🩸 The definitive expansion tier list

Precisely. That’s what I’m telling you.
I don’t settle for mediocrity.

You’re just putting it there because of the bad class design and the fact that you had to grind A LOT to restore your character.

Which is fair, by the way, but the fact that you’ve ordered them according to PvP combat integrity is precisely what I mean. You’ve managed to convince yourself that 95% of the game doesn’t matter. That’s settling for mediocrity if I’ve ever seen it.

By the way, WoD had a massive ability prune, too.

S tier Legion/TBC/MOP

A tier BFA/DF

B tier wotlk/sl

G tier WOD/CATA

That’s a lie i can remember spamming the forums so much during that time, constantly spewing negativity.

I don’t have to convince myself. It’s just that PvP is what I’ve always enjoyed, since the start. The rest has always been secondary to me.

Yes it did. It removed all disarm effects and blanket CS.
But it wasn’t a “major” pruning, it was probably a 10% pruning, whereas Legion is a solid 30%.

As you can see, I wasn’t active at all in BFA.

That’s all well and good but you know just as well as I do that PvP has a serious problem. And that problem is you’re still playing on the same maps from 18 years ago. I know more got added but just think about what you got vs what PvE got. The difference is huge! PvE got so much content they’ve had to abandon 90% of it lest the game would break from spreading too thin.

From the very first moment this game has put all serious PvP outside the world itself. Server communities never mattered. It’s always been built around random queue systems.

However good the combat might me, WoW’s PvP has never capitalised on its potential. Not even once. The closest we ever got was Ashran, but through a broken reward system that was a colossal failure.

Other players can’t even spectate you. Most arenas and battlegrounds don’t exist in the world at all, though thankfully some do. Contrast this with PvE where you can walk to the dark lair and see it in front of you, beautifully realised both inside and out.

WoW’s PvP is everything an MMO fundamentally tries to avoid. It doesn’t use the world or the community for anything but poor rewards and unfair gameplay. Even duelling has pretty much broken down. The game does nothing to foster a PvP community, nothing to give you any world of Warcraft, delivers no content, and often the combat is completely broken as well because classes aren’t designed to be fun to fight as much as they’re designed to be rotation machines.

You’re free to enjoy it. I did. But don’t tell me that Blizzard has treated you right. You know that’s not true.

Again, we’re going back to Legion.
I consider Legion to be the biggest middle finger ever done to the PvP community.

It’s a miracle that the game remains enjoyable despite their lack of care.

Although, I will say, they’ve been really good with PvP communication and decision making in Dragonflight.
They adress issues really quickly, and not the lazy way, like the Ret paladin overhaul.

Well, seeing as you’re asking I’m obviously not going to play WotLK Classic because It will have basically zero growth and a huge reason why people were angry with later expansions is because they don’t get content very often.
This more or less eliminates any point in playing any of the Classic era WoW.

WoD had brilliant classes, but nowhere near enough to do
BfA / SL had terrible classes but too much to do

Both problems that will cause sub numbers to drop, however a game that’s short but fun to play will always win out over game that’s long but you really feel it. For this reason WoD is better than SL / BfA in my opinion.

I consider Legion awful, too. But it’s not because of PvP. Or - not solely anyway.

The whole bloody place is a lorelol. Suramar is just straight up wrong. It sunk beneath the sea. Another world tree- ruins the original pentagram of Hyjal, Feralas, Grizzly Hills, Hinterlands, Duskwood.

That whole expansion has 3 accurate zones. Azsuna, The Broken Shore, and Argus. Everything else was stupid.

And you’re right shot the systems, too. 100%.

It’s Argus that I found stupid.
We attacked the Legion’s home world with 2 ships, one of which crashed immediately.

And we won.
Lmao.

You know what, that’s a fair point. We did surprise them though with a portal trick.

On the other hand, you have to keep in mind that during Legion our characters were ridiculously well kitted out. Powerful in the extreme.

So yeah, the story made no sense but I still think the world did. It looked and felt like I’d have imagined from Argus. It was too cramped though, but that’s another gameplay issue with Legion.

Kil’jaeden teleports like 15 ships right next to Dalaran, to the shock and horror of Khadgar and Velen, in an epic cinematic.
Cinematic ends.

What happens next? An action packed questline where the Legion takes down Dalaran?
Will a ship crash into Dalaran, since demons can afford to kamikaze as they eventually resurrect, unlike Azeroth’s mortals?

Nope. Nothing happens.
The ships stand above the Broken Shore and we take them down without suffering any casualty.

LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME.

I disagree with OP

Legion does not make the worst expansion with very great raids

Check BFA, since It ruined raiding, PvP and stories

The Worst expansion is BFA

  • All of the raids were awful

  • Stories were awful

  • PvP was awful

  • Grinding reputations were awful, so you could spend months grinding reps to unlock allied races

  • Heart of Azeroth introduction with grinding for couple of months

  • Ny´alotha is one of the worst raid tier of WoW and it´s not even close

  • 8.3 has introduced the worst grind of WQs that you get 70 points for 3 WQs and completing it to exalted would be done in 3 years (almost to 10.0)

The second worst expansion is Dragonflight

  • Stories became Disney expansion and by these writers

  • PvP is awful because we spend every 30 mins for solo shuffle as DPS and you will ever get 0 rating for 5 or 6 wins, and in regular (Non-rated) BGs you will still meet 400k players and gank undergeared opponents while they try to gear themselves to begin Solo shuffle or rated PvP

  • Vault of the Incarnates is still hard in LFR and normal

  • We still cannot solo BFA raids while almost every 2 expansions that the 2 expansions old raids were easily soloable in normal

  • Renown grinds is awful and so slow

  • Dungeons are boring and long

Isn’t it completely useless?

Arcane mages in wod. . . Wut the f… 20 arcane mages killed 2nd boss mythic mode in like 20 or 30 sec. Now that was a broken spec.

It’s a good read, not written in a demeaning or angry way. While i dont agree with the list i can’t argue with the points very much and everyone is entitled to an opinion, so yeah enjoyable read. I would suggest not using PvP to weigh so heavy in you arguements even if that is your main content since that was the only thing that made me think twice about reading it. I do pvp and pve but to me as long as there is a currency and a vendor im happy and i actually really enjoyed the SL upgrade system, so i believe that to be better than WoD, and is the reason i don’t pvp in DF atm.

My list would look something like this just to be part of the fun.

  1. MoP - best class balancing and class fantasy we’ve ever had and the best modern raids.

  2. WotLK - the OG expansion that brought ao much of what we love into the game and is the perfect reminder of where the game came from. This was truely made with passion.

  3. DF - I could honestly see DF here but too early to judge.

  4. WoD/Cata - both are fine but honestly this is where the list drops off a cliff for me.

  5. Legion - i dislike pretty much everything legion introduced in terms of quality of life stuff but it was fun to have artifacts while it lasted and suramar is just the greatest end game zone ever made and only rivaled by MoPs timeless isle.

  6. Tbc - while i hate tbc and the overly green theme with tons of ugly borring demons i cant put it lower than SL and BFA.

  7. SL/BFA - when you play a game for one tier and actively quit till the next expansion for the first time ever in your wow career then you know it’s bad.

The best expansion overall was BfA. BfA with current talent system would be perfect.
How do you even have time for post like this? Disgusting. Blizzard give them a brand new borrowed power to grind and WM bonus to look for.

Any WoW expansion tier list that doesn’t have MoP all the way at the bottom is a trash-tier tier list, and any WoW expansion tier list that has MoP above WoTLK or TBC is downright trolling.
