Hello, i would like to raise awareness to the upcoming change to Thistle Tea in 11.0.5 and provide a few arguments why i think this would be a detrimental change for rogue gameplay.
The patch note for 11.0.5 (WoW 20th Anniversary) reads as follows:
Thistle Tea now automatically triggers when energy is reduced below 50.*
The reason for this change (in my opinion) was to reduce the button bloat that some rogue specs currently have. While it is true that currently rogues (especially subtlety) are a bit overengineered i think this change will make it even worse.
Sub rogues don’t use tea for its energy regeneration component but for its mastery component. They use it to buff their big damaging spells during shadow dance and shadow blades. Having this change go through would promote a rotation that would have us pool to energy to not risk triggering tea at a random time outside of cooldowns. This makes for unintuitive, slower and imo worst gameplay.
Assasination rogues care more for the energy component because of their talents like Sanguine Blades and Rapid Injection and also are a class that has historically pooled energy. While not as much of an issue as with sub (imo) it still takes away from the player control, when they want an extra burst of energy or if they wanna use the mastery component.
My solution for this change would simply be to add a toggle or a choice node. Whether you want this automatic activation or just to manually use it whenever you see fit.
Agreed! Either remove the mastery out of thisle tea and put it somewhere else or just remove this change. I love the intention behind, button bloat needs to be addressed and this is a good choice, but this is counterintuitve as makes sub even more difficult, now having to manage energy on toop of cooldowns and button bloat.
I doubt any dev is reading this, but if by any chance is, please either revert this or as has been suggested make it a toggle, it messes up a lot of things, and having 1 extra button to press was not the problem with the specs.
On another note, please don’t remove Shadowstep from outlaw, it’s our only flawlessly working movement ability atm.
What does it mean it’s crossed out, you don’t want to tell me that it won’t be in the game? This change looked great and now you are withdrawing from it?
small nudge into right direction. Rogue rotation has gazillion buttons already that do more or less same with a different twist.
What they should do is to remove thistle tea completely and make that up by fixing our normal energy generation. Remove SnD and make it passive or buff yellow dmg to make up the difference. Remove Shiv from PvE, bake its damage into Kingsbane and leave shiv as a PvP talent. Make Deathstalkers mark apply from “ability used from stealth”, any ability.
And burn RtB with fire and the whole theme of the pirates of the caribbean - bring back combat.
SnD is now in 11.0.5 pretty much a passive, cause our standard finishers now straight up give it for 3sec per combo point instead of increasing its duration.
Amen to the combat comment, i miss it so fkn much.
An easy way to fix energy, would be to remove energy cost on finishers.
