4k and GPU upgrade

Hello people o/

I run wow natively at 4k @ 60hz and with v-sync on I get a nice constant 60 fps. My current GPU is a 1660 super 6gb, with most settings except textures and viewing distance, the rest are set to low. For the important parts of the game, meaning pvp of all sorts, it runs even smoother.

Now it is time for me to upgrade the GPU and basically my options are a 5060 8gb which is top bang for buck, or a 5060ti 16gb, which is still economical compared to a 5070 but 150-200 euros more.

Both will run 4k @ 60 fps … but in your opinion, is the 16gb version worth it? Not just for wow but for other future games like the GTA6 etc? And will a 5060ti 16gb be able to run wow @ 4k with max settings?

P.s. we are talking about 60fps

If paying 200 eur more doesn’t change anything in your life I’d go with ti

Yes its worth it. If anything, alot of techies are saying that 8 gb memory..especially on mid tier cards such as 5060 or 9060 is plain out trolling by Nvidia and AMD. Even for 1080p gaming, you can barely excuse a 8 gb vram.

I’ve just bought a new computer. Got the 5070ti as I had it explained to me that the 16gb was needed for 4k gaming. I have a Samsung oddesy which is a massive widescreen. Always better to future proof as much as you can imho. My last computer lasted almost 5yrs as a result.

From these options I would and am getting the 5070 ti but I have 3060 ti so anything less would be too small upgrade for the cost of brand new card.

If you upgrade 1660 to 5060 ti thats 150% upgrade but if I buy it would be just 33% upgrade for my card for the cost of €500 or 123% upgrade to 5070 ti for €800. It’s not really easy choise for me either as I dont really got good options here.

Youre thinking 4k gaming so that is your most significant factor, if you got money for 5070 ti go for that. It’s not high end card but its powerful and you can still throw settings ultra. From high end 5080 costs €1400 and 5090 €2900.

Yeah, it kind of is trolling, because newer AAA games tend to have very large textures that need to be loaded into the GPU’s memory. If you only have 8 GB GPU RAM then those textures will have to swap in and out a lot which might cause problems such as stuttering.

Diablo 4 has this problem on PC. If you try to play with the really beautiful max-quality textures on an 8 GB GPU RAM card and you ride around the world, you’ll probably notice a lot of stuttering. Turning down the texture quality to medium completely solves this. That might be fine on 1080p, but on 1440p and higher you’ll see that those medium-quality textures are quite blurry compared to the max-quality ones.

Path of Exile 2 looks just as good (maybe even better) than Diablo 4, but it runs very smoothly on my 8 GB GPU RAM. I guess the Diablo 4 devs assumed that everyone who will play with max-quality textures will have 16 GB and engineered their engine around that assumption.

Even though exceptions like PoE2 exist, I’d still recommend getting your next GPU with 16 GB, especially if you play at 4K and “need” those max-quality textures.

Buy a video card that is at least 12 gb vram or 16 gb vram .8 gb vram cards are not bang for bucks .many modern games are getting bottleneck because of 8gb vram .

So either get a amd Radeon 9060xt 16 gb vram or Nvidia 5060 ti 16 gb vram .depending on your preference of team green or team red

I have just installed a 5070ti 16gb if you need some benchmarking

I dunno - I’ve got same GPU as the OP, and WoW runs perfectly fine. Also (if current news is to be believed) Nvidia and AMD are increasing their prices of next gen of GPU’s by 150%, then even the used market will be unaffordable for a lot of people. I’m seriously looking at the Intel GPU for my next upgrade

Yea 8gb is dead on purchase now, I dont know why they even still make those its just waste of chips, already shortage from manufacturing and how data centers hoarding memory and so on. And manufacturers intentionally keeping supply on tight leash of course cause they dont want prices to drop too much.

And they are still making these 8gb cards that are complete waste of resources. Anything below 16gb will be dead on purchase now.

Thanks data centers, now is the time to buy GPU if one will buy one, I also predict they will go up like ram soon. I’ll put €800 on 5070 ti cause I’m making a new build with beefier cpu which my current gpu would bottleneck

The prices are rising drastically due to AI rubbish, better to invest now and hope that by the next time you have to upgrade the prices will have gone down.

Im still on AM4 rig from 5 years ago - might have to last another 5 years at current prices

AM4 is still fine but might want to do upgrade now before prices rise even more and then we really hate buying new parts, Im already mad I didnt order my ram end of year before it rise 150%

Hello and thank you everyone for the replies!

I can find the 5060ti 16gb for 500 euros and the 5070 12gb is 550, both MSI Ventus 2x…

The delema is becoming more intense, lol.
