3 years of Deflated MMR not fun

I duno if the games dying or what but nobody wants this

They started playing around with MMR mid shadowlands. Any non incompetent dev would have realized that S2 of SL was a huge success mainly because of how inflated it was. This inflation being mainly caused by the long duration of the season. But that wasn’t the case with the wow dev team, which ended up playing around with the MMR system and causing issues every single season since.

We’re now stuck in the same cycle where season starts with no inflation for 10 weeks (and lately soloqueue MMR capped at 2.1k). Blizzard then makes a statement that “They’re carefully watching the situation” (situation they caused), when in reality the only thing they’re watching is the clock to leave, go home and get paid.
So after the 10 weeks they manually inflate a random amount of MMR they decide on (it’s random cause obviously they don’t play the game). And OF COURSE because they do this, they accidentally disable the automatic MMR inflation that should have been happening anyway. So that manual inflation ends up doing nothing…

That’s exactly why they are scared to touch mmr, because of sl s2 where you could almost reach 4k rating.

It was popular, yeah sure, but not because the game was good, well design etc… But because very low rated player could get a insane rating for free.

It’s also a major part of ranked issue in lfg cause after this a lifetime challenger or rival is now askibg for glad exp people to play when in reality this guy is still a rival player (not making fun of low rated player, just showing the reality).

So yeah they don’t want to touch mmr and leave a season when everything that require some times and bring a challenge become all of a sudden just a chill journey.

Rating in any past season is meaningless in my opinion. I guarantee you that at least 60% of unique players that got Gladiator last season on EU bought boost. Do you consider meaningful the exp of people that played Fistweaver comps or Aug/DH in DF?

If you’re a good player it will show without having to link achievements in chat.

Sounds like it could be easily solved by changing the ranked system to new names and mmr system so that 18 year old titles arent being used as xp anymore.

Or do it like league of legends and add higher tiers.

S1 was : bronze / silver / gold / plat / diamond

So being diamond was basically being R1 by %. So saying you are a diamond adc = you are god tier

Later they added emerald, master , advanced master , challenger etc. So that while you could still say you were diamond, it doesnt imply anymore that you have Highest rank xp.

To many people got Glad? so keep glad avaible and add a new title at 3k cr 4k cr and so on.

So people will have to say : Lf ´´Cool name´´ Xp , without running in the issue of having people with said ´´cool name xp´´ from a decade ago.

I bet 100% if league of legends would have capped diamond instead of adding higher tiers, it would have not over 100+ million player a month.

But its not fun that when I want rewards currently, its a lot harder to do it with friends than alone. Getting 2,1+ in Rss or Bgb is free atm but in 3s is suffering. So it promotes playing solo in a MMO

And ?
I think it would be so Poggers if that happen again, nobady cares beside Blizzard and swetlords if Glad is EZ too get

This copium has to stop.

The so-called inflation you mention was caused by the global Covid-19 lockdown and also because PvE players were forced to participate in PvP (the Badge trinket was BiS for most classes in PvE). Is it any wonder that Shadowlands Season 3 was one of the deadest seasons we’ve seen? There was an interesting post on the NA forums discussing how SL Season 2 hurt WoW PvP more than any other season. With the massive participation, it started handing out participation trophies (Glad = Rival). When S2 ended, the lockdown was over, PvE players no longer needed to play PvP, and guess what? The game died because it was absolute garbage. The only ones left enjoying the game were RMP and Ret War enjoyers. Casual players quit if they don’t get their participation Glad. I hate to say it, but there is no MMR “boogieman.” The reality is that nobody plays PvP. Blizzard even made a blue post during Dragonflight when 3v3 was completely dead, saying there was no MMR bug, just low inflation and too many brackets (shuffle). The “MMR hotfixes” Blizzard regularly applies are simply MMR injections so people won’t complain.

How about just fixing the game so arena does not feel the same as mythic+? Make cc matter again instead of just being a micro interrupt. Regular patch notes that every other game gets. Nobody asked for addition talent trees, UI, trillion modifiers, choices, buffs and debuffs. Everyone moves with the speed of light. Too many passives, nothing you press really matters it all just blends into a PvE rotation. 40 nameplates on your screen every game. Fix the garbage gameplay.

This is just a basic truth, completelely irrelevant of whether we´re talking about PvE /PvP or even which game.

