4k v 1440 in wow

Morning everyone,
I currently game at 1440p and can run it fairly well.
I am due a pc upgrade next year, and thinking of trying 4k.
Is it worth the expense in your opinions? I will probaby go for 5080 and an X3d chip.
But will require a new monitor as well. Any suggestions and current experianced views with wow in 4k are appreciated.
My current pc is:
5600x
3070
32g of ram.

All i can tell you is that i prefer playing at higher refreshrates and 1440P than 4K (60).
5800X3D, 4090 FE.
I could never go back to 60.

Ofcourse it depends on the games you play, i’m not talking WoW only but also demanding AAA titles or even pathtracing.

If you play in 1440P you have more reserves, 4K is just too demanding and you will have to use DLSS performance at least, sometimes with FrameGen ontop to get playable FPS.

For WoW in 4K you wouldn’t need a 5080, you will be CPU-limited most of the time anyways, even with a 9800X3D.

I play WoW in 4K by using 7800x3d and 4090. If you play causal, you can play the game with solid 110 to 144 fps in open world. Sometimes the fps drop to ~60 in heavy raid encounters such as Bloodtwister and Queen.

My monitor is Samsung Odyssey 28" 4K 144Mhz.

I would recommend looking at ultrawide displays - 3440x1440 - which is better for immersion while still way fewer pixels than 4K.
