3D Acceleration Issue - Classic WoW

Hi everyone,

I am having the 3D acceleration issue which many seem to have with Classic WoW.

Specs: Asus X550VX / Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M / Intel HD Graphics 530 / Windows 10 x64

I’ve tried all the usual fixes.

  • Disabled overlays
  • Disabled fullscreen optimization, run in compatibility mode, run in Administrator mode
  • Clean uninstall and reinstall of GPU driver and made sure all other drivers are up to date

I notice that it seems to happen when a loading screen pops up (entering an instance, changing continent etc.) But sometimes it just happens randomly. Once the game crashes I get the 3D acceleration error popup. The fan on my laptop seems to speed up indefinitely. I also can’t re-enter the game as I just get the same pop-up.

I’m a little desperate here as I’ve had this problem for months now and tried everything. I’ve even completely reformatted/reset my PC.

If you guys have any other suggestions or need any more info from me I’d be happy to provide.

Best wishes,
AfricanNorsk

I have the same graphic card and classic won’t run on it, it runs only on my integrated intel HD 4600.

What exactly happens? What is your Nvidia driver version?

Hi there Akusö,

Just as a heads-up the original post is from a year ago, but I’ll leave the thread up since it sounds like the description matches your own issue.

For more info about this error and steps you can try, have a look at this page:

I have the latest pilot version , basically running tbc with the 950M is like a slide show(frame by frame) and when i tweak around to set it as default in the NVidia control panel i get the 3D acceleration problem .
Had this issue since the day i started playing on classic couple on months ago and been playing on the integrated card since It overheats (90°C) and is running with graphics on minimal but does the job i guess.
I also had a ticket with game masters back then but they couldn’t help out.

Looks like Nvidia driver conflict. You can test it by running Latencymon, then WoW, making it stutter on 950M and then alt-tab to Latencymon to see if it’s reporting high latency.

This can be fixed by full Nvidia driver uninstall with DDU, updating all other drivers (usually audio) if available and reinstalling Nvidia drivers.

Similar effects can be caused by some windows apps like wallpaper rotator. Overlay apps can also cause problems.

Still running the game with the intel gpu, minimum graphics, couldn’t find a solution on my own, and technical support is kinda meh, so yeah great experience.
