Agree. You can clearly set up blockades on advertising and people just don’t care. Even if blizzard did police it harder, they’d need to do it like STUPID hard, because these individuals lose little by simply setting up a new account, you’d need to go for hardware bans to make it effective (good luck with that).

There are two other ways to look at the problem:

  1. the thing itself that prompts the adverts - boosting
  2. The demand for the thing

Blizzard can exercise control over 1), by changing their stance on boosting in general and making it so even gold boosting is a violation of ToS if they want to. Whether they’ll do it or not is another question (as is whether they have the powers or willngness to track and police it if they did)
Regarding the second, blizzard can’t do much about community desire to use boosts, except by maybe taking out FOMO stuff, but so long as gear is tied to content, boosting desire is always there. This is something that has to come from the community itself in a concerted manner, because if nobody wants to use boosts, the communities will shrivel up and die and stop advertising.
But that’s a huge ask because it would require some pretty dramatic actions such as making pariahs of people who use boosts so doing so frustrates their progress in the game, but you could argue that’s a pretty nasty step to take for people just exercising freedom in a game.

But at the end of the day, so long as boosting itself exists, the onus to advertise it is there and will always exist in some form.

Today’s selection:-

This proves that Blizzard isn’t doing enough when a listing is up for 3 days.

I honestly don’t understand why there isn’t just a gm sitting all day dealing with this stuff instantly, Like a chat mod on Twitch or something? I’m pretty sure they can afford that.

Even just checking once or twice a day and banning all ads that are up at that time would help a huge deal.

The Group Finder requires level 50+ to use. If you only get a few days of advertising out of your account it would become unprofitable pretty quickly.

Not doing anything about it also sends the message that it’s okay. So people that are on the fence about it, might be more likely to just go “oh blizzard doesn’t care about those ads being up for 3 days, so it’s okay if I do it aswell.”

When I was actively doing keys I know the mythic keystones always had 8 to 9 sellers

Indeed reporting is better than doing nothing.

TBF they could probably even hire a player on a barebones wage to do it, enough would volunteer. It’s not like they need to pay bigbucks, just a couple of people on the channel every day, rotating them so they’re on it 24/7.

But that would require blizzard to admit two things: 1) their current position against the boost spam in GF isn’t sufficient and 2) that currently the game is in such a state that there are MORE groups looking to sell content than people looking to run it legit. This isn’t a brilliant thing to own up too if all your game design has been made into commodity so soon into an expansion life cycle.

So they’ll probably just do nothing because that doesn’t require them to publically acknowledge any of it and face the players over it.

There’s been a system in some ARTS game, I think it was LoL, that allowed players who were meeting certain criteria to anonymously review reports and vote on whether or not it was a bannable offense.

A similar system should be easy to implement and insanely simple for things such as groupfinder advertisements to supervise.

That being said “insanely simple to supervise” would still require a bare minimum of effort from Blizzards side, given that at least some people would complain about getting banned.

There’s a ton of easy solution regarding this issue, it’s simply that Blizzard isn’t willing to put in any effort.

As for the topic, I’m using world quest tracker to blacklist any leaders that are advertising in the LFG tool, thus my screenshots will look a lot less impressive than other ones. (and I’m not willing to clear my blacklist, sorry)

Funnily enough, the fact that blacklisting leaders works to filter most of the spam also showcases that most of the LFG spam is repeat offenders, rather than new accounts or similar, which again showcases that Blizzard is not taking any actions against people breaking their very own ToS regarding this topic.

this is a result of elitisme

people try to make other people feel bad about their in game status. Forum is full of douchebag responses. Those people buy boosts to then make other people feel bad, since they realised it didnt fill the void they have inside

and now we got boosting ruining the game for normal people. Its always something… cheaters, boosters, both… every single even slightly competitive game got these issues because of the sh!t mentality of our consumption society today

i have no idea why people take this game so serious, its not like it will get u laid… on the contrary

This was indeed in LoL - it was called “The Tribunal” and you could review reports that other players had made and state whether or not you thought that they had broken the rules. I think the report would also be reviewed by 4 other players and the majority would decide whether or not the reported person was punished (although Riot would then decide what the punishment would be). You couldn’t see what the other users had voted for, but you would receive minor rewards at the end of the month if you had agreed with the majority for most of the decisions you’d made (which would deter people from just voting “yes” to everything or not weighing up the choice).

I’d be more than happy to do this for nothing at all aside from a confirmation that the offender has been punished. It is so disheartening to see from your screenshots that the vast majority of boost spamming is coming from a set of accounts that you’ve blacklisted as this suggests that they are either receiving no punishments at all, or a very short muting. Presumably these are the same people that I and many others report every single day!

Thanks for elaborating how it worked! I wasn’t too sure about the entire thing anymore.

Not just you. I assume most people who have ever been annoyed by the boost advertisements in the LFG tool would be very happy to contribute.

But alas, it is just a thought experiment and nothing that’s going to become a reality. What a pity.

If anyone is interested. I host CN NM ****fest on both horde and Alliance.

We don’t require anything apart from willingness to listen and learn

Circumventing the language filter is against the rules, you might want to edit that word out

There we go. But offer is still open. We thrive on helping people achieve normal and if we see potential, we involve them in our heroics

This is what happens when you have FOMO rewards or make the rewards too hard to get for an average player. The boosting will never stop as long as this system exists.

It’s not about forbidding boosting.

It’s about cleaning up the LFG tool which is supposed to be a group finder tool, not an advertisement tool.

In fact, it is against the ToS to advertise boosts in the LFG tool, which is why there’s an option to report people for advertising in it.

Boosting has always been a part of WoW and will always be one.

If they didn’t fix it by now I doubt they’ll ever fix it. This is the reality. The LFG boost spams are here to stay no matter how many people report them. So I don’t really see the point of this thread. A thread on the EU backwater forum isn’t gonna change a thing.
