16:9 or 21:9 montor

Hey!
Im gonna buy a new monitor 34-43" but cannot decide which format I should use 16:9/21:9. Please give me pros and con for the different formats if you have any :slight_smile:

if not, id say 21:9.

The bigger the better in my opinion.(wider)

Everything works on 16:9 - not everything works on 21:9. You often don’t gain a lot of detail at the sides of an ultra-wide, and you may get a fisheye effect.

If you do anything except gaming, extra-wide is usually either useless or counterproductive as things end up way over to the side and requiring micromanagement of window positions. Running with 2 or 3 screens is often easier for cases where you want multiple applications visible side by side.

Just my 2p. I find that people under value the height of a monitor and over value its width. I actually prefer 16:10 when I can find it, but it’s a dying breed :frowning:

edit; I game on a 32" 16:9, placed on my desk, and it is… large enough, imho. It is already at the point where information in the corners often falls below my notice in gaming situations. For WoW in particular, I can’t see any value in that extra width because you’re as likely to worry about what is ahead/behind your character as you are about what’s to the sides. In FPS games with limited Z-axis, or flight sims, I can imagine ultra-wides being very fun, but for all the things I personally do, they’d be too wide to be useful. I favour secondary screens dedicated to Discord and youtube over a single large one.

You definitely get that effect from what i remember xD and its not bad tbh

I have a 21:9 monitor and i really like it. (Actually i would never switch back to 16:9.)
You can see more from the game’s world (it’s mostly useful in FPS games because you can see better the enemies but it’s also nice for WoW because you have more place for the addons :stuck_out_tongue:).
And it works with all new games, only the old games don’t support it, but you can fix it with windowed mode.
And the (most) movies are also better on 21:9.
