Hey. I know I’m late to the party, but I’ve not been on WoW for a while and I’ve only just heard about the 20th anniversary stuff. Thing is, I don’t have the new expansion, and I was hoping to participate in the events and maybe get some of those nice T2 sets before the event expires. Is this actually possible at lvl 70, or is everything tied up to the new expansion?

You can participate even without the TWW expansion but you are stuck at lvl 70
You still will be able to gather the bronze and buy the stes, it is not too late to join
I was in the same situation, and I collected everything I wanted in three weeks or so 
If you do all the anniversary quests in Tanaris, and the Secrets questline + the crates you’ll be well on your way to the 100 tokens needed to have them drop from the anniversary related activities. After that first 100 it speeds up a lot!
The first set at 60 tokens is the most painful, the second one 40 and then every set after that is 20.

do note that the crates that you get from event quests .the ones that give gear , are for level 80 only .so you cant open them until and unless you get the expansion and a lvl 80 character .
