4 cores x 6 cores

So, i’m saving some money for a budget PC build aimed to play primarily World of Warcraft in the upcoming expansion of Shadowlands in 1080p and Med to High Settings. Due to my economic situation and the current hardware prices i decided i needed to make some cuts and go for a more cost-benefit build, in the processor sector i was divided between a newer generation 4-core Ryzen 3 3300x or an older generation 6-core Ryzen 5 1600AF or 2600.

So, the question is, do World of Warcraft engine make good use of large core counts in a way getting an older generation 6 core processor is worth it, or going for a higher clock but a lower 4 core processor is a better deal?

6 cores is really good pick. 4-modern cores is like minimum for WoW with no addons and no apps in the background. 6 is safe choice… however 3300X is really good if you can find it and if it has a good price (it’s very rare so the price is speculative).

Old Ryzens aren’t a good choice for WoW (unless super cheap). Look at 3500X or 3600 prices, then also check Intel i5-9400F or better among 9-th gen if you want something on a budget.

Ryzen 1600 AF is nearly exactly 2600 too

Yeah, Ryzen 5 3600 seems to be the sweet spot for gaming with 2nd Gen Ryzen. Pair that with a B450 board if you don’t mind not having PCIE4.0, even B550 only does 3.0 from the chipset.

SL seems to work fine on a 2700x, which I have currently. Even with the new zones. But that processor is £199.99 brand new.
