You get to play against everyone – n00bs and Gladiators alike – and aren’t pigeonholed into playing against people with a similar rating to your own.
You get to play against a wider range of different classes, specializations, and compositions, because there’s no pressure to play FotM for a competitive advantage.
If you play with someone you like, you can offer to queue with them again. This is a more friendly and natural way to form a team, as opposed to vetting players based on arbitrary requirements such as rating, specialization, or experience.
There is no risk of losing, so you have more freedom to experiment with talents and gear, and strategy and tactics.
People don’t get toxic if they lose.
You can queue alone, at your own leisure, and don’t have to commit to other people or time schedules.
You don’t need to bother with LFG.
There’s no boosting, win-trading, or otherwise rampant cheating going on.
Endless games are less common, because there’s no incentive to stall or drag a battle out.

I choose this specific topic because Skirmish Arena is not often talked about, so I thought I’d highlight a few reasons why someone might err toward it, as opposed to doing Rated Arena.
I’m not making the case that one mode is definitely better than another. It’s just some unrelated pros for one that can appear as cons for the other.
I don’t think the style of writing is antagonizing. Who am I antagonizing exactly? Perhaps it’s provocative, but I don’t see what’s bad about challenging people’s perceptions and giving them motivation to put forth their own opinions and argue a viewpoint, if they want.
And ultimately, then you’re free to ignore the thread and post in some of the many other threads on the Arena forum if you don’t fancy this one.
People get toxic less frequently?
Quite an extreme example though. There’s some anger there.
I have this thing where if you queue 2v1 or 3v2, I’ll hand the enemy a fair chance at winning by letting them fight an equal fight first. Not everybody appreciates that.
