One handed weapons tend to have better damage per second stats but polearms and such have better secondary stats.
If we are talking about even itemlevel gear then two one-handers give you slightly more damage percentage compared to a two-hander. If I recall it right one handers give you more procs and more auto-attack damage, while a two-hander adds more damage to your abilities.
Keep in mind that in season 2 this may change, as one of the new special weapon drops is a two-hander, which may be strong enough to shift the balance towards using it.
It will depend if we will have proc-based one-handers from dungeons.
