. With set goals, trials and a final ceremony to mark your ascension.
  • Training Academy - a training programme for aspirating paladins/priests/anointed knights who wish to train with the Church. It would have a definitive start and end date along with tests and graduation ceremony.
  • Charity Events - Social events to help raise money for charity, soup kitchens, clinics, confessionals etc.

These would be open to independent RPers that are members of the Church - or want to engage in the Church in a more meaningful way as well as anyone who’s already in a guild, but wants to explore that side of their character a little more!

Let us know what you think - and if you have any other ideas we’d love to hear them!

I would hope this is implicit in a universe where sexual orientation isn’t at all stigmatised.

Other than that I think it’s a solid list of activities you have so far and a lovely initiative overall.

This is a nice initiative and I think you’ve a pretty good list so far! I thought about it and one thing that that comes to mind that could possibly be added is some kind of talking help or service, like many churches have. When you’ve been through tough time, you can seek out a priest or similar who’ll listen and perhaps even offer their advice. After all the world and its inhabitants has been through some quite traumatic things and while many receive help in form of soup kitchens, clothes etc. the mental side is often neglected. And perhaps a character hasn’t been even through something so traumatic, but simply would like someone to talk to. This kind of service would also bring more opportunity for more personal and calmer RP for those that may have harder time in larger events.

Now of course I’m aware that one could simply walk into the cathedral at any moment and simply talk to a priest, but it may be easier to take the initiative for it if it’s specifically stated that this kind of approach is welcomed.

Good luck with this and perhaps my vagabond will run into you guys someday!

Theological debate.

Forums from people of all faiths coming together to debate versus one another in a spirited yet friendly manner.

Zealotry is not permitted.

Or perhaps an outreach program for those that lost their paths. The older members of the Church who joined the Scarlet Flame for example and seek redemption, to ease their soul and once more rejoin the flock.

Did you have access to the Tome of the SH Vol 3 made by the SH community of the server?

I think that these are both good ideas! A place for people to come and find a friendly face to talk to about the troubles, perhaps get some reassurance or advice would be good. It’s something that we do, but not that we talk about very often.

Theological debate could be quite interesting, too. Bringing people together to debate and discuss differing viewpoints with a view to developing a greater understanding of one another. I had a very interesting discussion with a mage not long ago on the topic of the light being ‘another form of magic.’

Thanks for the suggestions.

Inb4 we have an Azerothian version of the reformation wars. Jokes aside these sound like great ideas.

Absolution of sins? We’d be stuck in that booth all night long

This does seem pretty dang cool, though.

We’ve done a few of these - People come along, spend some time with a confessor to fess up to what they did and we help them find a path towards absolution. Either by helping the Cathedral or undertaking some sort of trial to show their repentance.

But I’m glad that you like the idea of the Ordinations and Initiations for people who may wish to develop their character, but who aren’t a part of a ‘church’ guild.

I totally like the sound of this and would love to participate with my priest, despite not being in the guild.

Is there any (roughly) set time during which services would play out?

Not yet as we’re just taking a temperature check - but we’re online most nights from 8pm in or around the Cathedral so you’ll be more than welcome to come and connect with us  once we get things in place and figure out the best (and more lore friendly) way to do it I can give you a poke!

Good to see nice open initiatives going around the server.
I was going to suggest alms days to give food to the destitute then saw that charity was already there -
What about blessings for warriors’ weapons or groups of soldiers who are set to march out?

The debates would make sense under the three virtues.

Respect your debate opponent’s views. They are not your enemy.

Tenacity in your conviction of your faith or will you be swayed and perhaps become an apostate?

Compassion showing a sense of fair play and the comraderie that would bring.

A theological Olympics!

Perhaps a service for a Guild or group to bring along a Priest or Paladin on their campaigns/adventures?

Ofcourse they could arrive later and leave earlier, but its something like how the Dutch Army has these Mental Health moments when out on (extremely) long excercises or out on missions.

You know, just a moment to take it easier and relax abit and talk with your Priest(or however they’re called in other beliefs)

Other then that, the list appears pretty complete already!

I for one aim to do weekly sermons I dub “Grand Mass” but with a very unorthodox, almost extinct dogma from a guild of 10 years ago.

I always welcome religious debates and I will bring ZEAL to the table, for there is no compromise in Faith.

These are both really good ideas! We have already done a few weapon anointings and blessings and things - but I don’t think that it’s common knowledge.

I like the idea of sending members of the church to aid on campaigns to tend to the spiritual and mental health of the forces. Perhaps need to be a little bigger for that so that I have more manpower to spare. But it’s a good idea!