The fact that someone was poggers on last season´s OP FOTM class in an organized group says zero point nothing about his skill this season, on a potentially different class, with different tuning, as and individual participant. While it increases the chance that someone might be better than average, in todays age of r1 and .1% title boosting, rating is already semi-meaningless after 3 weeks of the the season it´s earned in, much less any season therafter :beers:

Its nothing different to what any season with something like retocalypse or horrible state with dh have caused already. Every season almost has had something completely broken and unbalanced which people immediately rush to abuse and later prancing around calling themselves as 1k ratings higher achievements they wouldnt otherwise deserve unless abuse something completely broken spec as long it lasts.

If they decide add new modes to game that vacuum players from other modes then they need to rework the current rated system that is right now entirely based only on participation. Put % based rewards in each mode separately then and let people play what they want to play the most, everything becomes same anyways. If you fight only gladiators on 1.6 then its hardly not a 1.6 rating isnt it, so it shouldnt matter in first place what the number of the mode says where its played, just at what position the player is on the totem pole currently and given such rank accordingly. % based rewards in place and all this nonsense ends.

Would be the most easy way to do things.

Just have a gearing phase for a few weeks and afterwards every win at X% gives you progress to reward Y

It really is weird that in 2s Iam top 2% with 1,9 and in 3s its like 10% but both give the same reward?

So in your opinion it’s healthier for the game to give reward for free to everyone, just like in sl s2 when you were seeing litteraly every single glad do triple Dr cc, die behind pillar and not pressing button etc…

Yeah for sure it’s gonna be fun, everybody get everything with 0 effort, then all stop play cause there is nothing at all to do the entire season, sounds great.

It’s been 3 years, so think of it as intended design and that they’re happy with how it works.

Or they just dont care, I already considered that as option when I got tired waiting healer improvements for shuffle through the whole entirety of last expansion.

Just think a second, can you imagine the masses on player that try out season where people can reach Glad EZ

And swet lords can pet themself on there shoulder for reaching 3600 raiting, they wont face 2.4 player that cannot press abilitys

A ton of player mean a healthy season

Also you have way less FOTM player like in this season where people get hardstuck way too early and A quit or B reroll fotm

doesnt even has to be easy but at the moment 2,4 is 0,8% ( Na its 0,5%) of players and thats includes rank ones with multiple alts inflating the numbers.

Yes it will be more by the end of the season, but that leads to people not playing right now.

You play against the same people over and over again at 2k rating atm?! What does that say about the health of player numbers. Thats probably the main issue atm, not even the rewards. Lfg being empty and facing the same teams makes playing exhausting and makes one think : why not just play shuffel instead

Or in a other comparison : People over 2,4 in week 9 : Na : around 273 / Eu around 369

Week 13 in other expansions :

DF S2: 637 | 404 — DF S1: 574 | 571 — SL S4: 1020 | 718 (ended week 12) — SL S3: 1718 | 852 — SL S2: 1788 | 2460 — SL S1: 3706 | 4362

And that highlight the problem, Arena is a niche in Wow that is shrinking over time. The fact that it is discarded most of the expansion is not helping. Players are leaving and are not being replaced, you can see now the bottleneck:

High end players fighting 1k6-1k8 players, creating a vicious effect of blocking these 1k6/1k8 players at a specific rating and getting stomped by better players. No action from blizzard for month, create again leavers which are not replaced and make it even more toxic for the people that stay.

Because Blizzard screwed the MMr and lower it for no reason

Bring back high MMr and player float in PvP like there is free Beer

Also with twinks being this easy, people like myself who are not good in pvp but slightly better than beginner, will not be able to push, make new chars and farm beginners until the next char is hardstuck and than we make new ones and get matched with beginner again.

Iam pretty sure I stole a few hundred games of rating of people who shouldnt have been matched with me. Also time to make my third disc while the leveling event still lasts : D

Thats copium. At this point game has been trash for too long. Pve players generally wont play pvp cos mount will be probably too high for them even with inflation. Pvp players have no reason to come back cos game is bad and next season will be the same and probably also deflated or if they get their rewards they end up with no motivation anyway. Also new bracket/soloq divided players even more and if they want to occasionally que for Fun theres no Reason to play real 3s.
Pvp is finished, its time to move on.
