So I recently bought Samsung q70 T and it supports game mode as well as 4k at 60 FPS variable refresh rate or 2560 x1440 120 FPS variable refresh rate
Should I go for more resolution or more FPS while playing wow ?
Both modes run at 10 setting in raids or Epic battlegrounds
But drop to 20fps in Boralus!
Seriously though what are you running on that you can get 60fps at 4k in raids? That’s some serious hamster wheels.
Try it out and see what looks the best. Personally I think they’re both wasted on WoW though.
well i spent 6000 $ to get my new pc .so it runs all games well
i’d play 2k 120 fps
Iirc you can’t see beyond 60fps anyway so go for resolution.
This is a bad place to ask since 99% of the people who see your thread have no idea about these kinds of things. The guy above is the prime example that people here have no idea so please don’t waste your time listening to them.
I always help out in the LTT or Tomshardware forums so I will try to help.
Irrelevant of resolution, you should never ever settle for only 60 FPS. The difference between 60 and 144 FPS is insane and anyone, literally anyone of any age can tell a drastic difference in smoothness between these two. Going above 144 FPS is pointless as there are huge diminishing returns on the smoothness. Not many people at all can tell a difference between 144 and 240 FPS. The sweet spot for Hz currently is 144 or 120 in your case. The most ideal monitor currently is 4K@144Hz but if you have to choose between yours you should 100% go for the 1440p@120FPS setting.
that’s a bit of a myth. While you can not see the single frames, moving things will seem smoother.
Assuming the game can run at 120-144 FPS. Online nature of WoW plus it servers will often prevent that. Yet for high paced M+ or raid you can get more than 60 FPS on a tuned PC.
thank you .will go will go with 1440 120 fps then
I’m guessing SLI of two 2080ti’s for that then?
Not sure a single 2080ti would do it. Or two RTX Titans at the moment would get WoW to 60fps in 4K.
I say stick to 1440p and have it run at 120fps, smoother and also moreso if you have it linked to a G-Sync monitor that can adjust framerate to the game. Looks way better that way in smoothness between each frame.
Its not a competitive twitch shooter with the GCD it doesn’t really matter? If that’s a monitor and not a TV sub 4k will look fuzzy on it.
At high resolutions and framerates it comes down to personal preference. Neither will improve your gameplay as the human brain doesn’t work that way.
2080ti can get WoW to 60fps and beyond on 4k, often fps drops are to do with the cpu so having an i9 helps.
120 FPS would be what I go with,no doubt about it.
Yep mine is core i9 cpu
Big oof as new GPU line will release 17 september.
I was in your position once before. I couldn’t decide between the two so I decided not to and got myself the Acer x34p, a 3440x1440p 100Hz ultrawide. And the biggest gamechanger was, by far, the ultrawide form factor.
The ultrawide has completely transformed how I consume games. It made just about every game (that supports it) much better looking, even more so than the boost in pixel density. The aspect ratio is pretty much perfect, as I feel it fills my vision evenly in both, the horizontal and vertical direction. In wow, the extra real estate is nice for all the windows you might have open, including things like dps meters during combat so they don’t get in the way during the encounter. Since upgrading to this monitor, I often find myself fighting with my bags or even the map open without them being too distracting.
The resolution is definitely nice as well. I have no experience with 4K, but I heard it isn’t as big of a boost from 2K as 2K is from 1080p. It’s also great for watching movies.
The FPS upgrade is definitely the least noticeable of the 3. I often find myself glancing at FPS counters just to confirm I am, indeed, running at 100 fps. Sure, it’s nice, but it didn’t really meet the expectations. I haven’t experienced 144Hz monitors, but I heard the law of diminishing returns applies here so I can’t imagine I’m missing-out on too much.
If anyone reading this is curious about the performance, high resolutions are nowhere near as hardware demanding as YouTubers would have you think. I actually don’t notice any performance hit at all. Upgrading from 1080p to 2k is about as demanding as a 2x Anti-Aliasing. Upgrading to 4k is about as demanding as a 4x Anti-Aliasing but here’s the catch - you don’t need Anti-Aliasing at these resolutions at all. Standing in front of the AH in Orgrimmar, playing at 6880x2880 resolution (2.4 times the amount of pixels of 4K) with everything maxed-out and AA set to none, I’m getting 55 fps with my RTX 2080s.
Edit: TL;DR: Ultrawide > Resolution > High refresh rates
Eh. You can spend your whole life waiting for a possible upgrade.
OP’s PC will still work wonderfully on all the top games for years to come when the 4XXX series is being outdated by the 5XXX.
Not that bad. Prices are quite good.
RTX 3070 at £499 being same power as a 2080ti is probably the best bet right now for cheapest upgrade from 970, 1070 and all.
3080 if you want to spend £200 more for getting 60fps at 4K resolution. But the 3090 doing 60fps at 8k with RTX on and all. Yeah, that’s worth the £1,500.
But for cheapest, I’d recommend the 3070 if you are on 900 or 1000 series cards. But add something to PSU as well as I’m sure you’ll need something a bit more power to run these cards.
They just announced geforce 3k series and in 2 months we’ll get new gen of cpus. I think you should not buy pc now. Especially not for $6k
