Since everyone’s telling you that all specs are viable, I should point out that a dead rogue is also viable if the other 4 ppl can make up for him.
Most runs are far from perfect and strong, reliable classes with utility can recover from situations where others can’t.
“meta” classes tend to fit that role but ultimately you need to pick something whose gameplay you enjoy. Otherwise it doesn’t matter how good the spec is, you won’t have fun.
Being fair I haven’t said all specs are viable, just that of the three options the OP had there’s a clear favourite to me and that that specific spec is underrated. I’d also say Assa is underrated, it’s outclassed by sub but does have some cool things going for it like AoE garrotte silence and reducing the damage your tank takes significantly, you do kinda have to be night elf though to get enough openers to make it work since so much of your damage relies on being able to repeatedly reenter stealth.
Frost mage is an excellent choice don’t let anyone tell you otherwise
dps as frost is simple, the trick is to survive and you have quite a strong toolkit to do it with alter time, greater invis, double ice block, mirror, shields
on tyrannical weeks frost mage is king
also since you have a BL and a situational decurse you’re more favored to be picked over warriors that’s for sure
it is also possible for the non meta rogue to make up for the other 2 dead dps
416 outlaw
417 mm
418 DH
22 COS earlier this morning
i’ve said it few times here on the forum
people should start looking less on warcraftlogs.com and more on real numbers in their own game
because my experience is completely different.
Balance is mostly not just about numbers (which are the easiest to balance), and there’s a reason serious people look at statistics rather than individual experiences.
we could read statistics together all day
my experience ingame says otherwise.
I think they were initially referring to assassination anyway.
End of the day it’s possible for things to be underrated / underrepresented at the same time as not necessarily being the best option.
well at the moment outlaw is the ‘bottom’ spec for rogues
assass logging first single target and sub on aoe
personally i enjoy playing outlaw A LOT
and find it as a very decent middle ground between the other 2 specs
Yes, and this was in the context of Mythic+
Outlaw is still pretty damn good in keys like CoS and HoV that focus on medium sized constant AoE cleave and allow the spec to leverage its unique advantage of having multiple vanishes on a fight like Fenrir.
3 vanishes on Balakar khan in NO 22 yesterday saved the key
we were just me and the tank alive at the end.
another scenario where a non meta rogue makes up for the other dead dps ^^
Yeah, underrated and undervalued certainly alongside Assa.
Playing with one of the few strong Assa rogues really put forward the case that the spec deserves way more credit than it gets.
Ofcourse not. Its a statement intended to try and encourage a person to play the spec they enjoy. As everyone should.
Tier lists are kinda useless, as it always depends.
Tier lists for +25 keys
Tier lists for +20 keys
Tier lists for +15 keys
Those 3 are not the same… also… the higher you go it’s also about your overall comp… so yea… tier lists are good click baits on wowhead and youtube, but mostly useless, and gives the community the wrong impression.
i didn’t mean those tier lists i meant checking on average dps of every class on +20 or +15 etc. like doing our own tier list , that could definitely give an idea .
looks at my profile

Okay.
Not gonna lie, it took a while there. Frost Mages were diabolical in early Dragonflight. Really bad, frustratingly so. 30% or more behind the other classes. But they fixed it. It’s fine now.
As for next season, I should point out that some players playing literally every single spec will QQ about some limitation they have. In the upcoming patch I think mage will be fine, but there’s a problem coming with a single target talent build where you avoid using Ice Lance in many cases, which is a little boring - but I won’t expect this build to be very popular in M+.
As for tuning, Blizzard usually does some percentage adjustments in hotfixes after the patch. I wouldn’t be too worried - and even if all else fails there’s fire (with arcane being rocket science, so I would try to avoid this if possible given the number of swirlies in M+)
Which would be utterly pointless, as i pointed out… it depends…
It seems you want to look at limited and easy to read data to come to some kind of conclusion, but its not that simple.
Which is why the majority of tier lists are only good for click baits.
if monks do average 50k overall in 20 and mages can do 80 it can definitely show that it’s more possible to do more dmg with mage i don’t know what are you talking about . this doesn’t mean that one monk can’t beat every mage in the game but those datas exist for a reason
The data exists, but it means nothing, it doesnt tell you anything
I have only managed +14, on my best alts.
oh, don’t know what else i can tell you to convince you to believe the power of statictics
