3rd gen dk abilities and their limitations

Would it be possible for a 3rd generation Death knight to use all three kinds of runes?
Unholy, frost and blood.
Because I do remember that during wotlk and cata, Death Knights had access to all three kinds of runes, plus death runes and the runes would be used to cast the DK abilities and some abilities even required more than one kind of rune.

Would it be possible for my 3rd gen death knight to use both blood runes and unholy runes to empower certain attacks?
Would it be possible for me, as an unholy DK IC to use frost runes, for example cover certain limbs in ice in order to protect myself?

Yes. This also applies for all death knights but Arthas and the Old Horde overglorified necromancers.

But you’ll be a jack of all trades that isn’t particularly talented in any school if you train in all three or two at once.

You’d probably leave yourself exposed since that limb would be more brittle.
